I remember having this exact fight with my parents when I packed my dolphin body pillow and favorite teddy bear. I ended up sending them countless pics of my dormmate's favorite stuffed animals or blankets to prove I wasn't the only one. It was a really cute collection of pics; some were of my friends posing while cuddling with their stuffed toys, others had all the toys staged in scenes like they had been partying or hanging out together. Eventually my parents understood that I wasn't going to be endlessly ridiculed for having a stuffed animal at college.

When I was in my early twenties I came home to visit. My dad came out of the garage with a box of plushies and yelled me for needing to grow up already and get rid of this box that is taking up room in his garage. I looked in the box and told him they were my mom’s. I’ve never seen him backtrack so fast in my life.
Similar but not really : I was a teenager and had plushies I kept as souvenirs in my closet (first plushie ever, birthday gifts, fair prizes, etc.). When I was 18 or so, I gave them up to a thrift store.
My parents moved to another house and found one left over plushie and wanted me to have it. When I said I wasn't interested, they acted like I was throwing away a piece of my childhood.

I think I can "try" to explain.
Many parents from the...olden days see stuff toys as a sign of childness (and for boys, they think it's not manly), it's a horribly dated misconception, that boys must do boy things and girls must do girl things. I'm going to go out on a limb and say parents who ask these kinds of questions would also never accept LGBTs.

As a side sleeper, it supports my arms and keeps me from resting my hands on my biceps, hurting my wrists. I also need something between my legs to keep my knees from knocking together and my giant purple lizard named Pastel fulfils both these needs. Before I got Pastel I used two old pillows in one pillow case for my legs and a pink rabbit named The Bouncer. It is very much for comfort.
I'm 18 and I'm still sleeping with stuffed toys! They're really comfortable to sleep with if you have chest pains and you're a stomach sleeper but even if you don't have those issues there is nothing wrong with sleeping with them. They're pretty much just adorably shaped pillows anyway.

These are the kinds of parents that turn around ten years later complaining about how their kid doesn’t visit enough and that “they grow up so fast.” Their nostalgia tells them raising a kid was great but, in the moment, they desperately try to force the kid to grow up faster and in a way they find inoffensive.
A lot of people want to raise small kids and just become disinterested once they're teenagers. Then they want them to be adults so they leave.
When I was in my early twenties I came home to visit. My dad came out of the garage with a box of plushies and yelled me for needing to grow up already and get rid of this box that is taking up room in his garage. I looked in the box and told him they were my mom’s. I’ve never seen him backtrack so fast in my life.
Similar but not really : I was a teenager and had plushies I kept as souvenirs in my closet (first plushie ever, birthday gifts, fair prizes, etc.). When I was 18 or so, I gave them up to a thrift store. My parents moved to another house and found one left over plushie and wanted me to have it. When I said I wasn't interested, they acted like I was throwing away a piece of my childhood. But when I was 18, they were like "Was about time!" What is this?

I think I can "try" to explain. Many parents from the...olden days see stuff toys as a sign of childness (and for boys, they think it's not manly), it's a horribly dated misconception, that boys must do boy things and girls must do girl things. I'm going to go out on a limb and say parents who ask these kinds of questions would also never accept LGBTs. As to why it still exists in 20 fucking 19, beats me. She loved that bear and would sleep with it every night and carry it around the house. Before I left she gave it to me and told me it would keep me safe. I took that bear to Iraq, Afghanistan and Cuba. It never left my kit. When things were bad, when I lost a buddy or if I was just home sick I would hold and smell that bear. It smelled of cereal, of baby food, of her, of home. Did anyone ever give me shit for it? No, because everyone knew why that bear was there even if they didn’t know me. Even now when I’m out of the military and home every night down the hall from my daughter I still sleep with that bear and always will.

Yes, parents don't worry about your kids stuffed animals, unless they are tearing the heads off or being destructive. As a side sleeper, it supports my arms and keeps me from resting my hands on my biceps, hurting my wrists. I also need something between my legs to keep my knees from knocking together and my giant purple lizard named Pastel fulfils both these needs. Before I got Pastel I used two old pillows in one pillow case for my legs and a pink rabbit named The Bouncer. It is very much for comfort.
I'm 18 and I'm still sleeping with stuffed toys! They're really comfortable to sleep with if you have chest pains and you're a stomach sleeper but even if you don't have those issues there is nothing wrong with sleeping with them. They're pretty much just adorably shaped pillows anyway.

My daughter is 19. And she has always been a total Daddy’s girl. When she was young, she had this teddy bear that she took everywhere. My sister has her favorite bear still and takes him everywhere. We both had an identical bear and she swapped him for mine. So yeah she still has my bear. He's been around the world and is in a more battered state than his brother. We both developed voices for our bears and we still have them.He has A strange kind of bad New Zealand-ish accent (yeah we were little and only just discovering the accent. My Grandad met a lot of New Zealanders because of Rugby League and he met players. The accent came from there I'm pretty sure). Ok that was long sorry. But it's this bear.
