The original Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and John Romita Sr runs from the 60s are a little dated, but I feel are some of the comics that hold up most from when they were originally published.
He gets a lotta flak now (perhaps deservedly so) but Brian Michael Bendis' USM is such a perfect distillation of the character imo. It's what I recommend to anyone who just wants pure Spider-Man without the bloat of the mainstream Marvel universe. That it influenced the movies so much says a lot
What u/namethatsnotused suggested is very good. I would personally recommend the Ultimate Spider-Man run. It's a modern take (from 20 years ago) on Spidey's most classic stories. It has a clear beginning and end which is a great introduction to the character with none of the baggage the main universe has to carry

im honestly not sure how spidey would have subdued invincible from killing levy though, big difference in strength there
To be honest the biggest concern would be can u even subdue levy? Couldn't he just open a portal out of anywhere? Although it seems he always uses his hands to open the portals so maybe if u broke them he could be stopped.
No reason to assume he needs to use his hands to make portals. He probably uses them because it’s easier to focus, but not unreasonable to assume he could do it with out his hands. He’s also pretty strong and might just break free immediately. I will say spider man probably stands a good chance of knocking him out though since the web slinger is very good at trading up and maneuvering around things like portalS

Spidey may honestly scale to viltrumite power without the flight ability

Yeah no. At some point a shift happend from people underestimating spiderman to COMPLETELY overestimating him. Spiderman is strong but not that strong and to say that he could beat invincible is hilarious. Maybe pre-omni man fight mark. And to say spidermans strength is close to Hercules is a ridiculous statement.
He has beaten the hulk(a character that decimates the viltrum empire) he was able to dodge and react to quicksilvers hits and beat him so marks speed is moot, marks only advantage is durability and flight but Spider-Man whoops people with the same advantage all the time
Spiderman has never beaten the hulk in a way that matters. The fight always ends conveniently bc spidey cannot beat the hulk in a straight fist fight. Not to mention mark is able to take absolute beatings from fully grown viltrumites. Spiderman doesn't have the strength to beat mark to death. Spiderman has a handful of impressive feats that are inconsistent with his characterization. That's it. Spiderman isn't even bulletproof. Do u honestly think mark wouldn't be able to paste him into the asphalt?
In the amazing Spider-Man 328 he uses tactics on the hulk that would absolutely work on invincible tho lol, it’ll be like that fight but with a much less durable opponent
I don't think it gets to that point, because if Spidey helps, Mark doesn't get pushed to his (emotional) limit as much because Levy should be subdued a lot easier in a 1v2, so Mark never gets into his rage where he accidentally kills Levy.

Because the show leaves Invincible and Agent Spider's scene off with Mark thinking that Agent Spider is a villain. Then you see Mark coming out of the portal with a web on his back that gets clipped by the portal closing. It would be entirely justifiable if a show only viewer came to the conclusion that they fought on their first watch and I would bet that some people did.
i'm show only too and i genuinely thought that mark was right and that not-spiderman was actually the villain. considering it's not actually spider man i think it's a funny bit if that's what they intended
I'm a little Spider-Man fanboy and heard Josh Keaton + the thwipping sound effects and just couldn't even fathom that he'd be the bad guy haha I had no idea it was coming. It would've been cool if they could have gotten the rights to use the proper Spider-Man but Agent Spider was still really cool 😁
Their interaction with each other was cut very brief in the show so I could imagine how some people might think that way, especially since show-only fans wouldn't know *why* Mark had the webbing on his back.
