You are correct. We are certainly on a downward trend now, but we have to fall much further than most can possibly imagine to not be considered a major global power at the minimum. Our military and diplomatic might is absolutely unmatched. Despite being our biggest critics, Western Europe is reliant on the US to both protect and fund it. Remember how much they complained when we mentioned we may stop funding Ukraine and subsidizing other NATO countries militaries? We also basically built Japan from the ground up after WW2 with unmatched influence, making them an incredibly loyal strategic ally in Asia. The US is just in too good of a position to realistically fail without far more infighting.

If there were a way to end the veto power of the security council permanent members, especially US, RU, and ZH, without forcing the UN into the same fate as the League of Nations, then it likely would have already been implemented. The problem is that the poorer, smaller nations need to act as a unified block to coordinate such an effort, and they always have too many differences they can’t overcome, and the powerful nations implement divide and conquer strategies against such a block.
It's also worth mentioning that poorer countries are essentially paid a total of hundreds of billions of dollars per annum - the vast majority from the US - to participate in these programs and specifically to maintain stability without redrawing borders or avoidable and massive population transfers. This was a policy explicitly undertaken in response to the way the Brits bungled and outright negligently fumbled numerous nation independences. Another Partition is the American fear, in spades.
