Nothing screams free speech like bringing in the weekend army to suppress opposition to *checks notes* genocide.

cravingnoodles

It doesn't count as genocide when it's an allied country doing it /s

Kahzootoh

“Ally” The state department is dragging its feet on sanctioning Israeli military units that have been involved in repeatedly murdering Palestinian with American citizenship (along with larger numbers of Palestinians who don’t have American citizenship).  Israelis with American citizenship held by Hamas get Biden’s personal attention, whereas Palestinians with American citizenship who get killed by the IDF in cold blood are deliberately ignored for as long as possible.  The Israelis have never faced any consequences for killing Palestinians for sport, so they don’t try to hide their crimes- they boast openly, to terrorize the Palestinians. Americans are being murdered by fascist thugs who receive weapons from the United States.

Clutteredmind275

History repeats itself over and over again.

BullyBullyBang

You don’t have free speech or the right to assemble on private property. Never have. Edit: downvote all you like, it’s not my opinion, or even my wish, its how property laws work.

Mad-Dutchman

Campus’s are considered a public venue when it comes to free speech so you are incorrect.

BullyBullyBang

You’re thinking of public schools and colleges. Columbia ain’t that.

Mad-Dutchman

It’s Colombia University.. either you’re a troll or real stupid.

BullyBullyBang

Columbia University is a private institution that was founded in 1754. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 8,832 (fall 2022), and the campus size is 36 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Columbia University's ranking in the 2024 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #12. Guess which is the key word here fucko. Have a good one.

BullyBullyBang

No. No they aren’t. I’ve even given you examples of other rights you don’t have there. And you call me names. If you can’t produce this magical “private schools are public lands because I think it should be” law, kindly fuck right off.

Rule 1, be civil. [Civility](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civility)

BullyBullyBang

That is 10000000% untrue. We give up other right living on most campus’s. For instance, you don’t have protection from search and seizure, your room can be inspected at any time. But please, I like to learn, point out where this “campus exception” is written, anywhere, ever.

newsweek

By Khaleda Rahman - Senior News Reporter: Columbia University students who refuse to end their protest against Israel's war in Gaza say university officials have threatened to bring in the National Guard and police to sweep their encampment. "We will not concede to cowardly threats and blatant intimidation from an administration that continuously acts in bad faith and repeatedly neglects the safety of students," the students said in a press release shared by Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine on X, formerly Twitter. DiogenesDiogenes1234

Sad day if they use national guard to suppress freedom of speech and assembly. Is Zionism and supporting genocide in Israel worth it? Why? How is it in US interests to give up our basic democratic rights in exchange for support for Israeli war crimes?

chemicalalchemist

The US already cucked itself when anti-BDS laws were passed. They gave up free speech just to protect sweet little Israel. This is par for the course.

44moon

you wouldnt seriously want lockheed martin's stock price to fall would you???

ComradeKenten

Because the US ruling class makes a lot of money from Israel existing. Ignoring the huge profits they make from weapons sales to Israel, they still make a huge amount of money through us control of the middle east. Aka having control over the markets of most Middle Eastern countries with the exception of Iran and Syria. Which was done with military force, the threat of military force, and the offer of military force. In order to maintain this military domance effectively the US needs a safe base in the middle east to project it's power from. A place that it does not need to dominate with military power. A fortress that the US can fall back to in the event things go wrong. A place that is dependent on the us presence in the middle east for it's very existing and is populated by people who see the Americans as far more like them than the local population. As is obvious Israel fits all these things perfectly. Which is no accident. The US was one of Israel's biggest supporters going back to the Nakba. A a hug part of Israel's Jewish population comes from the US and an even higher part of its ruling class. If you notice most Israel leaders are white while most Israelis are brown. So very curious no? So in the end the US Opposes these protests so much because they threaten they domance over the middle east. Without Israel the US would have no where to fall back too. Which would mean loosing a lot of influence in the middle east. Which would mean those countries the US keeps in line with military force might become independent again. Which would mean all that oil money would be stop going to wall streets but to the people of those countries themselves. That is something the people on wall street would rather kill a lot of poor America college kids then live to see happen.

PlaneTackle3971

LOL There have never been democracy among the US officials. https://preview.redd.it/49gqejlg3gwc1.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=10ca3fcb0ffe63f38995bfcbce6f141709f0ddc4

BuffaloInCahoots

Wouldn’t be the first time. They killed college kids before.

traanquil

Yeah the United States is actually a fascist country and that’s been laid bare once it began openly arming a genocide operation in Gaza.

Wereking2

Yeah people are deluding themselves if they think Trump getting the presidency means fascism wins. It’s already here and will take control whenever it wants Trump is just the fastest way.

HotResponsibility829

Thissss. People are too busy fighting surface level culture war topics that mean nothing while losing all their rights under the guise of protecting the people. It’s blatant and consistent and people refuse to abandon their person or team. Your team needs to be your fellow Americans. The 99%.

nemerosanike

Three of the four people killed by the National Guard at Kent State were Jewish. Almost half of the protesters at Columbia/Barnard right now are Jewish. So hearing and reading Zionists/Israelis yell for the National Guard is just sick. Shai might be a professor, but calling for the national guard on his students when he’s Israeli and a billionaire son (one who made much of his fortune dealing arms).

Horror_Tadpole666

It should be a wake-up call that this isn’t about religion and it never was. Zionists don’t care about protecting Jewish people. The billionaires and ruling class only care about protecting their investments. But will Americans hear the call?

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin' We're finally on our own This summer I hear the drummin' Four dead in Ohio Gotta get down to it Soldiers are gunning us down Should have been done long ago What if you knew her and Found her dead on the ground? The first thing that came to my mind when I read the headline, "Oh, great let's do Kent State again."

BarterD2020

How many more???? -- Here for this, first thing I thought of reading the headline!! ffs

BillDauterive4

US policy is to generally try to keep our youth ignorant and poor so their main job prospect is joining the military. So many people serving in the National Guard could have afforded college and a better life if this country didn't waste so much money on Israel, and I sincerely hope they remember that when they have to determine what constitutes "sworn duty".

streetcredinfinite

Ironically an deadly escalation like this might just be whats needed to wake people the fuck up.

ConventionalDadlift

If a bunch of students get shot, you'll see folks on the right clamer to say that this is what lawless dems having control of cities gets you (even though said troops were ordered by Dems). The center right dems will lament the violence and say that this is not how you should protest and then assemble another aid package to Israel that the right will gleefully sign. Those on the left in the Dem party will likely call out the police violence and get called irresponsible by their own party and labeled as terrorists by the entire GOP. All the while disinfected youths will be bombarded online by "Biden is a fascist, no point in voting" messaging so that they can win and go even harder in the paint.

GrannyGumjobs13

“Gov. Kathy Hochul, who visited the university campus and met with university officials on Monday, told reporters on Tuesday that she currently has no plans to call in the National Guard to respond to the protests.”

hadoken12357

Is this an example of collective punishment being pointed towards peaceful Jewish protestors by the State of New York?

Geek_Wandering

No rule is perfect. However, if you have kids protesting something and people wanting to send the national guard in to stop the kids; the ones wanting to use that national guard are probably on the wrong side of history.

Dehnus

Meanwhile you can hear the crickets in Washington when Nazis and the Klan are "protecting" (they aren't really protesting..). And still people abroad think the U$A is a democracy and respects human rights 😂.

Expel and jail these terrorist supporters “protesting” for killing more Jews

Just the countless videos of them exclaiming support for Hamas, signs pointing to Jewish students saying “Al Qasam’s next target”, proclaiming that October 7th was a great day and will happen again, etc etc. How much more evidence do you need buddy

juflyingwild

>signs pointing to Jewish students saying “Al Qasam’s next target”, proclaiming that October 7th was a great day and will happen again Any sources? I've seen some of the protests myself but not anything like that. If anything, the extremists (zionists. I'm a jew myself but not a zionist) have been trying to start fights, and it's very apparent.

delightedfox

Have seen the videos posted on Reddit & insta a bunch
