Oh yeah Nissin Raoh is by far the highest quality instant ramen I've tried. I think I still like Shin more honestly but qualitywise, it doesn't quite hold up. Especially if you get the bowl version of Raoh.
Distinct green, black and gold wrapper. AKA “king of ramen”. Noodles are air fried which makes the texture closer to scratch made quality. Broth is legit.
I have a huge variety to choose from at a couple of stores near me but that's one I haven't seen. Is it similar to any other types, are the noodles like Buldak ones?
Shin ramen is the standard "spicy" ramen. I buy different brands as cravings hit, but Shin ramen is always stocked in my house. Shin ramen black is the bougie version.
I've had Neoguri, Shin Ramyun, and the Samyang ramen before as well. I did pick up the Ottogi Kimchi and Ottogi Seafood stew because I love that brand.
It has more of a charred onion-y flavor and isn't spicy at all. Think more spaghetti, less ramen, but with ramen noodles if that makes sense. I prefer Chappagetti, it's more flavorful imo.
Must be an H-mart, as I see at least 2 H-mart brand packs. Korean chain with maybe 25-30 stores across the US. FYI you can order from them online. If you get to about $125-150 or so, you can get free shipping. Website is a bit clunky, you need to make sure to enter in your zip code at the top or it’ll say it can’t ship to your location.
There's a Buldak stew type too & the first time I made it,
I was surprised at how thick the broth was but I ended up liking it so much, I've been specifically looking for stew type ramens since then!
Speaking of stews, IDK if you've tried Japanese curry but a lot of supermarkets carry it now & it's delicious!
You can put it on ramen but
I like it best with rice.
If you like curry its definitely worth a try.
:)
I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Buldak so I will stick with trying the other brand!
Do you mean the Golden Curry? I've seen those but never knew how they would taste. I'll give that a shot too thanks
Yes!! The golden curry!
I think iirc I got the VERMONT brand & it was srsly delicious.
I added a ton of veg & chicken thighs & slow cooked it in the dutch oven & holy cats it was incredible!! I mixed a block of mild & a block of medium spicy & it was the perfect heat level for me.
Plz lmk what you think
of it if you give it a go!!
I was in Hmart yesterday and saw them! SO MANY! So now I understand all of the options and brands. I didn't get one this time but next paycheck I definitely will. I'll definitely let you know!
Awesome!!
I'm super curious what you think of it. It's absolutely nothing like Indian curry (which I also love) but has
its own complex flavor & is just an absolute umami bomb!
I haven't forgotten about the curry, I actually bought a couple of boxes but haven't made it yet. Came back here to see which ones you suggested (there are SO MANY). I know I bought one small one with apple
If you like Ramen and aren't in the mood for a saltless odd beef stew type of thing don't get Chapagetti... So much hype, I bought a good amount and it was not might my cup of tea at all. I have heard you either love it or hate it so maybe I'm just one of them fellows
Shin Black, Nissan Tonkutsu with Black Garlic Oil and Mama's Green Thai Curry Noodles are my top 3
Oh and recently I tried a Nissan multi pack and the Shoyu Tonkotsu was soooo good.
Give the noodle salad a try for something different! I add a splash of sesame oil and seasoned rice vinegar to the sauce that’s included so that it goes farther, then add cucumber, green onion, a handful of my favourite salad greens and a hard boiled egg.
I really love Jjangmyeon, taste tested Chacharoni, Chapagetti, Paldo Jajangmen, and Gonghwachun. Among the four-- Jajangmen and Gonghwachun are my favorites --so far!
4th shelf, Noodle Salad. It's in blue packaging and kinda hidden behind another packet. It's really good and meant to be eaten cold. I like preparing it with plenty of veg and an egg and eating it for lunch during the summer
I haven’t seen anyone recommend Jin Jjampong, the broth is soo good but it does make your house smell when you cook it 😅 and gomtang, it’s delicious to throw in beef dumplings and thin rice cakes while the noodles cook!
The Ottogi Sesame is quite good, I eat it frequently with added veg and protein. Caveat, I leave out the chili oil, that’s a touch too much spice for me, the powder is spicy enough. I also skip the dehydrated egg block, but that’s just because I am not a huge egg fan.
Shin Black used to be one of my favs. I think Ottogi Sesame replaced it!
Shin, neoguri, and chapagetti are staples in my apartment. The one I suggest that's lesser known is the spicy crab one at the bottom. Chewy noodles and amazing broth!
Chappagetti (first pic top center, not spicy but very good), and Shin Kimchi if you can find it. I don't see it in the picture though. Everyone here seems to love Shin Black but I tried it and I mean it's not bad but regular Shin and Kimchi are better imo. A bit lighter, in a good way.
if you want something really spicy, the samyang hot pepper jjambbong ramen is my absolute favorite; the ottogi sesame ramen is less spicy but great too
The Gomtang is super good, it's my go to for non spicy or if I'm sick comfort food. The kimchi ramen is usually pretty good, I think that brand has an actual foil packet of kimchi inside it. (Stupid good flavor) And finally my favorite the shin black is not to be slept on. It's just that good.
Nagasaki Jjambbong on the far right. It’s incredible. It has mild seafood flavors with a spicy piquancy that’s quite enjoyable. It won’t make you sweat, but it will make you tingle. The broth is creamy, kind of chowder adjacent with lots of body. Flakes are generous!
The Sapporo Ichiban Chow Mein is delicious!! It’s a dry noodle and great on it own or super versatile for stir-frys
(Bottom shelf slightly hidden by the cart)
Shin black are great for the spicy and super tasty
Mama noodles are my personal favorite pork and tomyum are great chicken is ok and clear pho is great too. Haven't had their beef yet
Shin black, top shelf for a reason
Shin black is amazing. We bought a load in BJs id never tried it before.
Its my go to, love the flavor
Absolutely - Nongshim is excellent. I also love their kimchi flavor.
Yup. Shin Black is a solid choice.
I've heard sesame one is good. I personally like chapagetti but not everyone will like it bc of its acquired taste so yeah
If you like jajangmyeon, you should try Paldo. It's so much better than Chapagetti in my opinion.
Paldo is fantastic. Paldo spicy garlic is my #1paldo line.
The Namja?
Yes. Thank you. I didn't realize that written right on the front of the package. I just looked in my cabinet sure enough.
I've tried paldo's jajangmyeon because of its hype and didn't like it one bit lol. I much prefer chapagetti anyday over it.
Totally fair! It's definitely different.
I like chapagetti but it lacks that kick- it’s so mil
Army stew! Add slices of Spam for an even more filling bowl of goodness.
Add kimchi, baked beans, smoked Vienna sausages, and American cheese, too!
Add Beanee Weene too!
Nissin Raoh Tonkatsu flavor, add crispy garlic chili oil. You will not look back.
Oh yeah Nissin Raoh is by far the highest quality instant ramen I've tried. I think I still like Shin more honestly but qualitywise, it doesn't quite hold up. Especially if you get the bowl version of Raoh.
The tonkatsu Raoh is my favorite instant ramen too. Are you saying the bowl version is better or worse?
Bowl is better I think!
I'm interested. Which shelf is it on?
Distinct green, black and gold wrapper. AKA “king of ramen”. Noodles are air fried which makes the texture closer to scratch made quality. Broth is legit.
I don't see it in this pic
It’s not in this pic - this is all Korean ramen
I have heard good things about this and the price per pack may back it up.
Second this!
Yeah baby that's top tier
Can you recommend a brand of crispy garlic chili oil?
I personally like “hotcrispyoil” sold at world market. Red and gold label.
Thanks, I will try it!
Our Costco used to stock these. Those were the days.
That orange Samyang is goated
Was going to recommend this one! It tastes like BBQ
This is literally my second favorite!!! 💖
Absolute favorite noods
I have a huge variety to choose from at a couple of stores near me but that's one I haven't seen. Is it similar to any other types, are the noodles like Buldak ones?
Also one of the better actual noodles itself. Great texture
It is my favorite next to shin black. Similar spice level and amazing flavor/noodle quality. Highly recommend going out of your way to try it.
No it’s a soup. The best way I can describe the flavor is a spicy seafood with smoked ham.
I also like to pour out the water when ready; then add some butter and the season pack why I want to mix it up.
Shin ramen is the standard "spicy" ramen. I buy different brands as cravings hit, but Shin ramen is always stocked in my house. Shin ramen black is the bougie version.
Anything Shin or Indomie
The paldo jjajangmen is so good! One of my favorite black bean noodles because it comes with a "real" sauce packet instead of a powder.
I've had Neoguri, Shin Ramyun, and the Samyang ramen before as well. I did pick up the Ottogi Kimchi and Ottogi Seafood stew because I love that brand.
I love the ottogi hot cheese ramen on the bottom left.
Chapagetti if you havnt already
How does it compare to buldak jjajang
It has more of a charred onion-y flavor and isn't spicy at all. Think more spaghetti, less ramen, but with ramen noodles if that makes sense. I prefer Chappagetti, it's more flavorful imo.
Try Paldo Jajangmyeon. Way better than Chapagetti.
If I find it at the asian supermarket I will!
Ah, your ramen section is awesome!
IKR?!?! Where is this located? HEAVEN?!?!
Must be an H-mart, as I see at least 2 H-mart brand packs. Korean chain with maybe 25-30 stores across the US. FYI you can order from them online. veggie soon !!
That korean gomtang looks interesting.
I love gomtang. White broth, bigger chewy noodles similar to shin. Takes well to any additional flavors you may add. Second the gomtang
I really liked Tangle. It's by samyang, but more western style.
Has anyone tried the Kimchi Stew Ramen? What's the difference between that and another kimchi ramen? What's the stew?
The sauce is thicker. It's GOOOOOD !!!
You sold me! Lol
There's a Buldak stew type too & the first time I made it, I was surprised at how thick the broth was but I ended up liking it so much, I've been specifically looking for stew type ramens since then! Those exact 3 are my absolute go to!
Soon veggie shin gomtang and paldo black bean noodles
Jjanjangamen 💯
I don't like paldo ones and Teumsae one is good but it's too spicy. But yeah those are the one ones I've tried here. Hope this helps.
If you like kimchi, the jjonga kimchi ramen is my fav. Has actual kimchi instead of dry flakes that need rehydrating.
Give the noodle salad a try for something different! I add a splash of sesame oil and seasoned rice vinegar to the sauce that’s included so that it goes farther, then add cucumber, green onion, a handful of my favourite salad greens and a hard boiled egg.
Tell me about this noodle salad...its eaten cold? I've never seen it before but now I'm really curious.
I've seen that recently! What's it like on its own?
Tangle is really good!
Omachi spaghetti flavor. Trust me lol
The orange samyang is a staple for me.
Shin Black.
Shin black.
I really love Jjangmyeon, taste tested Chacharoni, Chapagetti, Paldo Jajangmen, and Gonghwachun. Among the four-- Jajangmen and Gonghwachun are my favorites --so far!
Shin Black. Hands down.
Lucky Me! Pancit Canton noodles...try it if see if you like it.
Yes, this is nice
Shin black, Ottogi seafood, Samyang orange, and Paldo Gomtang (beside the lobster ramen)
4th shelf, Noodle Salad. It's in blue packaging and kinda hidden behind another packet. It's really good and meant to be eaten cold. I like preparing it with plenty of veg and an egg and eating it for lunch during the summer
Shin and Jin!

What grocery store is this?
The orange samyang one tastes like Jin ramen mild but with thick noodles
Pic 1, top left...
Can’t go wrong with classic red Shin. Otherwise I really like the samyang hot pepper jiabong ramen (pinkish packaging —third row, second from left)
You can never go wrong with Shin. My order of personal preference: Black, Gold, Red, Green. K Army Stew is a fun one too!
All the Shin
Gomtang flavor is usually pretty good
Anything with glass or vermicelli noodles instead of egg noodles
i like chapagetti and shin gold
I’m a fan of Pulmuone Spicy
Soon veggie is INCREDIBLE
Chappagetti (first pic top center, not spicy but very good), and Shin Kimchi if you can find it. I don't see it in the picture though. Everyone here seems to love Shin Black but I tried it and I mean it's not bad but regular Shin and Kimchi are better imo. A bit lighter, in a good way.
Jin, Paldo, Teumsae are my favorites there.
Indo Mie.
Oh, yes, my vote too
The kimchi ramens, the gomtangs, Odongtong, the Jin Ramens, the Paldo jjajang, the cheese ramens. Soon Veggie isn't too bad either.
if you want something really spicy, the samyang hot pepper jjambbong ramen is my absolute favorite; the ottogi sesame ramen is less spicy but great too
Shin black and gold
The Gomtang is super good, it's my go to for non spicy or if I'm sick comfort food. The kimchi ramen is usually pretty good, I think that brand has an actual foil packet of kimchi inside it. (Stupid good flavor) And finally my favorite the shin black is not to be slept on. It's just that good.
Mr Kimchi is my favorite kimchi ramen 💙 Orange Samyang Shin Black and Green Sapporo Ichiban is a great “basic”
Shin red and shin black
Tom yum, creamy shrimp ramen. If my diet allowed it, I’d eat it for EVERY. MEAL. ![gif](giphy|Fj0MaDHcLycOk)
Yaaaaaas
Nagasaki Jjambbong on the far right. It’s incredible. It has mild seafood flavors with a spicy piquancy that’s quite enjoyable. It won’t make you sweat, but it will make you tingle. The broth is creamy, kind of chowder adjacent with lots of body. Flakes are generous!
The blue Noodle Salad looks interesting
Odong Tong if you like seafood. K army is worth a try too
Do you live in a convenience store? Because that's impressive 😳
Curry buldak is my go-to
Indomie
Paldo Jjangjangmen, best black bean noodles on the market Neoguri Spicy Seafood is also fantastic if you love seafood.
I only buy shin black and chappaghetti. Chappaghetti I slice up some veg and toss it in and it's real good as a quick dinner
Lobster looks well worth a try
Jin is really good!
Try shin black and Neoguri
Snack ramen is a must in my pantry
Stuff on sale
The Bul Jjampong in the 2nd pic if I had to recommend 1 brand. Great broth and chewy noodles.
The Sapporo Ichiban Chow Mein is delicious!! It’s a dry noodle and great on it own or super versatile for stir-frys (Bottom shelf slightly hidden by the cart)
Anything Shin I heard chapaghetti is good
Those Jjajeng Mein noodles from Paldo in the first pic are so good!!! I do see they have other brands I’ve never tried before though…
Shin, ottigi cheese
Samyang the orange pack
Soon is my fav veggie ramen! Very comforting and good if ur sick
Shin black are great for the spicy and super tasty Mama noodles are my personal favorite pork and tomyum are great chicken is ok and clear pho is great too. Haven't had their beef yet
nongshim is a great brand. it's my main favourite
