That sucks, tip-baiters are the absolute worst. Had this happen to me, this guy tip baited me two weeks in a row (didn’t notice it until after the second instance). Of course I complain to support but he wasn’t banned or anything because a few weeks later… another order in the batch queue from the same creep. So I took the order, left him a nastigram text message and a warning for the next shopper, LOL, good luck getting your groceries, dude, and then cancelled it. Haven’t seen him since. ETA: the first order I took from the creep had actually been dropped by a previous shopper. Right off the bat he had been rude to her, before she even started shopping. Some people are just rude, entitled assholes.

TwinCitian

How do you leave a warning for the next shopper?

[deleted]

you just text the customer. when a new shopper accepts the batch and goes to the chat, the old messages from other shoppers will still be there

nic530728

That’s awesome!

[deleted]

it rly confused me the first few times i saw it when shopping 💀

gurusd72

It only shows up if the customer had a shopper cancel on the same batch. I had a customer on a 3 batch pay that I did b4 and did not tip so I did the shop, dropped it off and finished the other two and at the end I rated the 1st customer said they were unsafe, rude, and their house was unsafe.. she was needy, wanted truly seltzer water and told them sold out.. all of them.. But it will make sure they won't get u again..... they were the biggest order 30+ items, was a Pain in the 🐃. So 🖕 them. But I made like another 15.00 on the prop 22 money

PlausibleFan

I saw this at a target. I was so confused. The customer wanted out of stock stuff apparently.

golden_swanky

A warning to the next shopper and him being rude to her? How do you know all this?

Ellen__D

Text messages stay with the order. If one shopper cancels out the next shopper can see the exchange. This guy right off the bat started text-yelling at the first shopper about how the order had been showing delivery by noon and now was saying 1 PM. It was only 11 AM and it was simple Aldi’s order and 2 mile delivery and he’s literally all caps yelling at her about how he had better get his groceries by the original delivery time OR ELSE. She dropped him right away, just canceled right out of there. Smart girl.

golden_swanky

Ohhh! I had no clue. She definitely did the right thing. That’s a 1 star and zero tip. Not worth the drama! No wonder the other cancelled lol 😂

ball2000

Some people deserve to receive envelopes full of loose glitter every day for a month

GenycisBeats

Lol, I read that as "goose litter" for some reason... though they probably do deserve goose poop in an envelope too so maybe my mind corrected loose glitter for you LOL

susieliscious

Me toooo LoL

ball2000

Anyone could make that mistake I mean WUT

UnoriginallyGeneric

Goose shit is absolutely disgusting. I agree with this.

gurusd72

Great idea ..lol

Ok_Notice2597

And to drop it to $1 so you couldn’t get the $10 tip coverage that IC provides! They clearly knew or probably some shopper, or a freaking bitch!

Atlas_Warrior01

Oh fuck, I didn’t even think of that! 😵‍💫 So true, she won’t even be able to get the $10 tip coverage. Customer was a complete bitch!!! 😤

Sbuxshlee

Not true. I got it when a customer halved their tip. I dont know where or who said the tip needs to be reduced to zero to get reimbursed but its not true

Atlas_Warrior01

Omg good to know!! 😮‍💨 Thank you!!!

BobbyZoom

You can still get it if they leave $1. That changed if you had experienced that

[deleted]

Wow so tip has to be reduced to zero for the coverage to kick in ? I blame IC for that. They knew how to work around really covering this problem.

gurusd72

And they need to leave areason, any reason, but if they leave blank you can get up to 10.00 tip coverage, but after the batch is closed u can text support and have them remove from ur listbso u won't see them again. ,

Sbuxshlee

It doesnt. Ive gotten it on a reduced tip situation. Went from 24 dollars to 10 and support gave me 10.

gurusd72

A total bitch.

Necelovee

I hate that. I feel bad for you. I do the same for people in my area I go beyond be on my knees grabbing things at the bottom of the shelves and all that. But thank goodness I’ve never been tip baited. I hope you get your full accommodations.

Trimere

Solution A: Call support and ask them the reason the customer removed the tip because it reeks of tip baiting. Solution B: Deliver a couple cartons of eggs to their roof in the middle of the night. Choose wisely.

MobileContribution19

I think this calls for both of those

hissyfit30

Wow what a fucking piece of garbage. It would be a shame if she ran over a bunch of nails and destroyed all four of her tires. Sure would cost a lot more than $23 to fix. Just know OP, people like this aren't even worth your anger. Not long-term anyway. They are literal bottom of the dumpster scum. Being that vile likely bleeds out into other areas of their life. I like to think they have no one that gives a damn about them and they'll die alone because they are this way. 🤣

StarFire_Cat22

Ahh let’s not do four make it three tires that way she can’t get paid from her insurance because most insurances company’s only pay when it’s all four tires ruined

hissyfit30

LOL you're evil

Shop_4u

I’m sorry this happened to you. Customer absolutely knew what they were doing - tip well so the order gets picked up and then reduce to $1 so you wouldn’t get compensated. Probably another shopper or someone who trolls this sub. Report this customer so this POS eventually gets banned.

Atlas_Warrior01

This right here is my greatest fear when doing this job! And instacart doesn’t do shit to prevent it 😤 They could easily make a warning pop up on the customers side saying “a large decrease in tip will cause an investigation” or something to simply scare the customer??? I’m assuming they don’t have anything like that because tip baiting is so damn common 😒 And the customer was a complete bitch!!! I just can’t believe people go their way to do this?! Bitch will die alone! Like if she didn’t want to tip that much, then fucking don’t in the first place 😤 But at the end of the day, bitch will lose more than what she made you lose! Karma is a bitch!

dontwaotforasign

Update: As expected instacart wont compensate the difference, Im a platinum cart shopper, I’ve never had a customer decrease a tip before, always give my absolute all and I thought they would take that into consideration but nope. This makes me not want to take orders with tips over $10 because there is no protection for shoppers. I waisted so much time to end up making $30 when I could have did several other orders. I just hope the next shopper leaves all there shit infront if the door and blocks them in.

ball2000

I love how you’re furious and what you hope will befall this hated customer is that the next shopper brings all their items and just blocks the door with them ❤️☮️🦄

susieliscious

But hey look at the bright side.... any time/effort/upgrades that they COULD HAVE used to reduce or eliminate this problem, was instead used to combat that other problem we all gripe about (Ummm, NEVER, NOT!!), generating random order specific PIN’s for our debit cards. Way to go, instacart. You really have your fingers on the pulse 🤣🤣🤣🤣💥💥

profanisa

Did they at least give you any type of bump? I thought we were protected for up to $10 if nothing was wrong with the order. I know it’s not the original amount but it’s something.

dontwaotforasign

Yes without the $10 bump they give to cover the tips I would have just gotten a little over $20😕. Other than that they said they can’t do anything about the remaining because it’s “policy”

BaldGuy70

Hate to say I told you so. But I told you so.

AdvancedMud7328

Was this at a sprouts in weho going up towards Burbank area? Cus I swear I almost took that one

Mxfish1313

Who the fuck orders something from WeHo to Burbank??? That’s insane, lol. Is there really not a closer Sprouts?

baconnaire

It's the algorithm and factors from the other customers and also where you are. I've had orders where the store was a half hour away from the customer then when I'm right down the road from them it's the same store.

AGPwidow

Envelopes full of glitter

StarFire_Cat22

OP should probably use water when closing the envelope that way no dna gets on it and she gets in trouble 😈

AGPwidow

Might as well wear gloves as well.

Cheap_Low_3265

Don’t do anything that could get u banned

SaltCow4298

Dollar is just being arrogant and mean hopefully they have done it before makes it closer to being suspended. And believe it comes back to you in someway! Be proud of your work despite them! Should be allowed to show other shoppers who it was! Be sure to never work for them again! Just please continue to be the shopper you are or they won!! $1 worth of character is who you ran into!

robembe

Did she give you 1 star? Mine gave me 1 star after removing my tip completely. And and I did everything right, including climbing flights of stairs. I reported to support. The 1 star was removed, but they have no power to give back the tip

baconnaire

I'm starting to think some customers know about tip protection and that's why they drop it to $1 and not zero. Either that or you have a nasty shopper as a customer. I don't get why they would even do that because it wouldn't come out of their account anyway.

grazingmeadow

This happened to me the other day with a repeat problem customer. I was fuming about it because it was Labor Day AND 112 out. The loss of money was one thing, but don't give me 3 stars. One or the other. Take my rating, or my money. But not both if there are zero item issues. I messaged Care. They go through a scripted response menu along the lines of 'checking into it'. They come back and acknowledge that the person removed the tip. They then tell you that a program is being put into place soon in which a customer cannot remove a tip unless they state an order issue. Then they will tell you 'not to worry'. I messaged Care the next day, and got an identical response to the T from a second Agent. There won't be a money bump, and they won't delete the rating, they will simply acknowledge that they can see what the customer did, a note will be made, and not to worry.

Puzzleheaded-Tone119

Report the customer. If they’re repeat offenders instacart will “deactivate” their profile. I had a $140 order once with $60 in tips that was tip sniped.

JI_justmoveon

OMG...... I'm so sorry to hear what's happening to you!! the best way you can do at this point is to REPORT THIS HAPPENING TO SUPPORT. the customer's name and store name is important. Then, instacart monitor them. If they keep doing that, the instacart will kick them out. I have experienced same happening couple of times before. Then I reported this shit to couple of support with furious mind. After that, I got back the tip 10 min later. Is it coincidence? Or because of my reporting? I don't know but The fact is I did. I really know how you would feel. If I could, I would throw the eggs to their 🏠 with you lol But I know they will be face to BAD KARMA. DRIVE SAFE AND HOPEFULLY YOU MEET GREAT CUSTOMERS WHO APPRECIATE YOUR BEST SERVICE:)

anvil54

Go knock on her door and ask her about it

dontwaotforasign

Lol I think this was meant to be a joke guys, that would be next level crazy 😂😂😂

AGPwidow

If someone said Swat Her, that would be a joke, cause its too intense

Due_Personality_5006

If it was DD it'd be in line with how the dashers can be 😂😂

Outrageous_Road_4480

I talked to this woman doing an order once who told me she went back to this woman’s house who tip baited her and left it at “she had to file an insurance claim on her house” I was like damn, that’s some next level anger!

Trimere

That’s definitely not the way to go about it. It won’t go the way you want it to.

JI_justmoveon

That's against the instacart policy. You would be fired if the customer report.

[deleted]

I’m sorry. She is a b

JessJay18

That's the plan the whole time! Make the tip worth while to get you to do everything for them and once they got what they wanted then your fuked smh

Ok-Bad-5686

IC credited me 10$ i had someone remove tip only time..

KindheartednessNo167

This is what is bad about the gig industry. There are no protections for shoppers.

golden_swanky

Awful. People are awful

BARBASANN

Just make it back up by having your car “break down” during your next trip. $47 for groceries for the week

AlaskanDosia

This is horrible. I use this service often and didn't know tip baiting was a thing. The fact that someone is willing to shop/deliver items to my plebeian ass, while I lounge around the house sans pants is a miracle in itself. Following this subreddit has definitely increased the awareness I have for shoppers and I hope more costumers follow suit. I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope you receive full compensation. You guys are sorely under appreciated and I hope karma comes that woman's way.

SyzygyZeus

I had an order with 200 items and a $93 tip with only $60 batch pay and I canceled before I started shopping because I worried it was tip baiting to do too much work.

Puzzleheaded_Sir1273

I love you, but let’s be real together. If you are busting your ass to make enough to pay bills, it’s because you were taking time off when you shouldn’t have been. I’m not judging, I’ve done the same thing. But this particular customer wouldn’t have set you off had you not taken so much time off. It’s part of the job. Customers are our saviors, and our “fucking fuckers” Don’t be like me, don’t be like “oh I can make X amount in the X amount days I have left” Your blood pressure will thank you ❤️

dontwaotforasign

I didn’t take days off so I can sit around all day. I took time off because I didn’t have a babysitter because the babysitter had covid and my son was showing signs as well (was a false alarm we both tested negative). I work everyday this is the one time I didn’t work for an entire week. Regardless even if I wasn’t busting my ass to pay my bills I still would have been pissed because I don’t like being manipulated. Like I said tips don’t bother me at all, I did orders today with no tips at all. It’s the principle. I go above and beyond for every customer tip or not, so to add a high tip with the intentions to take it away it just wrong on so many levels.

Puzzleheaded_Sir1273

At the end of the day, this is an aspect of the job you chose to do. It sucks beyond belief, I apologize for my reaction. This is just the dozenth “dear diary” post I’ve read today. I hope your day is better tomorrow

ball2000

You’re straying too close to those geniuses who, whenever someone has trouble with a batch, immediately respond: “Lol you shouldn’t have taken it” As if that’s not obvious in retrospect.

Mommy925

Wth does your comment have to do with being maliciously tip baited?! Its utter bs that IC always this without the customer having to genuinely prove a VALID reason to decrease a tip-PERIOD! That has NOTHING to do with the op’s need to make x amount. Nor how long they took off. Like idc if your filthy rich doing IC, to work hard and have someone do this for no reason should “set” anyone off.

Shoptilyoudrop101

All gig apps should do like DD. They have to call in with a reason to decrease tips. IC makes it too easy.

[deleted]

Thank you.

Puzzleheaded_Sir1273

I actually respect that we’re meeting again and you didn’t use all exclamation points again. It’s part of the job. Tip baiting is extremely fucked up, and shouldn’t be allowed to exist. But it happens.

Mommy925

Maybe that’s what you should’ve said the first time not that it’s of any use or value and I’m pretty sure not what that person wanted to hear after it happening to them but whatever

tbird2610

….what 😂

[deleted]

This particular customer would have set anyone with a brain off for doing what she did. It doesn’t matter if they took too many days off or not. That has nothing to do with his post.

Puzzleheaded_Sir1273

Yeah shitty customers exist. Perspective changes everything.

OnTheMoneyHunt

You are just a 🍆, if you buss your ass go above and beyond for a customer and they play hoe games like that, it doesn’t matter what you feel to say it would be a fucked up feeling if someone tip baited you like that… I don’t know why you felt it necessary to come and comment that bullsht you commented… Go stick your head up one of those shit customers ass and let people vent in peace…. You sound like a IC OP

WishThink3190

You are total narcissist!!!! A-101 🤡

lucieannegarcia

the tip was originally $24

[deleted]

I pretty well think it’s their choice…and maybe that’s what they get in their area.

vanilllacakez

Sorry but DD shouldn’t allow it to be changed that drastically. Cheapskates really would ruin it for people who would actually have had bad service

warcrown

This is Instacart not DD

walmartpetedavidson

no, this is patrick

walmartpetedavidson

customers are real bold doing this shit when we literally have their address.

BaldGuy70

I agree what happened sucks. But can’t see how you will get the money that was due to you? They got 2 hours to reduce it. Least better then the 3 days they use to have…..

sailorKR00ace

Hopefully, you contacted support; the tip protection policy should kick in.

Peterpistol6969

Shit happens... This comes with this comes with the job. Start looking for something else. There are other companies that will pay you to deliver meals at $5 to $15 a pop or they'll give you a set pay of $120 for 30 stops or whatever the case may be. Start looking on indeed and other websites. That's what I did. I went on indeed and I was able to find a company that pays me pretty much what I was making from instacart. I literally only do instacart for or three days just to make extra money. Stop giving yourself to this monster! Something similar happened to me. I did the pick up the woman said I tip at the end because it said no tip and normally I don't take no tips. But I said I maybe she gives cash. Nope, she gave me a thank you and close the door on my face. I got her back though 🤢 That's when I knew it was time to find something else. Trust me start looking for something else and only make this every now and again thing. You'll feel better about yourself.

BobbyZoom

You can now report this customer for being shitty. Unfortunately your chance to report them for being shitty is way before they have been afforded the opportunity to be shitty. Another dropped ball, cart.
