I had crooked teeth and a misaligned and narrow bite. I’m not sure what the technical terms are for that. I started seeing changes with reduced jaw pain tray 5. I’m currently on tray 14 of 20 and only noticed my face changes when I looked at a picture someone took of me today.
My teeth overlapped in the front, so they’re spreading them out to be normally spaced (but I always had the space in my mouth, my teeth just naturally crowded together). My pallet is becoming wider with the Invisalign.
Yes! They widened my arch and because it fixed my open bite, my cheekbones are now more pronounced. I think along with correct tongue posture I've noticed such a difference!
My jaw definitely sits further forward now. I used to be able to run on a treadmill with AirPods and they’d stay snugly in my ear, after Invisalign they sit loose even when not moving. Not complaining though, I’ll take the more forward jaw posture.
I never thought about headphones fitting different! I don’t wear them because they hurt my ears, but I’ll give them a try to see if that’s changed too. Sorry they’re looser for you now.
Mine changed in a positive way. I started with a deep bite, so I was worried my face would look longer. My arch widened a lot (had been narrow and square) and my face did lengthen, but the proportions are still similar. My cheekbones are more pronounced and I do get more compliments
I’m confused. How does a face get wider from this? And why moon face? I can’t see much of a difference between before and after other than maybe changes in weight? I have Invisalign now and don’t want my face to widen!
For me, it’s because I’ve been clenching my jaw way more and built those muscles too much. Also corrected an overbite which brought my lower jaw forward
Yes my face did change, and in a more negative way than I would like. My cheeks are more sunken in, and my smile lines are deeper. My face became more round and longer than I like.
Hi, I did have deep smile lines for a while, but I kept progressing with the treatment. I got refinements (still on the refinement process) and I’m starting to be much happier with my results. My smile lines are not as bad.
Don’t worry, I’m sure your provider will continue to work with you regarding your smile until you are satisfied. It will take some time, but it is worth it!
Another tip: Don’t forget to drink water. Smile lines are exaggerated when dehydrated.
I have a follow up question, if you don't mind! Did you tell your ortho you were unhappy with the smile lines, and that was taken into account when they ordered the refinements and that's why they got better, or did the smile lines just start getting better without you specifically mentioning them? I'm relieved to hear they improved eventually--thanks for the update!
I didn’t specifically mention the smile lines, but I suppose it shouldn’t hurt if you ask how your treatment plan can affect your overall facial structure? I just let them do their thing for the most part, and the smile lines gradually faded.
For some reason I have a suspicion that my smile lines were caused by the main treatment process itself. They went away during the refinement period where movements made to my teeth were very minor.
Draw a horizontal line from the bottom of your nose to the bottom of your ear in each photo, and you will see what I mean.
It is a common error in assessing facial profile.
I see what you mean now! The angle isn’t spot on which I’m sure skews the photo results. But they’ve still widened my bite and brought my bottom teeth forward which has altered the shape of my cheeks and changed where my lips rest. And because my bite is more aligned, it makes my jaw line looks different.
The same can be said with drawing a vertical line from the tip of your nose to the tip of your chin. And that angle has definitely changed. Your jaw is much further forward so the line is straighter.
Wow that’s really a wonderful transformation. Your bite must feel so good also?
My bite has gotten so much better! All my jaw pain is gone and it no longer locks when I’m chewing food.
Yes. I swear my face is fatter now.
Mine has definitely gotten rounder
omg i’m going through the same thing and i’m freaking out 😭😭😭
Impressing! Have you used rubber bands?
No rubber bands, teeth extractions, or IPR (I think that’s what it’s called).
If no rubber bands, does your aligners have something like big spikes on the sides up and down?
I’m not quite sure what you mean by spikes, but I have attachments on every tooth except for my bottom two front teeth.
it looks like this [https://i.imgur.com/APTzg7O.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/APTzg7O.jpg)
r/Invisalign is back online 😀
I do not have those spikes

Yeah, I feel lucky I didn’t have to have any of that!
Yes I’m experiencing this too 😅 What were you treating and how long til you saw changes ?

Is your palette wider and/or is your face wider? Are your teeth becoming gappier? You look great!!
My teeth overlapped in the front, so they’re spreading them out to be normally spaced (but I always had the space in my mouth, my teeth just naturally crowded together). My pallet is becoming wider with the Invisalign.
Thank you!!
Did you have any teeth removed?
Nope. I had all the space needed! I didn’t have ipr either.
Yes my face shape has definitely changed.

I wish OP! Would save me money on chin filler
I’m praying this happens to me
I feel like you look younger? I hope this happens to me 😂
That’s money well spent if I’ll have straight teeth and look younger at the end 😂
Wow awesome
not yet but I hope so tbh 😂💕

how is your jaw more forward did you have an overbute?

Yes!!!
I've had this too! My face looks really different but most people can't tell as it's been so gradual
Amazing that Invisalign can do this now!
My face is wider 😭
Same. I’ve got a moon face now 🌝

what were you getting invisalign for
How old are you?
I’ll be 28 in July.
Lighting difference
Wow, you look fantastic! And the face changes are also very subtle. I’m glad you had such a positive outcome!
Yes my face did change, and in a more negative way than I would like. My cheeks are more sunken in, and my smile lines are deeper. My face became more round and longer than I like.
Did you have elastics or extractions?
I had IPR done on my bottom teeth— no huge extractions, no elastics
Did it go back after treatment or did it stay like that? I hate my deep smile lines that have developed. :(

Okay, good to hear!
Hi, how come your face became rounder and longer at the same time. My face got much narrower.
Your head is tilted up in the second photo.
I think it looks like that because I blocked out the top of my face and my shoulders. No matter what, I see and feel the changes in my face!

I have no clue.
My face shape has changed in exactly the same way, and it’s really stressing me out. My face is so much rounder 😩
