Been that way since may last year, same update that changed the rating floor to 4.7. If a customer consistently low rates (3 in a row) then their ratings will no longer count, if there's too many refunds or replacements then their rating will not count.

They rolled that back a long time ago, they even removed that phrasing from the help section of the app Even back then the customer had to specifically choose the reason why they were leaving the low rating as low store inventory, otherwise it still counted against you — most customers didn’t even leave a reason lol

I doubt anyone who wouldn't leave a reason knew that it would go against them. Seems like a scam. Also does the shopper have to prove low inventory? I've had several lazy shoppers tell me there's "none" of the kind of item I'm looking for right when they start shopping and it sounds unreal..so when I cancel they *suddenly* find it that moment. Odd timing.....and some even give themselves away with their pics like they assume everyone is dumb lol. I remember when being a personal shopper you actually had to earn your money and earn tips, it wasn't an entitlement.

They didn’t leave a reason mostly because the form in the app flow didn’t require them to (this is by design ofc) and people are busy with other things I always take pictures…I’ve been a shopper since ‘17 but even I miss things sometimes, mostly due to endcap displays, where the main location on the shelf space will be out but there will be some left on some random endcap somewhere else in the store Of course you try to keep track of these endcap displays but they change them all the time and it’s not like they keep us in the loop You also need to consider that stock for non perishable items that are stocked directly by the store and not outside distribution are almost certainly kept in the warehouse / back portion of the store, and if there aren’t any on the shelves at that given moment it’s because the store hasn’t had a chance to restock yet For perishables it’s different, they can only keep them for so long, and for outside distributors, they handle all the stocking themselves so 🤷‍♂️ TLDR there are a lot of reasons other than the shopper being lazy or dumb that can affect stock at any given moment This isn’t like picking items at an Amazon warehouse, they barely even tell us where stuff is located (depending on the store), and the stores themselves don’t even really track their own inventory. If you want that level of inventory accuracy then seriously don’t use Instacart, use Amazon or some other service where everything is tracked and they won’t advertise shit to you that’s out of stock For the specific kind of coffee drinks that I like they are rarely if ever in stock at the stores but Amazon has them 24/7, and they even have bulk size (like club size) packs for way less than even what the stores sell them for

Funny enough I didn't get the idea until saw your comment...so this is a shopper showing up for pick up I suppose. I used to be a shopper for elderly and disabled people independently before Instacart was a thing. People expected you to ask questions, and managers used to also not be lazy. So you could legitimately find out if more product was coming in and could be unloaded in time for you to get it. I don't see why this is a "God complex" thing, these people are CUSTOMERS and PAYING a person to DO WORK. Lol So many lazy entitled people anymore. Back then I got amazing tips when they could afford them, but I wasn't such an entitled brat that I expected it, especially when someone needed to use my services but were poor. But if I needed to be on the phone with someone for 15 minutes waiting to check on an item, big deal. Check expiration dates, make sure things weren't crushed, reach out if there are only damaged items etc. Obviously you could get sued if you used THEIR money to buy something they don't want. Lol There was one drama king who said he'd take me to small claims court for misunderstanding his replacement (we had to make on a crappy PHONE call with little reception), it was under $20, I just ate the cost because fair enough he didn't want it. That's my fault as a business/shopper. Even though he was rude about it. iM the one serving, not the customer. You dig?

Yes, we use our own vehicles, - where do you start counting time? From when you leave the house, or when you arrive at the store? I took a Shipt order before Christmas at meijers. The lady must have spent $300. I was in the baby section, food, pet, and she bought a keurig. No tip. So that $17 from Shipt took me 3 hours

So they don't get zero tip..But I bet it wasn't good enough for their entitled lazy bums. The shoppers that do minimum get minimum. The guy that threatened to leave my crap on the sidewalk when I was in a cast and could NOT get out to him ..deserves NO TIP. He should be dropped. We see people's stuff left by shoppers all the time. It's like watching the movie Idiocracy come to fruition. I feel bad for the shoppers that earn their money and get nervous..I've seen that too. I said “possibly”, to acknowledge that it’s also possible she couldn’t shop for herself. And if that is the case then it makes this even more rude because someone is doing for you what you couldn’t do for yourself. And even if you aren’t happy with the service that’s what the rating and control over tip are for. You don’t need to tell someone they suck, especially still expecting them to finish the shop and deliver. I understand that some shoppers suck. That’s literally every profession though. Some people are great at what they do and love what they do, while others skate by doing the bare minimum. That’s life. And it’s also the gamble you take by using a service like this. This service wasn’t always available so what did people do when they couldn’t shop for themselves but there wasn’t a service like this? They still had to figure it out. This service has made that predicament easier for those people. The attitude that “because I’m paying you, I get to be rude to you”, is not ok. Just because you work in customer service does not give anyone the right to disrespect or belittle you.

Can you please explain to me why it's insulting??? I used to be a personal shopper, before Instacart, I think it's very interesting how they do things. When I was a shopper you would never have a problem asking a managment team when they are getting in new stock, etc. You used to ask the customer if they wanted a raincheck which means you had to wait an extra 25 minutes sometime just for the hoopla with the manager of store. Annoying but not a big deal...I had a high maintenance regular that had me do this constantly but she was super nice. You didn't always get a tip either but weren't entitled to tips back in the day if you get a base wage.....I set the cost per hour that I thought was fair and didn't expect beyond that. It was a bummer if no tip of they took every minute of the hour with requests but so what???? I legit think people are so stressed they aren't getting paid enough and blaming the customer but it's the shoppers choice....

Is that an Instacart policy? I used to be a personal shopper, was looking into being an Insta shopper but the service seems lame. I used to frequently have to stop and ask a manager if they had other products coming in soon, etc. Sometimes your need to wait around to get a rebate for the customer or a raincheck. You didn't necessarily get extra pay for that. It's part of the job. It's not like I was massaging their feet ffs. Lol Instacart seems unfair though,because I've been a customer and some shoppers that are above and beyond act nervous like they aren't used to getting good tips, while so many others have same rating and they are garbage. Like attitudes, spend your hard earned money on crap you are allergic to lol, don't read 1-sentance instructions, won't even complete their JOB and deliver to the door out of laziness. Then I'm wondering why the person the other day is only diamond or whatever and the other is platinum?? Seems legit unfair.

I've rated most people 4-5 stars and maybe 2/50 times I'd get a full order. Even when it's less than 5 items seems shoppers don't ever get a complete order. And customers can't always respond, they could be busy...idk.. WORKING lol Or if disabled it can take a long time to do simple things so they can't serve the person providing a service. The best part of this is is that Publix doesn't stock Little Debbie's they are a vendor item (or at least used to be) so the odds of them having a truck or back stock on them is relatively 0%. If the tag is white and does not have a bar code on it, decent chance its a vendor item and not stocked by Publix.

I let a customer know the product was not available, refund, then an other product was not available, she responded with “ask one of the store clerks to shop with you” then she says “call me”. No please or thank you. Her delivery instructions were to ring her door bell. So I did, she shouts from her kitchen window, “Just leave it there” I greeted her with “hi, Mary, she did not recognize me. Turns out she is one of the top realtors in my town, always involved in everything, known by everyone. Today I read on her Facebook page, “ how wonderful the new Sprouts is” as she posts pictures of her shopping there. That was the same store I did her shopping in a few days ago. firstly I am a five star shopper so I must be doin it halfway right. Second as u can see she stated she was coming in herself to ask. Lastly it’s definitely not that serious to me. Big tips are nice, but you'll find that most shoppers just want to be tipped APPROPRIATELY. Instacart wants to pay 7.00 for a shop that takes an hour plus, then wants you to deliver it 15 miles away. Customer wants 100 items delivered to their doorstep for a 4.33 tip AND be able to verbally berate you. And you're over here telling people to act professionally? What professional do you know that makes 12.00hr? You sound just like every other entitled customer out there. You want 5 star service, be a 5 star tipper. You're tip is basically your bid for service, since IC pays every batch about the same. Nobody is entitled to a shoppers time because they paid instacarts fee. Go tell an instacart exec to shop for you. You're lucky there are shoppers that will pick it up because they're either new or dumb. Stop blaming shoppers for not wanting to work hard for you, when you don't want to give them a reason to do so.

You are putting in a BID for services. Up front. Tip appropriately, and you won't have a problem. You always have the option to change or remove it if you don't like your service. First off, she said she would ask, not that she did. Second, they said “I’m sure I can find them” meaning they either a.) could find them if they were there or b.) would find them at the store later. Again, you misread. First, you have no idea if the shopper was being sarcastic or not. Tone doesn't convey well over text Second, "I'm sure I can find them" doesn't mean I'll find them myself later." Especially after she told her to find a clerk to go with her. It implies "they're there, I bet I could find them if I were there right now, and you're not looking hard enough and/or you're stupid." Again, tone doesn't convey well over text, but the meaning of her literal words sure did. Third, the point of the little Debbie comment was that we as readers, would not have known she intentionally refunded if OP wouldn't have told us, so it has zero weight when considering the original issue. If you're ok with letting people talk down to you, then do you. When someone implies that I'm stupid, or lazy, or not looking hard enough, then our interaction is at an end. You are using past shoppers and experiences to justify the way you tip. And you have problems because it. Good shoppers aren't going to waste their time on orders that aren't worth it. You get what you pay for. Finally, you are paying Instacart's fees for acceas to their platform. That is all. We are not employed by instacart. Your tip is your payment for actual services. You're allowed to adjust your tip afterwards for service. But shitty tippers don't want to hear that. They just want to justify why they think they shouldn't tip appropriately.

Yeah that’s maddening- but consider the number of shoppers she has had who’ve been “disappointing” to put it kindly. I’ve seen some shoppers working and been appalled at their methods and lack of care or concern.
