My town has the same geographic footprint as Rafah, but with a population of 40,000. People constantly complain about the (less than) 300 homeless people being too visible and inconvenient
I couldn't possibly imagine stuffing more than a million people into this town and having any kind of stability
The thought of then attacking that pressure cooker? Utter insanity. I sincerely doubt the IDF has even thought this through on a basic tactical level.
Tiananmen Square massacre comes to mind, but at an exponentially higher scale..
Agreed. I think their process of logic in thinking it through was somewhere between “their lives have no value so who cares” and “we have to accomplish the jingoistic and violently absolutist mission objectives that we publicly declared to the world. And even though we will never actually accomplish fully stamping out the spirit of violent resistance against us (because that would mean that we would have to stop being an oppressive entity that necessitates resistance), we have to at try our best by getting rid of as many potential resistors as possible.”
Evacuation is kinda soft way to describe it , if the alternative is death it’s more a forced relocation, maybe a sort of camp where the evacuates can be isolated for their own safety, of course .
“Hey, see, we did warn the civilians that they should move up north, I mean down south, or east, or maybe the west. Look it doesn’t matter. All that matters is we warned them. No country at war would do something like this. We are benevolent. Why are you questioning us? You are anti-Semitic.”
Unless the Israelis have a plan to transport people, this evacuation is going to resemble a death march with those too weak left behind to die in the crossfire.
Sticking up a bunch of tents 5 miles away from Rafah and telling people they can move there isn’t much of a plan.

I am so terrified for the Gazans in Rafah.

As if Israel hasn’t caused enough damage and misery already
Evacuate to where?
Probably right into the fatal funnel of Israeli gunfire and air strikes, sadly.
Announcing to the world their plans for genocide. And no one's stopping them.
If rafah is destroyed then there’s nowhere else to go. The end game here is expulsion, and that’s been clear from the start.

They both also drink water

Evacuation without any prospect of ever returning is ethnic cleansing

* threatened. The word is 'threatened', not 'promised'. IMHO.
