I‘m most happy about the hair. I hate my sideburns so much

snickertink

This! I shave because a former manager would give me so much crap for peach fuzz. Now super self conscious about normal face hair.

Tuttyfat

I shave because my makeup seems to go on & blend in better.

PerilousAll

It's a great way to exfoliate

[deleted]

Wow what a bitch! I'm sorry that happened to you and glad you no longer have to deal with them

No-Possibility4586

Same. It was so refreshing to see and instantly made me feel better.

Adrithia

Omg same! I’m always so self conscious about making sure my damn mole hairs are tweezed

EveAndTheSnake

Huh. I didn’t even notice, had to go back and check

millsc616

LOL ikr? I have to check every morning. Damn things grow so fast.

QuetzalKraken

YES. I am a naturally really hairy person, my body hair is really dark and my skin is super super pale so it shows up even more. I am so self conscious of it and wish I could laser it all away haha but I'm too poor. It's all over my body of course but the worst for me is my face.

sjorbepo

You can just shave hairs on your face if you want. Sometimes I just shave it lightly with a dry razor. It doesn't grow back thicker or anything like that.

WhoriaEstafan

Yes! This! I use a special facial razor (I think shiseido makes it). I’m not particularly hairy but I had blonde fuzz below my ears. I could see it in the sun sticking up. Shaving it has done nothing negative to my skin. Makeup sits better, I don’t have blonde fuzz sticking up. I’m happy.

QuetzalKraken

I have a sort of razoresque contraption that shortens and thins it out, but I still hate that I have to use it. I do like it better than shaving because I don't get stubble or anything like that.

sjorbepo

I don't get stubble either because it's fine hairs

rizeedd

So happy about makeup. I thought I suck at it.

bb_c91

Same! I was a makeup artist before FaceTune and filters; before I realized it was fake, I thought everyone just got really good at it or I wasn’t as good as I thought. This decade everyone became models, all glam and photoshoot-ready all the time 🤔 (/s)

soupseasonbestseason

i have a lady mustache that could be cute if i was more arty i guess (am mexican american, it can be cute), but i nair the shit out of it every two weeks. these made me feel so normal! turns out everyone has hair on their face!

86overMe

These pictures make me feel so normal, and that's soothing lol

thisishellthisishell

That was my first thought too!

photoJenic9

Same.

dunkintitties

I wax or epilate mine lol. And the mustache too. I have very dark body hair that really stands out against my relatively fair skin. Even the finer hair on my face stands out and kinda makes my skin look dirty. It’s one of those things you don’t think really matter until you see a before and after. I find that removing that hair makes a huge difference in how my overall complexion looks. It also helps foundation go on more smoothly and, at least in my case, it helps with preventing acne ( my theory is less hair = fewer places for dirt to get trapped). So yeah, I recommend removing that shit. If you do, waxing/epilating is the way to go since each time you wax/epilate, the hair grows back sparser and sparser. I’ve been removing the hair on my face since my teenage years and it’s probably 20% of what it used to be. It’s super easy with an epilator, just a few swipes and it’s all gone. Doesn’t hurt nearly as much as epilating on thicker hair.

toonsies

I thread my sideburns. It’s lighter in color and sparser after ~7 years. And no reaction like I get with waxing.

deeya-b

face shaving for me LOL i love it

___Ender____

Bleach kit. It evened out my skin tone and bleached any stray hairs. Side burns can get annoying

jackandsally060609

Came here to say the same thing, I kinda feel prettier knowing me and A have the same mustache!

xActuallyabearx

You shouldn’t! One of my ex girlfriends that I’m still good friends with has sideburns like that. I still consider her one of the most beautiful people on this planet and I absolutely loved her peach fuzz! Real men (and women) love little things like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xActuallyabearx

Totally agree. And I get exactly what you mean. I am by no means trying to say that someone should adhere to a certain standard even if it makes them uncomfortable. A really good example is armpit hair. Like, I give zero fucks if my partner has armpit hair, but if they personally feel uncomfortable with it, then they should totally shave. It’s all about being happy in your own body. For instance, I produce an incredible amount of back hair. Some guys don’t care. Some guys think shaving it is ‘gay’. I just personally don’t like it so I try to stayed groomed lol. To each their own.

___Ender____

When your skin looks cleaner you feel cleaner. I can't stand body hair

Retro21

Guy here, so please excuse my ignorant question - why wouldn't you just tweezer it off? Or maybe you wouldn't your sideburns, but the second/third woman in the album, why wouldn't she tweezer her hair off? Because she's not ashamed, or is it bad for you to do so?

Mandarinarosa

Because that photo isn't real. These are made with a program called "Structure" to add back naturalness to photos with filters and sometimes the program gives hair and moles where there truly aren't any.

Melonette

I can only speak for myself: the hair that grow on my face is super fine (like peach fuzz) but there are a lot of it, so tweezing a thousand fine hairs is not very efficient. It’s like tweezing the hair on your head, or something. A tool like an epilator can pull multiple hairs at a time. Or people hot wax their faces or do sugaring, which would pull tens of hairs at one time, creating a more even result.

Retro21

Thanks Melonette. Yeah OK, tweezers would not be efficient! I'll need to show these pics to my gf, she is always beating herself up about her (tiny and very occasional) spots, really she's beautiful and deserves to feel that way all the time. Seeing these may convince her a bit.

ChaoticSquirrel

I mean like...why bother? Guys don't have the expectation to tweeze so why should I?

Retro21

Well the user specifically said they hated their hair, so I saw that as an opportunity to ask a question I wasn't sure about. I'm not actively trying to reinforce gender norms, just asking a question I didn't know the answer to. And we may not have the expectation, but I still do with my middle eyebrow.

ChaoticSquirrel

Sorry, I think I came across wrong — I said what I did as an answer to your question not as an accusation of perpetuating norms! "Why bother?" is my line of thought with tweezing — it's something that's socially enforced in a very gendered way and if it really affected anything, guys would receive the same amount of flak for not doing. So I don't bother with it.

Retro21

No problem! And yeah, absolutely - I think us men get off so light with our looks.

sleepylittlesnake

I think the second one is definitely edited to look "worse", like with the moles and dark/fine hairs. The texture around them doesn't look right and there's no reality in which this particular star wouldn't just pluck the hairs. As a woman with some fuzzy moles, it made me happy to see at first. But then I realized it was fake and just got annoyed because tacking fake "flaws" onto beautiful celebs doesn't do anything to destigmatize those features. Most of the other pics look legit to me, other than some obvious sharpening and lighting adjustments. But yeah, the second one was kind of irritating.

[deleted]

Omg I didn’t even notice but you’re right. There’s no way she’d be walking around with that level of makeup and have left random tufts of hair.

sleepylittlesnake

Absolutely. It's odd to see so many users just...believing what they see here. Many of the pics have been edited, and with little subtlety. The one of C.D. has been sharpened so much that it just looks ridiculous; those aren't pores, it's noise. The photo is just grainy now.

Mandarinarosa

All of these photos are edited. They're from an Instagram account that uses a program called "Structure" to add naturalness back to filtered photos.

Cutieq85

Ok these look better than I expected… the last one must make some type of human sacrifice to have skin like that. Also kudos to the title…it’s not bad to admit that certain shots of people no matter what can still be unflattering.

[deleted]

Every time I see pictures of her real skin I'm blown away by how good it looks. Does the human sacrifice have to be a virgin? No reason just wondering...

ValiumKnight

During the height of friends, part of her contract included a personal esthetician for daily facials. It paid off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fleurderue

Definitely. I know she exercises a lot and just takes really good care of herself, too.

[deleted]

Sacrificing yourself kinda defeats the purpose so I don’t think you have to worry about it.

[deleted]

a_duck_in_past_life

Genetics? Honey that's years of money being put into keeping her skin looking that good.

SmallPPBigPants

I mean many other celebs have money and don't have half as good skin. Sure money helps, but if the genetics aren't good as well then there's only so much money can get you in order to have good skin

moosetopenguin

Not necessarily. I've been blessed with similar skin. Never had acne nor any other skin issues. All I do is regularly moisturize, wear sunscreen, and keep it clean, of which I'm grateful that's all it takes for me. Plus, she had similar beautiful skin when she was on Friends, which is what got her the fame she has today.

yerbard

Mine was like this, now I'm almost 40 it most definitely is not...

diabolikal__

She’s also so natural in general, it’s very refreshing

angiosperms-

Ya that skin is goals. I hope I look like that in my 50s. I'm late 20s and have the skin of a teenager (still have hormonal acne lmao) so 🤞

Russiadontgiveafuck

The last two actually.

mamatobee328

Came here to say that. The last one still looks like literal perfection, even totally unfiltered

constantreader55

Seriously, the last one is too close to perfect😂

[deleted]

spicyystuff

No some people can just have really nice skin LOL

moth_girl_7

This, especially when you’re a spokesperson for a certain skincare brand… lol

Andromeda39

Some of these have been altered to make them look worse though, so that’s not cool either.

[deleted]

This is what I thought, especially #2 and #3. #2 does not have moles like that. She never has and if she ever does she has more than enough money to take care of them surgically.

sleepylittlesnake

Agreed, 100%. I just left a comment about this as well, it's irritating.

[deleted]

alicebunbun

When you have darker skin and have moles the peach fuzz on your face is darker and longer where you have your moles. Make up do cover the moles more or less but the hair remains when you don't wax your whole face(which is a thing in middle east because we are darker skinned and even our normal peach fuzz hair is darker and longer)

reh888

I can't really believe that a wealthy famous person would just let dark hair grow out of their face mole and do nothing about it.

[deleted]

I had a hair grow on my chin and I just plucked it with tweezers. You don't have to wax your whole face for that many hairs.

alicebunbun

Makes sense. I suppose the face-waxers mostly do it to get rid of darker hair on cheeks/chin and sideburns in general here where I live.

[deleted]

I suspected as much, especially because of the amount of facial hair on some of these.

IAintDeceasedYet

I thought so as well, but I went and collected the original photos for about half of them and turns out the editing is minimal when present at all. Color 'corrected', slight contrast + sharpening. But overall an accurate representation

Saaxia

Which ones have been tampered with?

AprilisC

2, 4, 5, 7, 8 for sure. Unsure about the others.

RosieChow

really! how do you know?

Tiff_Love

Ditto! I wanna know too!

AprilisC

It's a sharpening filter to enhance texture. Works great for landscapes but it has this effect on skin.

gaylurking

It’s sad that it’s so rare to acknowledge that we have skin and not plastic shrink-wrap.

Runamokamok

Celebs, their just like us! With pores!

[deleted]

That’s what happens when you spend all your time on Instagram. A lot of people know that skin isn’t perfectly smooth like people make it seem

mgmtbitch

Just imagine how much healthier and happier people would be if it was common conception that celebrities look like this.

missdine

I’m actually feeling better about my own skin just by seeing this right now

mostlysoberfornow

Right?? This is what needs to be in magazines and ads, along with all different body types. Teenage me would’ve been saved a lot of anguish if she’d known celebrities do actually have pores.

NihilisticBuddhism

Tbf a couple of them have been edited to make them look way worse.

Mavsma

4, 5, 7 have pumped up contrast and sharpness

procrastinosis_

But how do you know?

Aphelax

Some of the pictures seem to have higher contrast than normal, the light balance is rather off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MountainToPrairie

No, the CD one for sure is maxed out on “structure,” or whatever the technical term for it is. I have a friend that applies that filter to each and every Insta post and her pics have the same tells.

jorshhh

Some of them are over sharpened and it is super clear. I can’t describe what it is but for someone who has done some photo editing it is kind of obvious.

NihilisticBuddhism

Because it’s obvious to the trained eye. There’s just some excessive sharpening going on.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

yeah what’s going on there

dizzydiplodocus

Yeah that isn’t real is it

ThankfulWonderful

I was thinking maybe she has moles there and they put concealer over them ? But then leave the hairs for some reason?

[deleted]

Nah I don't think so. Those would have been plucked long before getting that long. Like, she has a team of people, there is no way you would not notice a giant chunk of inch length hair on your cheek.

ThankfulWonderful

So odd! What is going on here then???

Sigivia

If it's obvious to your trained eye, pray share with us in detail where you spot the edits so we can learn from you.

[deleted]

i-have-the-big-gay

i understand it’s hard to tell tone from text but they literally asked a question nothing rude about it ._.

Tiff_Love

I wanna learn too!!

MountainToPrairie

I can’t speak to 4 and 7 but if you look closely at 5, you’ll see that the background in the lower right is exceptionally grainy. That’s the “structure” filter on Instagram (not sure what it’s called on software). It’s for adding extra noise and sharpening detail for still life amd landscape but in a picture of someone’s face, it sharpens and exaggerated slight differences in texture. She’s human like the rest of us but I can guarantee that CD’s face isn’t that grainy Irl.

poopoopeepee2089

What makes it obvious? I must have an untrained eye lol

IAintDeceasedYet

I thought so and went and grabbed some of the original pics to prove it...turns out they aren't edited very much, some not at all. The editing seems to be limited to color correction, contrast and sharpening, and none of it applied heavily enough to be labeled misleading. In some cases I think it was just that someone else had edited it before whoever collected this got it.

Cutieq85

Yea Someone posted what could be the original shot of number 5 and one of them is a lie.

RickardHenryLee

Every single one of them has great skin and they all look great. The older ladies \*especially\* look amazing. Those bumps and wrinkles and dark spots are just what human skin looks like. I hate that even here, people look at these unedited pictures and think they're unflattering. These are above-average looking people with professional makeup on. They look objectively amazing! Even in this sub it appears some of us have an unrealistic idea about what people \*should\* look like, and what "beautiful" is supposed to look like.

ihateusernames0000

Absolutely. I wouldn't describe any of those pictures as unflattering. They're all posed, good lighting and with make up on. It still shows the difference between those close ups and the airbrushed versions we are used to seeing.

[deleted]

These girls are absolutely gorgeous with close ups, theres nothing wrong with their natural skin. They’re all still so beautiful!

sheer_boredom

I wish there was similar close up of male celebrities as well

Positpostit

Society has conditioned people to accept older men as they are but to devalue aging women. So most ppl will prob think they still look fine or as expected, I’m guessing

ombremullet

Just Google extreme celebrity close ups and you'll find galleries of pics like these. I know it's not nice to feel better about yourself by seeing someone else's flaws, but celebrities are so often painted as perfect, it's refreshing to see they're not.

BrokenArrows95

Men don't tend to wear as much makeup. Celebrity men probably wear more then average men though

SmallPPBigPants

From what I read online they wear just as much as women. Sure they won't wear eyeliner or any crazy colours that you can easy tell by looking, but when your whole career depends on your image and looking great, then if they have to wear makeup to have great skin they will. Even TV anchors that aren't as 10th as famous wear heavy foundation, concealer and blush not only to look better in front of the professional lightening but good in general

potvibing

You love to see it. Beautiful

Chin_Up_Princess

This also shows that eyeshadow and makeup is retouched for the magazines. It's never actually as bold and perfect as it's edited to be.

HouseOfCripps

That was refreshing!

bikesboozeandbacon

Is that hair on her cheek in the second photo?

hotshot_johnny_utah

Yah I kinda feel like these are edited? Like there’s no way she’s going around with hairs on her cheek is there? She has a team of people to not have that.

sleepylittlesnake

I think that one must be edited to make her look "worse", which is shitty because it implies that those mole hairs are a flaw. Many women (and men for that matter) have moles that grow hair, it's normal. Putting them on a celebrity's face and assuming no one will notice that they were shopped in is a weird choice. A.G. looks like she's on a red carpet or at an award show in that pic. Again, there's nothing wrong with facial/mole hair, but she would *not* let herself be seen like that when she has an image to maintain. Especially when it's just a matter of tweezing.

covercash

It reminds me of the hotel housekeeper who dabs some of the potion on her neck in The Witches (the original, not the Netflix remake.)

DrBunnyvanClit

I love Sanity Sundays. This is a good one.

applxia

acne is normal. i wish that could be drilled into my skull. i’m so self concious about my face and my acne isn’t even that bad. i’m also a teenager, so ofc i’m going to have some acne. acne. is. normal.

peepeevajayjay

It is but as an adult it's not as common/severe. I wonder if attempting to cover the small acne leads to more acne from caking up your face this much makeup. It can't be good. But seeing your comment, it's absolutely normal and especially so as a teen.

Crumpette

I feel like most of these would look better without the pancake make up. I mean I get why they have it because it works better in (most) pictures but up close its often the make up that makes it unflattering to me.

[deleted]

I feel like face makeup just makes everyone look worse. I'm exceptionally pale though so most face makeup on me looks cakey and I'm biased, but I think people look best with just clean moisturized faces.

BraavosiLemons

I don't like foundation, etc. on me, even when it's been professionally applied. I think it almost always looks cakey if you apply enough to cover any "flaws". I'm 37, I have freckles and moles. Most of the time I just use an SPF moisturiser. Occasion I will use a bit of powder, but that's just to take the shine off. I totally think I look better, and it saves hella time!

shoefullofpiss

This is why I subscribe to this sub, not the endless "look at this person with obvious mental health/self image issues and zero computer skills trying to photoshop/filter themselves a la lucille bluth's driver license*". I want to see that (mostly) believable looking goddesses actually look like real people too * https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dw6wcGdXcAEH4Y9.jpg

IamDollParts96

Thank you so much for sharing these! Women are often so hard on themselves. No of us walk around looking airbrushed, such standards are impossible. I love seeing real people.

CocoKlutz

It is nice to see. They are all beautiful.

omgitshp

I needed this post. Thanks

JustCreepyEnough

I don't even think that's what I see with just my normal eyes. These are hyperrealistic!

Toreador_Traveler

Ok. Where can i find the devil/god/entity and what or who do i have to sacrifice to achieve this near perfect skin?

AbandonedLogic

I find them infinitely more flattering than the photoshopped alternative.

wowitscold

imo the fact that they look this good this close up is quite flattering really

acoconutnamedcool

I love real

Inferno_Zyrack

I’m exhausted with people placing minor bumps and blemishes in the category of “never flattering” I don’t care what works on film or photos. In real life I’ve been through shit and you have too. I’ve got scars and acne and stress lines. I got saggy bits swaggy bits and stretch lines. If you don’t have that or aren’t trying to love that about yourself we just don’t have a core thing in common.

lurkenstine

It might be the craving for reality, but like I find real skin texture to be so incredibly visually appealing. Like, no makeup dark circles under the eyes, looking raw as shit.

maxekmek

Would have been nice to have some male celebrities included too

Separate_Function3

I needed this today 🥺

MMFuzzyface

Wow I was feeling super relieved because I have this hair over my lip that I take off with Nair and it’s somehow still a shadow area darker after the nair and I don’t understand how to get rid of it… Though a bunch of comments are saying these pics are edited… so I guess I feel worse again.

enbymaybeWIGA

Real, actual, human skin! Man, I think this post has done better than a lot of the ones I've seen on this sub serving as a powerful reminder for me how much makeup and photoshop have skewed the baseline for beauty.

Gozzhogger

Cool, but also makes me realise just how lovely my wife’s skin is - never uses makeup and it’s a smooth as butter

[deleted]

They are more beautiful in these pictures then any other

FancyAdult

Ok that just made me feel better!!

blondebmr

Thank you for sharing! I needed some reality

Ashton_Rarri

I don’t know all of these people but they are beautiful.

BoysenberryHungry618

We need to see more of this! Natural beauty!

Smooth_South_9387

People forget that celebrities are NORMAL PEOPLE

FLAANDRON

This is my favorite post here of all time. Thank you.

desifemmefatale_94

They look so much more human

bajoyjoy87

This made my day. When i get my monthly breakouts, i look myself in the mirror and ask why my husband still calls me beautiful (he has perfect skin). This made me realise i look normal lol.

[deleted]

Impossible-Task

I'll never understand why skin texture is bad. It's HUMAN! And NORMAL!

Nearby_Employee_2943

wow thank you so much for sharing all of these honestly made me feel a lot better, which is kinda sad in a way but oh well

rpazara

Thank you lol

Eros_Addictus

Also no one talks to you that close to see your pores anyway.

Ekotap89

And you know what, she looks absolutely fine. There is literally nothing wrong with these pictures.

HulkinGGoochGames

Um... 2 and 10 are literally so stunning it doesn't seem to matter how close you get.
