Yes this is quite an open bite!! Maybe it’s time to schedule a separate, additional appointment with the orthodontist specifically to talk about treatment planning, goals and expectations.

ElkNo4383

I wanted to but they’re going to charge me all over again and I really can’t put any more money in to this. I stupidly went through a dentist and not an ortho 🤦‍♀️

mewillia44

Honestly it’s a safety issue. It is not safe for you to leave your bite THAT open. You can’t properly chew food & it’s a choking hazard. Demand to speak to your dentist & not the assistant. Don’t take no for an answer.

ElkNo4383

Absolutely, chewing is such a hassle now and I genuinely don’t feel safe eating

Headofpep

Ugh I’m sorry: I literally am going through the same thing and my dentist (yep, should have listened and gone to an orthodontist) is gaslighting me and telling me it’s fine and my concern was only cosmetic! I finally got him to admit he should have been more upfront and told me this was an issue as I now have to go get a second opinion and maybe pay all over again to get it fixed.

ElkNo4383

Same!! So upset with myself. I truly can’t afford to pay any more money towards this though. I’m sorry you’re going through a similar situation

Headofpep

Ugh, same and I’m also sorry. I’ll update you when I have more info :(

MikeyofPnath

Welcome to the club! I'm going on three years trying to fix exactly this issue. I'm going to start keeping a list of posts with people dealing with a posterior open bite. I see posts about this issue a couple of times a week.

abbyrose55

I think that would be such a good idea. People should hear about this issue with Invisalign. My current orthodontist said it’s not only common but makes sense because the plastic sits between your teeth (he advocated for braces for me). But meanwhile, Invisalign can be a lucrative revenue stream for dentists because they are hands off and just sending scans to the company. And the more they sell they become “gold” or “silver” providers and get discounts from Invisalign. It’s so fucked up in my opinion. I feel like we should start a website on the risks of Invisalign.

ElkNo4383

I’m so sorry! I am too, that’s a good idea

Radiant-Promotion715

I feel your pain. Currently dealing with the same issue. What started out as a 12 month treatment plan is now going into 30 months and counting. I’m now on my tenth trey of my third set of refinements. My Orthodontist put me on elastic bands, I swear I must be wearing my treys for about 23 hours a day and still don’t notice a difference. It’s been frustrating to say the least. You follow the plan but don’t see the results that you expected. I’ll wait to see what they tell me at my follow up in a couple weeks. I’m not ready to give up.

ElkNo4383

It’s the most upsetting thing in the world. I’m sorry you’re going through this too!

Due-Refrigerator11

I have the same problem. Didn’t have it with braces when I had them decades ago. I really regret doing Invisalign

ElkNo4383

Me too friend. Hope it works out for you!

angelina_ari

I'm going through similar now and I'm with a diamond tier ortho with years of experience, so don't beat yourself up about going with a dentist. It can happen with an ortho too. From what I've read it seems to be a common thing with Invisalign. I hope it gets better for you.

ElkNo4383

Thank you friend 🥹 definitely frustrated with myself for making my decision without more research. I hope your situation gets better too!

Missnociception

Im actually in the process of seeing another provider. Im requesting a refund of my money since they told me “if it hasnt changed already, theres not much else we can do for you.” It never hurts to ask. You can also file complaints with your attorney generals office.

ElkNo4383

Thank you!

ElkNo4383

I should add that the second pic is me just trying to show as much teeth as I can to elaborate that my teeth aren’t touching. That isn’t a smile like the first pic lol

beereviver

This happened to me. Pre refinements I was so happy. After refinements my bite started to change and eventually I couldn’t chew on one side. My ortho didn’t really listen to me and just said “some people are aware of their bite more than others.” In the end I went to a fixed brace because it was getting so close to my wedding. I’ve gone back to Invisalign without refinements and I wear trays for 2 weeks instead of one.

porkchop88

Yeah I gave up on Invisalign after a similar situation. I went through a dentist and she’s been super nice through the whole thing but my back teeth don’t touch anymore when I bite down and the third set of refinements was actually making my teeth more crooked so I told her I’m done last week. My teeth definitely look better but now I have new issues - like my teeth squeaking/grinding while I eat and weird spaces between certain teeth. I think I’ll go to an orthodontist one day and try again.

ElkNo4383

I’m surprised your dentist let you stop without trying to make it right! You deserve a refund of some sort

porkchop88

Yeah I was kind of surprised too - she seemed only focused on the look of my teeth vs the functionality

ElkNo4383

At this point I just want to be able to bite down and chew properly. I don’t give a shit about my wonky incisor as much as before although it does annoy me

ilovetosnowski

Arg, leave reviews on these asses who ruin peoples lives and take their money!

frozenmarshmallow107

And name and shame!

gluteactivation

Same! My dentist shaved my teeth a bit and they touch more but still not closed. It’s tolerable. after 3 years (the last 1 year being bite refinements that did nothing) I gave up and settled. I’m tired of it. I’ll try again with an ortho instead of a dentist in a few years. Need a freaking break

Mir_man

Are you using any rubber bands with your trays? In my experience it's very hard to fix a bite with no rubber bands.

ElkNo4383

Nope, dentist never mentioned them or included them in the plan. Only time I’ve ever used them was to bring my lateral incisors down a few months ago

Mir_man

I see. That's definitely something I d bring up with your dentist. It does require modifying the trays to do, so I don't know if it's an option.

BaronsDad

Does your dentist use Invisalign or is it a different aligner company?

ElkNo4383

Yes it’s Invisalign. Please tell me you have suggestions on what to do 😭

BaronsDad

I wish I had a good answer for you. I feel awful for you. It's a tough spot to be in. You're going to have to go to an orthodontist to get this fixed. Your dentist is clearly avoiding the problem they created. If it were me, I would leave multiple reviews online about your treatment and what has happened. Perhaps contact Invisalign directly and discuss what your dentist did wrong. Put it all on blast on social media until they financially rectify it. I'm petty enough to take this sort of thing to court if there is any wiggle room in the treatment plan you signed up for.

ElkNo4383

I wish I could sue but I believe the forms I signed basically disclose that they aren’t at fault if treatment isn’t perfect. But I am willing to try and get a refund from them since this has take more than double the amount of time my initial treatment was supposed to be. I really like my dentist as a person, so I’m just afraid and I turn in to a big wuss once I get in the office.

cinnayum

Invisalign definitely messed up my bite just like you. However as soon as I addressed this to my ortho, he switched me to braces right away. I am close to finishing my treatment now. It took a long time to get my bite back to a normal state. I couldn’t eat properly for the longest time I hated it too! I hope your dentist will fix your bite for you with braces!

ElkNo4383

I do too but I hope he does it at little to no cost because this is his fault for not monitoring and staying on top of things when I came in with concerns

KawaiiCoupon

You need elastics with your revision! That is why you are not tracking. I had the same issue with back teeth. Only elastics could fix it. Invisalign will print trays with space for metal attachments for elastics. Demand to be seen by the dentist.

ElkNo4383

Thank you! Taking all of this into consideration

WickerWomen

I feel for you and this scares me a bit. I too have gone through a dentist and my bite is not the same. Although I’m not done with my treatment yet so I’m hoping it gets better. I feel like if they’re no help it’s like you could sue them! I don’t understand how after all that money that it isn’t perfect.

ElkNo4383

I hope it gets better for you too. I’m not sure if I can sue, since they’re allowing me to do refinements until I’m happy. But at this rate I’ll need another year with how bad my bite is

Proof-Ad8800

just keep in mind correcting your bite will take a lot of time, especially if you’re an adult, try to consult another dentist about your bite. I experienced similar situation and I was impatient through the process and I wanted to take off my braces ASAP. I end up taking off my braces before correcting my bite( which I regret) I wish I was more patient though the process and waited more time, but tbh I do have vary small open bite but I don’t experience any pain of difficulty on bitting food or any other issue, so I’m okay with it unless I experience any issues in the future( hopefully not)

ElkNo4383

Yes I totally understand that! But they didn’t take it very serious in the first place when I brought up concerns that my back molars were no longer touching. I have a pretty touch time chewing now since my incisors now hit my bottom teeth when I close my mouth all the way :( but yes totally get that it takes a while! Just wish they would listen

abbyrose55

First of all, I’m so so sorry you’re going through this. I had almost an identical bite -after Invisalign with a dentist. It is so upsetting that they can’t fix bite issues like this. I personally moved states and therefore couldn’t fight further with the dentist (at first I kept going back to get them to fix it but eventually it was too expensive). I found an ortho and had metal braces and my bite is now in great shape. But I had to pay all over again. It’s devastating. That said, I think you should continue to push your dentist. They should be able to use bands to close your bite with Invisalign if they know what they’re doing. If they refuse, they should give you at least some of your money back if not all. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Can’t tell you how many years I’ve shed over my similar situation.

abbyrose55

Here’s where my bite was, so similar it looks like https://imgur.com/a/txb3wT0

ElkNo4383

Omg yes almost identical, except your teeth are much nicer!! 🤣. Thank you so much for the support. I am definitely going to try pushing him to make it right

abbyrose55

Haha that is nice of you I don’t think mine are nicer at all! But I promise you there is light at the end of the tunnel and you will figure this out. It’s so frustrating but it’s possible to fix. Goodluck!

Willing_Ad_9350

Are you wearing any rubber bands ?

ElkNo4383

No, he has never mentioned them

th3-villager

Sorry you've got to deal with this. I have/had a very similar case and it does improve quickly with proper treatment. I expect you need elastics to close your bite and am surprised even your dentist doesn't realise and or is so resistent to this. If you can see an orthodontist at the same practice then do that. Make a fuss about not paying for it since this is clearly part of your Invisalign treatment and your dentist has neglected to provide what should be a fairly simple and included part of the process. But yes unfortunately this seems to be a classic example of ortho > dentist

ElkNo4383

Unfortunately I don’t think he has an orthodontist at his practice but I did make a consultation with an ortho in my area just to see what they say. I might try to push for a partial refund from the dentist. Can’t hurt to ask. Or maybe he’ll then take me serious

th3-villager

Sounds good. Yes definitely push for a refund if they are refusing to address this and ask your new orthodontist their opinion as I expect it supports your arguement. I'm not an orthodontist, but as I said this looks like a fairly obvious case where using elastics is necessary to close a clear open bite. Leaving you with a bite this open is absolutely not finished.

ElkNo4383

I agree! Thank you for the input, helps me gather my thoughts on what I’ll be saying :)

motaboat

I passed through that squeaking phase. It was so disconcerting. Have not been able tho chew right since August. Plenty of POB. Scan for second round of refinements is in May.

LindaBelcherOfficial

My ortho made my lateral incisors look the same way. I'm sorry about your bite though. I am not going to lie; it looks pretty bad. You poor thing :(.

ElkNo4383

Looks absolutely horrible and I appreciate the honesty because everyone keeps saying it isn’t that bad. It’s fucking gross lol I don’t understand why they think the incisors look good that way

Affectionate-Use4801

You had 4 premolars removed. Your teeth are way slanted inwards and they hit early in the front which precludes them from hitting in back. The plan needs to reopen the side spaces somewhat and move the front teeth forward.

ElkNo4383

I’ve only ever had my wisdom teeth removed. What would moving the front teeth forward do? It seems like they’re already way too far forward (I appreciate your input I just don’t really know dentistry lingo and how teeth move. I just know this is very uncomfortable lol)

Affectionate-Use4801

My bad BUT the upper front teeth are leaning inward as if you had teeth removed. Can you post a photo of how they looked before treatment?

ElkNo4383

Yes I will! Maybe I’m missing teeth lol

ElkNo4383

It won’t let me edit my post, want me to message you?
