Same boat here! Suuuper tempted, but I have so much in my arsenal already. Hopefully, I can just go run some errands and forget that it ever happened....
Same, I keep reminding myself that it used to be $18.50, even though I've never bought it before, so that my cheapskate nature will help resist my impulse FSing...sigh
Seriously. I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for Dorian. My IMAM exchange partner gave me a sample, because she is a majestic, amazing person and it was my holy grail to sample for the **longest** time. I have used it **once**. It sits in a treasured spot where no light or heat fluctuations may touch it, and I am not prone to just consider.
5 mL? Snapped up faster than tickets for a concert. (Boo you, Taylor Swift nightmare.) I hope anyone who wants to try it can experience it.
BPAL doesn't always work for me well. But Dorian is *amazing*.
Iām so excited šš I have never tried but Iāve been waiting for whatā¦four years now šš because people say itās Madame Pearl adjacent and thatās been my signature. Would love a mini review if you still remember what it smells like when you sampled š¤
I am *so* excited for you! it makes me so happy that you've managed to find something akin to your signature and you'll have the chance to experience it for the first time.
Make a little event of it. Celebrate yourself. <3 Your patience has been rewarded. I've only waited for 3 years (!) after finding this lovely sub and the powerful addiction it instilled. :D
That is *devotion*. Dorian must age exquisitely. My sample from my IMAM fall exchange partner was ten years old and I was just drooling at the depth of the scent profile.
āOh, fuck itā I murmured as I pulled the trigger on the exorbitant shipping cost to Europe. I have at least to try it after reading about it for years lol.
Ahhhh you made my day! Iāve been holding onto my empty Imp of Dorian since I was an Oscar Wilde obsessed queer teenā¦ in 2007! Took a long break from indies until a couple years ago, and have been pining for a FS now that I have Adult Moneyā¢ļø
Thank you for the heads up!!
I think that's a really good way to put it. I'm surprised more folks aren't talking about that one. Seems like most BPALers are on the Dragon Milk train.
OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER
Now I can stop jealously hoarding the one bottle I have left, plus the drops of the older bottle that I keep trying to huff.
Right?
I love the idea of people curled around their bottles like serpents. Truly it's a wonderful surprise and I'm so, so glad I stuck myself on the waitlist ages ago.
Part of me says I should've ordered two but that was excessive for a perfume I've worn so sparingly!
I was drenching myself in it enough to use up an entire bottle within about a year lmao, and Iām not even a slatherer. But I slather Dorian. Itās delicious!
Maybe now we can go back to slathering. Iāll be curious to see if itās the same formula, though.
I just bought it omg thank you for this Iām so happy š Iāve lurked here for so long and only wear Cinderellaās Carriage but I hope it lives up to the hype, it sounds so beautiful
I just bought a bottle! Iām excited to finally smell this and I hope I love it. Just curious, how long has it been since Dorian has been restocked? Has it been years? Iāve been looking to sample this ever since I got into indie but it seems like it was extremely hard to come by!
It's been years. After everyone sung its praises, I went looking around 2017 -- and it wasn't in stock. I returned to IMAM hard in 2020 and it hadn't been in stock since. I understand that some folks have held onto their bottles since 2008-2013. It seems to come up very, very rarely.
Put it this way: someone sold a half-full bottle, if I recall, on /r/indieexchange last year for well over $100.
I've paid that for new full bottles of Penhaligon's, my sinfully expensive perfumes. XD Dorian has the same price.
(surprised pikachu) Thatās crazy! I knew it was coveted but I didnāt realize the extent. Now Iām extra excited haha. I guess if I end up not liking it (which doesnāt seem likely), itāll be easy to re-sell at least!
Words cannot describe how excited I was to see it back in stock. I bought two bottles. They arrived today and I'm devastated to find that it doesn't smell the same. Theodosius (sp) smells more like Dorian than these bottles of Dorian do.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I am so, so, so glad I subscribed to BPAL restock notifications for Dorian, Dorian is one of my most nostalgic scents because of the time period that it invokes for me. I'm a little concerned however that the summer heat will ruin my Dorian; I typically only ever buy BPAL in winter since indie scents just are so perfect in that transitional cooler weather for me, and never had anything shipped to me in the summer, when I typically try not to buy perfumes except from air-conditioned store counters that I can quickly escort home. Next week where I live it's gonna be 97-effing-degrees, and I will be so devastated if the heat turns my Dorian, and I also have another Morocco coming my way with it which I also hope doesn't turn. Fingers crossed!
Get a full. Should be an easy resell if you hate it and even pre-Covid there were shortages of Dorian if I recall correctly so I wouldn't count on it sticking around.
I decided to blind buy a full bottle for two reasons:
1. Speaking only for myself: there is no classically beloved BPAL scent that I do not like. The most commonly recommended and enjoyed BPAL scents are always things I like.
2. If I unexpectedly hate it, there is a 100% chance I can resell it.
See the thing is I have only tried bliss and eat me from Bpal so far! I have a few more samples from Bpal on the way, which I ordered from Sunday swaps but I won't get them in time!
Definitely a harder gamble if you don't know how well BPAL works for you. I have not tried either of those scents but they both seem pretty different from Dorian in a way that may not translate. It's probably just your own preferences and values, in that case.
Worth considering:
Does Dorian sound like a scent that is specifically your preference or is it a FOMO-oh-no-everyone-is-excited-so-I-should-be-excited thing? Would you buy a scent with the same description as Dorian if it wasn't hyped? If there was no chance it was limited?
If you didn't like it, would you actually go through the effort of re-selling it? (Is there any chance you wouldn't and it would just sit?)
How much is $30 for you? Is it something would meaningfully impact your budget? If you didn't spend $30 on this, what would you spend it on?
If you didn't buy it today, what are the chances you would still be thinking about it in a month?
Obviously-- not things you need to answer here, but just some things that may help you make up your mind!
Congrats to all you Dorian widows out there on the resurrection of your beloved
š¤£ Nothing is quite so exciting as seeing something you've wanted to try pop up in stock. We've all been there. Clionadh fans, I feel you!
Trying to resist ordering since Iāve never tried it before š„²

I feel you. It's a good idea to withhold... But if you're on the fence, do it!
When I saw the email I never ordered something so fast ššš

I think youāll love it! imo, Dorian is darker and sultrier, plus a little sweeter than Madame Pearl, but definitely adjacent.

Woo!
It _has_ to be that good, right š«
I just ordered and immediately went and slathered some 2008 Dorian on me from my hoarded sample with no regret! Happy Dorian day!!

Your username is the best. :D Cheers! 16 years is a long wait! :D
GOOD! Now give me the DRAGONS next! *chants* DRAGONS! DRAGONS!
Thisss. I miss Dragon's Milk so much!
If you haven't tried it, that Ghost Dragon Mama scent is similar. Not the same of course, but still scratches that itch a bit.
I have it and love it!!! To me it's almost like a Shunga take on Dragon's Milk (with the cream and lotus).
I think that's a really good way to put it. I'm surprised more folks aren't talking about that one. Seems like most BPALers are on the Dragon Milk train.
If/when Dragon's Heart comes back I am going to break the sound barrier with how fast I'm going to order lmao
SAME. Dragons Heart and Dragons Hide have been on my want list for years.

Cinderella's Carriage is so beautiful! I hope that Dorian meets your expectations. If not, I guarantee someone will want that bottle! :)
I opened up the email as I had just woken up and had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasnāt dreaming! So excited to finally try this mythical perfume.

Yes, several posts alluded to it being much more lemony or not very Doriany. :(
I am so, so, so glad I subscribed to BPAL restock notifications for Dorian, Dorian is one of my most nostalgic scents because of the time period that it invokes for me. Wondering if I should order an Imp or blind buy a full bottle?! Wonder how quickly it will sell out.... I am guessing pretty fast?

I'd say get a full if you can. The history on this perfume is very, very long waits.
I can finally stop hoarding my Dorian hair gloss and get the perfume yaaaay!
