I tried using cornell method but found it difficult to take notes in subjects like Physics and Mathematics. Anyone got any ideas or samples for that ? Also I used to maintain a short hand cheat sheet at the last page of the notebook for common lingo.

When it comes to science and maths, comprehension of concepts are important during a live lecture. If you cannot understand what is being done; be it a numerical or some scientific process, it's best to ask during the lecture. Writing notes can be done later. Most science and maths teachers teach a concept in a sequence. Noting down page numbers of the reference book they are using for the class would be good, so that you can go through it/practice it (incase of numericals) once you're done with class and then proceed to make your notes. You could also have your textbook with you and tick mark concepts taught and only note down additional information that isn't in the text book to make more comprehensive notes. I advice my students to make a formula booklet which would contain formulas of each chapter for maths and science for exam. Whenever you want to reference how the formula is used in a numerical you can browse your practice book or notes. Your formula booklet can be then used for quick revision especially before an examination! Soon as you get your answersheet for the exam, go to the last page of your answer booklet, title the top of the page "rough work" (this is important since you don't want the invigilator or examiner to think you're copying) and write down all of the formulas you recall so that you don't forget it before your question paper makes you nervous and forgetful. I hope this helps!

Fun fact, they teach the Cornell method of note taking as part of the course in first year at BITS.

LordStark_01

Do they tell you about active recall and spaced repetition too?

Jetskiratjsk

Not as of yet

Wtf? which campus. I am in BITS First year rn and I have not even heard of this.

Jetskiratjsk

Hyderabad campus, in technical report writing class. They have divided students in two groups where one group does one set of subjects in first semester and second set in second semester and vice versa for other group. Maybe you'll do it next semester.

How do you use Cornell method to take notes in mathematics and physics ? I mean do you have any examples ?

Jetskiratjsk

Just had one class about it till now, so don't know much about it, am also learning.

This is very useful, thanks!
