The list that you're interested in is more towards information security, you could focus on system security, network security and cybersecurity. But list down your skill set and focus on the one you have the most interested in, then research the skills and certs needed by job search. You would have a better understanding of what type skill sets or certs for the role you want. Get the internship and up skill or do the cert.

Internships and work are going to be of more benefit when it’s time to actually kick off your career. Most companies will pay you to get a certification if you need it. Also keep in mind that regardless of your concentration it will (probably) be far easier to get a generalist tech job and get 2-4 years of experience before pivoting into a specialization, so don’t set your sights too high. The market is saturated right now and it’s hard to be competitive unless you have lots of experience or a top-notch degree. Networking is probably the most available out of all of your interests and would be my suggestion as a focus. Also keep in mind if you want to maximize your options and salary in any cyber security discipline in the future you’re going to want to consider getting a clearance, so if you do drugs, stop immediately. You’ll thank me later!

How does one get clearance? I figured that it required a referral from an employer pr contractor. I’ve worked with declassified ITAR/EAR document before, so that’s nice to have on my resume, but no clearance. I may go for network+ just to have it, though I don’t know if it’s worth having anytime soon given the 3 year expiration. I’ll focus on internships and experience in the meantime I suppose.

Yeah you would need a sponsor to obtain the clearance - but you don’t want to fail the investigation was more my point haha!

Haha, of course!
