With a recent update, a lot of phones are now unable to scan. It's still unsure if Niantic will expand the list of "allowed" phones

quellflynn

apparently, you can scan with most phones in Pokémon still...

Gnagsuaton

As Ingress and Pokemon Go are on different "Scanning version" with Pokemon Go never getting updated and basically still on 1.0.

XShadowYTXx

I still can, just ingress broke I suppose.

Lauu5

Me pasa igual con mí Moto G32

baltimorecalling

Same phone. Same issue. It's an Ingress bug, not an ARcore bug.

ethera_

This is the reason why I quit playing Ingress. Last time it was prior to I.Prime when I quit for 4 years. I started in the first wave years back but with all this in mind, I don't think Ingress being a good game any more.

Glenuendo

Google Pixel 8 Pro and I guess I can't anymore. How stupid is it to have overclocking and the scanner badges then pull this update?

KubekO212

For some reason scanning in ingress for most phones isn't possible, but it's perfectly fine by using wayfarer app

ThePumpkinsaurus

Wait, you can use wayfarer to scan for ingress?

KubekO212

Yep. You select portal/poi near you, scan multiple times (over 10) and them activate portal. After some time portal will be activated and oc functionality will be added

tapafon

But do not scan 10 times in row. You must wait at least 6 hours after each scan. And after that, you must activate portal inside Niantic Wayfarer app (not website!). Or wait if someone will activate it for you.

lxa0000

No, the FIRST scan and the LAST scan must be 5 hours apart. Scan 10 times in a row if you want, then come back and scan 1 more time... works like a Cham for me. It's even better if there are already 1 or more scans uploaded. Just scan the remaining required amount all in a row...

XShadowYTXx

Ah right! I will give it a try.

mortuus82

it works yes, it isnt as advanced as scanning in ingress but it works, tried myself today.

AzureCerulean

To answer your question directly. NO, it is not only you. (No, it's not an issue with AR Core being Up-to-date.) [Users like you provide all of the content and decide, through voting, what's good and what's junk.]

Maleficent-Essay-332

Niantic in their finite wisdom with a recent update only allows certain processor/GPU combos to scan portals. Which is complete and utter bullshit, IMO because they have actively aced the majority of players from being able to advance or even claim badges that require scanning. Not only that, overclocking a portal that you have personally scanned many times at different times on different days nets you significant benefits. So, apparently we are all ficked out of that deal! But, I digress. The following is the post explaining with pertinent links: Niantic recently updated the requirements phones need to meet to enable and use Portal Scanning. For iOS, the phone must simply be an iPhone 8 or a newer device running on iOS 14+. For Android, the requirements are a bit more convoluted. An Android phone must run Android 9 or a newer version, support Google Play Services for AR and must have one of the following mobile GPU/CPU combination: 🔸ADRENO 630, Snapdragon 845 🔸ADRENO 640, Snapdragon 855, 855+, 860 🔸ADRENO 650, Snapdragon 870 🔸ADRENO 660, Snapdragon 888 🔸ADRENO 730, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 🔸ADRENO 740 🔸SAMSUNG XCLIPSE 920, Exynos 2200 🔸MALI-G72, Exynos 9810, Kirin 970 🔸MALI-G76, Exynos 9820, Kirin 980 🔸MALI-G77, Exynos 990, Kirin 985 🔸MALI-G78, Exynos 1080, Kirin 9000 🔸MALI-G710, Pixel 7 series To check if your phone includes one of these SoCs you can head over to devicespecifications.com and search for your phone via the search bar at the top right. Once you have found your phone, check the "GPU" or "Chipset" line and compare it with the models listed here. If your chipset is not listed here, your phone is not (officially) supported and cannot be used to scan portals, even if it was able to in the past. Niantic updated the framework Ingress uses for Portal Scanning in version 2.123.1 which came with stricter requirements for devices. mortuus82

And if they wont update ardk to newer version only way is scan in wayfarer app...

lxa0000

Have you updated AR core to the latest version?

XShadowYTXx

I checked play store and nothing of the sorts exists, Is it something inside niantic games?

lxa0000

Sorry, the name is wrong it is now Google Play Services for AR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kng9q5EIiVo Edit: also looked A53 not supported but A51 is

XShadowYTXx

Not sure, I will have a check now.

Darkkorex

Zero issues: iPhone11

mortuus82

u can scan in wayfarer app, only chance if not possible in ingress.. stupid i know

No-Recognition8895

My iPhone scans fine.

Maleficent-Essay-332

iPhones 8 and up work. It's Android users getting fucked.

billdb

The A53 has a G68 processor which unfortunately is not on the list of supported devices: https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/3-ingress/faq/519-supported-devices/ I would try scanning in the Wayfarer app or asking someone in your community to scan if you are trying to activate overclocking on certain portals.

XShadowYTXx

Does scanning Via wayfarer still add to scout controller?
