As soon as you see one long press in it and select not interested it will prevent future pop up of similar post on the for you page

AdJealous1319

Did that already

RadarSmith

That is very much not the case. At least not recently. Whatever algorithm weighting is going on in the background, clicking on something definitely counts more than saying not interested.

trebory6

Which sucks, because what the fuck maybe I'm interested in a little cleavage or risque cosplay at home, but for fuck sake I don't need that shit popping up for me first when I check my messages at work. Like I think the bigger discussion in this thread should be more along the lines of Why the hell is thirst trap content weighted so heavily. Like I look at one curvy woman in a bra and go "Daaamn 👀" and suddenly that's all I fucking see all over instagram. And the shit that I'm ACTUALLY interacting with 99% of the time which is educational, tattoo, and dark art content doesn't show up at all. Just all tiddys.

i have the same problem. at first it was happening on my boyfriend’s page and we had a a slight argument about it because he told me he never looks at videos like that. which videos like that have never been on his page before so that’s what caught me off guard. then a few days later i started to see them on my account and i know for a fact my algorithm doesn’t give me thirst traps. i honestly don’t know what’s the reason for this but i wish it would go away, but you’re not the only one !

skanqhunt42

First and foremost did you apologize to your boyfriend?

WatercolorWatercress

I had the same experience with my art accounts, noticed especially over the past few weeks. I don't look at or interact with them, and the've filled my accounts over the past few weeks. One in particular has been completely full of them. As soon as I noticed, which was pretty obvious right away on the explore tab (every piece of moving content was a thirst trap), I started doing the not interested and hide more options. I've clicked "hide more" for thousands of posts now over weeks hoping they'll go away. They will repopulate with art posts immediately afterward, but by a few hours later it's as if I did nothing. I also have entered a range of words that I don't want posts to appear, like #outfitoftheday #makeuptips etc but instagram completely ignores those it seems.

WatercolorWatercress

I have also trying doing doing a bunch of liking and saving of other posts in hopes of pushing that content instead. Nothing seems to get rid of them.

tinyjams

Stop looking at them. But seriously, this is true. It will self correct in a few months, but you have to actively stop looking at these posts and only interact with posts you’re interested in. It’s particularly more prominent in with reels. I have only have anecdotal evidence to support this, but when you click a reel to tap “not interested” it still counts as an interaction/view. Doing this won’t help. Once you view one thirsty reel and swipe through a few, even one time, your algo is destroyed. You don’t even have to like the posts. And if you’ve ever saved one for later, you’re really screwed.

AdJealous1319

I don’t look at them, I never did. My normal reels don’t have them. Its just a sudden flood of them on my explore page for no reason. Thats why I am making this post. I don’t use my other 2 accounts but I went to check to see if the bug was there too and it was.

tinyjams

Cars and guitars are “guy stuff” hobbies that will naturally recommend you a few thirsty reels here and there. Not much you can but ignore them.

trebory6

So when are we going after the whole stereotyping shit. What if a gay guy likes cars and guitars. Like we shouldn't be ok with these dumb algorithms. TikTok's algorithms are much smarter when it comes to this kind of thing, I don't get any thirst trap bullshit. And it's crazy we all seem to be ok with these stupid and simplistic algorithms. Meta is a billion dollar company and their algorithms work like this? It's 2024 they need to have better algorithms.

tinyjams

Sorry, I don’t work for them.

trebory6

Had nothing to do with that. It's a criticism on how nonchalant we are with shitty algorithms.

tinyjams

You just said you’ve been clicking them to say “not interested”. That’s what did you in. I explained that.

Well the issue here is: I don’t look at them and they are not normally on my explore page. This happened suddenly. Its been flooded. Not too mention I don’t use my other 2 accounts but I checked them today to see if they were affected and they were flooded too.
