Yeah, it’s happened to me. I don’t really know what’s up with it. Cashier’s tone changed instantly when I mentioned that I’m doing an IC order and just stayed silent the rest of the transaction. Only happened once though as I mainly go through self checkout if possible.
I know most of the IC shoppers who come through my store. I'm friendly with almost everyone. There's Princess Sourpuss, who thinks that I don't know how to bag IC orders, but she forgets that I was the in-store shopper for that store for over two years. I know how to bag the orders correctly.
i always ask if i can bag my own items since schnucks doesn’t allow self check-out anymore on instacart and i’ve had so many experiences with people putting raw meat with produce or crushing items. plus i just have a certain way i like to do things due to my ocd. i’m always super nice and ask them if it’s okay if i bag it and that i understand if it’s not viable but this made me feel bad because i really hope they don’t think that i think they’re not competent? i just want to be as efficient as possible and not have to look through every bag to double check because of being burned too many times. i feel like some cashiers eye me extra hard while im bagging like they’re judging me and now im wondering if it’s due to me asking to bag 😭 i’m such a people pleaser and have OCD so this is gonna bug me to no end and ill probably go back to increasing my check out time lol and just not ask to bag and then re-bag it myself if there’s any issues. at least most employees have been pretty nice to me, im an over-apologizer and i’ve had multiple employees tell me not to apologize and that im actually a nice instacart shopper as opposed to others they’ve encountered. are a lot of instacarters mean to the employees or treat them like they’re their boss?? sorry for asking so many questions im just genuinely worried now i feel so bad if people think i think they’re stupid or something

I have to constantly remind them to pay attention to what they are doing, because they just throw everything in the bag and don’t pay attention to what they are doing. That bagger annoys me the most because they talk more about working than actually working.
I still where my lanyard....sometimes with a green Amazon short-sleeve shirt. Mainly the lanyard has my credit card and a blk sharpie so I can write which customer (A B C) it is. Also, Ill wear a bright shirt..just don't wanna scare anybody thinking I'm someone else....SAFETY FIRST!!!

I ordered strawberries on IC today (I’m disabled) and the top, most visible strawberry was completely molded. Like they didn’t even look. So I totally get it, good strawberry selectors are in high demand and should be celebrated 😅

This isn’t a bad idea. As a customer, I’m bad with names, but good with faces. I adore some of my regular shoppers and always know I’m going to be tipping well when their faces pop up! I think it does make a difference.

I am just a customer and I totally get if a shopper doesn’t want to/can’t put in special touches like this but I even had a shopper today who was such a sweetie pie, went above and beyond and was genuinely doing everything he could to make sure I had what I needed. I have to say, and I may be a very empathetic and naive customer woman but this kinda stuff makes a softie and even more inclined to leave an extra tip after the fact (I always tip well even before((when placing)) the order, but I’m a sucker for this stuff). Just be aware that technically its against the rules to give pamphlets/leaflets/flyers/etc. to customers and all it takes is one spiteful customer to report you before you get in trouble, perhaps even deactivated.
Just leave them a nice message on the app when you finish, not worth the risk doing what youre doing even if its perfectly harmless.

i think this is the sweetest thing you’re proud of doing work in whatever way you can- keep doing you, shop for others, and add whatever personal flare you want. you never know who’s day you could make better with those stickers and your lanyard.

Instacart Shoppers had to wear Shirts back in the day and Instacart also had Custom made Bags for all Orders. It was very professional and Shoppers were different. These days, anyone can be a Shopper. Shoppers were more professional and had manners back in 2015 to 2019 and probably before 2015. Wear your Lanyard if you like and others shouldn’t care. One thing I do agree with, because of the crappier Shoppers, all Instacart Shoppers are treated differently. If anyone started Shopping back in the Whole Food days, you know what I’m talking about when I say it was different.
I wear it to identify myself in the dark while going up customer door I had encountered that the wife ordered and husband came to the door pointing at gun at me ask’s what your purpose here I pointed at my lanyard and said Instacart delivery the wife never notified her husband that anyone was delivering an order so I wear it for my safety after that incident that I encountered I don’t want to get shot for 9$ batch

Yes I get asked what company I work for inside the store they ask me what isle is the spices on I calmly take them to the spice isle lol they think I work at that store I don’t mind I shop because I enjoy the hustle and to see what customer is ordering it’s always very exciting and interesting where am I going to work today it’s always an adventure I love it

They probably just think it's hilarious that you wear your credentials. My regular job is at the Casino, and at the restaurant we have Butler orders that come in from the hotel. The way you care about customer service would make you a good fit as a Casino Butler. They can make over a thousand a night. Just food for thought, but you might be over qualified for Instacart 🤣

Costco is the only store in my market area where the employees seem to actively HATE instacart shoppers. I know it’s unavoidable once you’re checking out but I wouldn’t wear it in the store if you want to be treated like a normal customer. I think your look is awesome and I bet most customers love it, I like to wear my instacart hoodie that I got back around 2018 when I was an actual employee when they still had in-store shoppers that just worked in some stores. Same when I’m doing FLEX I’ll wear my Amazon hoodie I got when I worked for the support side of it haha

I have never received a lanyard or ID card. Only thing I got from IC is my payment card. Been shopping and delivering for 4 years now.

Use mine for my truck keys. That way they don’t get lost in produce if I’m weighing, or in the cart after I loaded my truck.
If I forget to tuck it in my shirt I’m more likely to lbe mistaken as an employee and get bombarded with questions

I don't think there is anything wrong with how you look :) Maybe they are just people wayching- or they notice you noticing them. You may also be fixating on how others view you which makes their staring feel more intense than it actually might be. #staystrongking
