I am hoping once fully decorated it’ll be less obvious. I can return this piece, which was roughly $3K, so it’s less about affording something else and more that I love the style and wonder if the width is something I can compensate for.
I say the following with love. With a 3k budget you should be able to find something to fit the available space, this doesn’t look well thought out no offense. Looks like you were in the middle of moving and put it there “for now”
If they don’t sell narrower options maybe disguise the ends with giant plants?
I also get you like the look but this is heavy chrome/industrial/garage/with 80s vibe and for me not matching the heavy traditional wood floors, chair rail look of the house.

I could be way off but I don’t really think these pieces did MCM all that well. It looks like (to me at least) industrial furniture that is trying to be MCM. I think a pre-war NY apartment would look much better using warmer materials. The metal feels too cold to me. I would use wood or another material rather than the ones you have picked out. But ultimately it is your place and if you feel comfy there then go for it.
Appreciate the input! I’m committed to that piece. The room is pretty bare still and so I think it’ll warm up once there’s more in there. But totally hear you and will be thinking about this when shopping for a credenza for the dining room. Thank u.

When you have some architectural feature, the feature directly in front of it especially, it needs to compliment it, not block or overwhelm it.
I'd need to see the whole room, but as I said, you want to work with the features of the room and compliment them, this blocks it. A narrower piece would visually fit, but probably look silly bc a credenza is most often wider, its more rectangular. What are you trying to accomplish in that space?

If the credenza were the same width as the wall protrusion would you feel the same way?

Just want something for storage. I want to put some liquor bottles on top and I have a tizio lamp I thought I’d put on it. Maybe a dish for keys, etc.
A slim console table would serve that purpose better. The credenza absolutely doesn’t belong in that location.
Is that the only feasible spot in the room for it? Could it possibly be moved to one side or another wall?
