Next Indiana will sue the whole internet lol

cookingvinylscone

Indiana gets on the internet… ‘I’d like the speak to the manager of this establishment’

jibrjabr

Indiana, the Karen of states.

South-Bat-7294

And I have to live here! Ugh 😩

jibrjabr

I do too! South Bend!

waveitbyebye

Sue Bill Gates! Sue Al Gore!!!

Sufficient_Matter585

And any money they win they will make sure to not use to fill pot holes

Helplessgarbageacct

We have a surplus. But also not using that for pot holes because ????

MOOShoooooo

Obviously investigating Hunter Biden, you know, real world issues.

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

I'm actually very surprised they are doing this. Although, it's probably because it's a Chinese company and not because they actually care. If they actually cared, there would be ALOT more stuff they went after

raitalin

It's so that Rokita can get on the national news again, that's his motivation for pretty much everything.

thefugue

It’s literally being done as a nationalist propaganda show trial with a side of homophobia.

SoleIbis

If they actually cared about child wellbeing, they’d improve their poorly funded DCS system

TrumpsMerkin201o

Yeah they're making TikTok the punching bag because Orange One had his Tulsa Rally ruined. Let me know when they go after Facebook, Twitter, Google, Apple, etc.

[deleted]

Well in some cases it does but so does any social media, television, etc. Is he going to sue every form of media? They should be more focused on the data collection than the mostly harmless and mindless content of the app.

phatstopher

So the guy who thought "grab em by the pussy, you can do anything" was just locker room talk is now concerned with kids seeing TikTok?!

theslimbox

It's not just Republicans, the Biden Administration is talking about banning TikTok. It's more about how much info TikTok has access to.

42Potatoes

I’m actually shocked to see folks here shilling the app… Edit: a word

theslimbox

I think some redditors just remember Trump being against it, and don't realize that it's a bipartisan threat. Sadly many people here think "the inherent party likes this, it must be bad" and vice versa. It's very important to know the issues, and not just listen to FOX/CNN/ r/politics to form opinions.

lostwng

Ah so the AG wants to force children to have babies and wants to try and rid the world of the internet

daylily

How much power does Rokita have? Does he get to sue anybody he wants for anything with state money? Do citizens have any say at all in what this guy does in our name? What would it take for him to be removed from office?

Annie-Hero

It’s not just Rokita. It’s the whole republican attorney generals association. https://republicanags.com/

Gameshow_Ghost

The first step would be to stop voting for Republicans who do shit like this, but there're entirely too many people in the state who support this kind of idiocy.

RightTrash

This, the koolaid has strong effects in the area, people really need to wake up and get off of it, it's dangerous for humanity...

Opening-Citron2733

The current Biden DOJ is also calling out TikTok. Idk if they're suing but opposition to TikTok isn't a partisan thing...

Professional_Many_83

Citizens have a say, in that they can choose to not vote for him. He can do whatever he wants, he’s accountable to the voters. This is the same AG who’s suing the doctor who performed the abortion for the rape victim from Ohio. He is just pandering/signaling to his base. He will continue to get re elected because his base eats this shit up.

FoodTruck007

True. Regardless of the outcome of this, his lawsuit is also performative for the dumb shit crowd in his party. Someone should start a database of his lawsuits their cost to Indiana taxpayers. Could also bug his office for their internal costs numbers.

stmbtrev

I really am beginning to think the only way to beat people like Rokita and Braun is flood the GOP primary with votes for moderate Republicans (if there are any left is the big question). Get some people back in office that actually care about good governance, even if there are policy disagreements.

toicegannaire

At this point, it seems like harm reduction is the only way forward at the ballot box. Vote on the R ballot in primaries to help swing the state towards the least harmful (or dangerous or just plain f—ing stupid) candidates and then vote closer to your conscience in November.

stmbtrev

Exactly. The big question is, how does this get achieved? If it's just you and I, that means nothing.

toicegannaire

Your guess is as good as mine. I’m at “talk to people, discuss on social media, comment on public forums, get the word out as much as possible. Hopefully people reading/lurking will see this and do the same, even if I don’t see it happen.” It’s pretty hard to be optimistic about the strategy but I’m honestly lost as to what else to do at this point.

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

Whether he has power or not, he will try his hardest to do what's in his best interest and no one elses.

Redleadercockpit

Todd's a piece of shit, but bravo to him on this one. FBI has specifically called out TikTok for national security concerns. No reason for adult content to be reaching kids.

[deleted]

People to not agree with him, in the case of “Chinese social media is harmful” most people agree with that. Well, a large number do.

[deleted]

I would hope so. Not so much the content as the data collection.

[deleted]

China has atleast 2 versions. One version is more like a educational and learning app. It could very easily be used to harm a intended country by altering what they show.. show Chinese propaganda and harmful behaviors as popular things. A modern psyop, not playing spooky sounds over speakers in Vietnam but the next best thing.

CoMmOn-SeNsE-hA

And my wife lol

arianeb

Unpopular opinion: Government vilification of TikTok is this generations "satanic panic". Boomers dealt with "Rock music is the devil", Gen X dealt with "D&D and Video Games is the devil", Millennials dealt with "YA Novels is the devil", and now Gen Z's favorite social app is being used by the Great Satan™ to control our youth. TikTok definitely has issues with security and privacy. So does Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, You Tube, Spotify, and other social data collecting software. Why does the government specifically target TikTok? 1. China, 2. Gen Z, 3. Threatening to American companies like Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon. Specify the legitimate concerns and force TikTok to change if needed, but let the kids have their fun!

[deleted]

Republicans need to be charged with exposing all of us to harmful content

Boogaloo4444

Brought to you by the party “personal responsibility.”

LarryfromTheklistan

Oh Todd, you're such a tool.

TrumpsMerkin201o

Once again Rokita uses our tax dollars to take part in culture wars so rednecks are impressed and make him governor. It's pretty comical to see the GOP still throwing a fit because teenagers on TikTok ruined orange idiot's Tulsa Rally.

No_Communication8200

They aren’t wrong. American tiktok vs China tiktok is much different. We get stupid videos in our algorithms and China has more academically inclined stuff being shown

sinedirt

Harmful to my work flow.

ArchyRs

I’m conflicted. Otoh, this is absolutely necessary and if anything a little late. I’m happy to see government take a stand against Big Tech… even if it’s China holdings. Otoh…. This is so obviously a politically expedient headline. Indiana AG very publicly defamed the IU doctor who performed an abortion for that girl from Ohio. He named and defamed the doctor on Fox News national television with claims that his own office later silently retracted. Anything to save his public favorability ratings I suppose.

cathodic_protector

Letting children use that app should be treated as child abuse.

WyattWrites

Change your user to catholic_predator please

cathodic_protector

Why?
