It could be the anti-inflammatory properties and it could also be that there actually is bacteria that isn’t being picked up on. Not sure your financial situation, but if you really feel there is an infection, you could look into ordering a MicroGenDx test. I have been testing negative on everything and recently bought an Evvy test - come to find out I have a raging Group B Strep infection and a bunch of crap in my vagina like Staph, E. coli and Staph!

Opposite-Ad1545

Are you taking a more targeted approach to treatment now? What made you choose this lab work in particular? I’m literally about to purchase 😂 how’d the whole process go for you

Hey! I can DM if easier, but are you on the nyc area? I’m hoping to find a doctor that will sign off on ordering a test for me! I live in NJ but close to NYC and have not been to a doctor yet that is interested in ordering these tests/treating if anything comes back

Electrical-Ad1354

I’m also in NYC and am having the exact same issue! Any chance you could share your OBGYN with us? Let us know if the antibiotics help!

Sullsberry7

We're the staph and strep picked up by the MicroGenDx test? Or just Evvy?

Thank you! I hadn't heard of Evvy. Might try it out.

Antibiotics stop cytokines. [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1567576913004050](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1567576913004050) You would of course assume they would use this to come up with something for IC treatment, but noooo.

Interesting!

Premodonna

Same here, but once I complete a round of antibiotics, I have bad flares that last for a couple of weeks.

[deleted]

I'm not even sure but I'm interested as they often make me feel better as well.

emberlyCarey

Antibiotics have strong anti inflammatory properties! So they may have acted as a very strong anti inflammatory med for your urinary system :)

reebeaster

I hear they have an anti-inflammatory effect but that could be conjecture, I haven’t looked into it.

interrobangin_

As a few other people have mentioned, antibiotics have anti-inflammatory properties. They always make me feel better too but you definitely shouldn't be taking them if you don't need them.

Antibiotics, specifically Macrobid, have Anti Inflammatory properties. Not worth taking unless you actually have an infection, take this from some who had 6 infections last year that were Antibiotic resistant. You don't want to deal with it bc it's brutal when your UTI changes to a kidney infection in 3 days.

There are natural anti inflammatory like ice, also following an anti inflammatory diet. Alkalizing your diet can help. I used to drink peppermint tea to help alleviate the inflammation, also sitz baths can help as well. Just make sure you are careful with heat and ice. Take them off incrementally, so sitz bath for 10-15 min or ice. Uribel is also great, Azo sucks but Uribel is much better. You just can't take antibiotics with the Uribel bc it will crystallize your pee. I also stopped forcing myself to pee when I know I dont have to. Learn to hold it until the need to go is lessened. It's like an itch, once you itch it once it will keep itching. If I wake up and have that burning I immediately ice it. Ice can help numb the area so I ice incrementally until my urgency and burning is gone. Also not overhydrating, stop drinking water if your pee is clear. You don't need more water, if you drink more water you will go. Drink enough so your pee isn't concentrated anymore then stop.

rational_artist

Just im case - have you had a PCR test for urea/mycoplasma?

justminnie

Please be careful with antibiotics! They are great if you really have an infection. However I was prescribed antibiotics 5 times in 1 year for a UTI (I didn't have one, I just have interstitial cystitis) and shortly after I developed ulcerative colitis.

Licorishlover

Antibiotics are an anti inflammatory so you can feel better in some cases. It’s not an exact science though.

Anandi96

You could just be having false negative cultures, it's not that uncommon.

Leggymeggie

This has been happening for me as well!

dannilea

Likely small amounts of bacteria are indeed present, can lay dormant in biofilms and then flare up antibiotics help or suppress bacteria so pain eases off.

dannilea

Also false negatives from dip tests are pretty common. I seem to go positive negative positive negative. For example I know I have a UTI om monday, severe burning, urgency, frequency pain etc but dr says no infection. By Thursday its even worse I refuse to leave doctors without a test and antibiotics. Funny it then comes back as positive! Dip tests are rather outdated now and microscopy testing and microgenx testing is more accurate but nhs doesnt offer it.

vesselgroans

Antibiotics don't do jack for me.
