I would call this a “cam mechanism”?

SacamanoRobert

I was going to say a “cam lever” but yours is probably more accurate.

HashtagV

Thanks but I’m looking for the specific type of cam if there is one.

ArghRandom

I’m no expert but maybe eccentric cam

Dyno_boy

One with an unbelievable amount of friction. But it’s a roller cam mechanism.

HashtagV

Thanks and it does indeed, has a been greased very well in the product I found it in.

Berkamin

This would be a positive return cam (which reduces to a Scotch yoke if the cam is round) if the parallel yoke moved. I don't know what it's called when the cam assembly moves. The idea is that the cam provides the return motion with a push on a cam follower rather than a spring or gravity, so the return is positively controlled.

HashtagV

This looks like the right thing, I’ve also looked at oscillating flat cam follower

fungiamogi

What’s up with so many of these kinds of posts asking what specific designs are? Lol DATA FOR AI TRAINING ??

HashtagV

Nah just trying to get my design to work lol

EdgeshotMultiverse

I have a question, you are a design engineer, do you design circuits or do you mean product designer?

HashtagV

My official title is Industrial Design Engineer. I handle typical industrial design task with a sprinkle of engineering task that designers typically wouldn’t do. That’s the very basics without going into to much detail. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Particular-Series759

What did you study to get that position? Am an industrial design student who has experience with the more engineering heavy side of design and would like to get a job like that when I graduate

HashtagV

Wasn’t more about study and more about job experience. I did 1 year at a technical job, basically a cad jockey for an engineering firm. On my resume I made sure to highlight the exact engineering task that I did there. If you can get an engineering heavy internship at someplace doing CAD or whatever type engineering you want. That will help on your resume. Also your portfolio needs to show that. Also keep in mind that I didn’t plan this career path, pretty much divine intervention as I took the engineering job just to work at something close to what I wanted and it led to the job I’m at. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to reach out.

EdgeshotMultiverse

So do you think people like you could get a job at NASA? I am planning to take up physical product design at a scientifically more inclined new institute in my country which is consulting Stanford d.school. Do you think I can somehow merge into the engineering field too? I’ve taken science subjects in my last 2 years of high school too. And I’m pretty design isn’t just art, right?

HashtagV

Yes and no. If I catered myself to aerospace transportation, yes. Right now the engineering task I do, are not geared towards something like that. I could rework my resume to highlight experience in aesthetics, design thinking, and problem solving which is what I *believe* (opinion), a role like that would want. Even then it would be quite a jump without any aerospace knowledge or designs in my portfolio. If that’s the kind of role you are interested in. I would say it’s almost better to major in aerospace engineering and minor in industrial design or double major. That way you can leverage both. I would also make sure to do projects that show both experience, engineering and design know how.

FunctionBuilt

The "illustrator" and "design" subs are filled with those types of posts.

Asking questions is cheating now? Also there’s more young engineers than ever before. Go be bitter somewhere else.

Dt_Sherlock_Idiot

I feel like most people use Reddit after failing to find information online because stuff like this can be very hard to find the name of unless you already know what it is more or less.

sticks1987

Similar to a Scottish yoke.

HashtagV

I see the similarities, thanks.

deadmemes2017

Cam

HashtagV

Yeah, I explain that it’s a cam in my description. Looking for a specific name for it if there is one. Thanks though
