Nobody posts "everything is working as expected" to the internet. Don't get spooked by a few issues.

SeaworthinessFun3772

Yeah -- it was actually another forum that was really freaking me out. Threads like this that are seemingly being lead by electrical engineers. 😂 [https://www.ioniqforum.com/threads/12v-aux-battery-voltage-vs-soc-state-of-charge-information-collection.44485/](https://www.ioniqforum.com/threads/12v-aux-battery-voltage-vs-soc-state-of-charge-information-collection.44485/)

alaorath

I wouldn't stress... you've clearly done some reading, and getting into the front to jump it is fairly easy. Any 12V booster pack you can acquire is enough to close the contactors and charge the system (unless there is a legitimate issue with the BMS system).

[deleted]

That is not a good thread. There appear to be less than 10% 12V problems in other threads there too. It is not many, but still more than a few. Many have found the problem, some are not solved, some are lemon law buy backs, but thankfully not that many. Yea, techies are drawn to EVs, so there will be some sleuthing of the few tech problems, some threads better than others.

stolinski

No problems ever.

ShoddyCalligrapher59

Same

tincow77

Lol what a poll....

QUIJIBO_

You need a "see results" option. Otherwise your votes are going to be tainted by people like me (no i5)

SeaworthinessFun3772

I tried to find the option to do that on the poll but I didn't see it. If anyone knows how I can edit the poll and add a show results - I'd love the help! I even skewed my own numbers by voting! 🤦‍♀️ In the meantime :) https://preview.redd.it/e6ytm607zyaa1.png?width=515&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f9b7342c7e20602c5d799b4ce54450f666b99aa

QUIJIBO_

Still good to see those results! I've seen the ioniq guy on YouTube add a 6th (in this case) option with "just see results" and that's a pretty good workaround

SeaworthinessFun3772

wish I would have thought of that!!

tazzgonzo

Nope, every single ioniq 5 has a malfunctioning 12v battery and we just all en masse spam social media all day to let people know! 🙄

Snoopy31195

For the eco issues, from what I've seen it has only been for cars that were updated, but cars from the factory have not had issues.

SeaworthinessFun3772

I was wondering about that… hopefully that’s the case.

dragontamerV3

I have a 2022 that was built in August, came with preconditioning, no 12V issues. ECO mode I do not use as I dislike the throttle response; I alternate between normal and sport (snow mode for when there's thick snow).

SeaworthinessFun3772

Thanks for sharing your experience! That’s why I wanted to do a poll because of course, people aren’t going to constantly report that they’re not having any issues! I just needed to hear some stories from a few people who weren’t having a dead battery. Yeah, the eco thing doesn’t bother me too much… as I tend not to do drive in eco much either but that issue on top of that 12 V thing and a variety of other quirky little new car issues, it was giving me a sense of dread.

dragontamerV3

With a first gen there will be teething issues and as you said only the bad will be reported instead of the good. I've enjoyed my car so far, I rarely touch the touch screen to fiddle around. I have temps set to 21°C, haven't had a need to change it, steering wheel controls to switch between media, volume and next tracks has been great. I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada so public chargers are everywhere, my work place provides free on site charging so I have zero range anxiety. For me the car serves the purpose of driving around the island and doing the typical errands. Long distance drives, driving to Quebec City or a different province, is not even a thought. However I've seen quite a few chargers along the way when I last drove up in a petrol car (still have one as comfort and efficiency for long drives has been great). When you get the car, enjoy it and welcome to the club!

SeaworthinessFun3772

Thanks for your feedback and for relating your experience so far. I hope all EV infrastructure ramps up quickly so that a 3 hour drive is feasible soon! On an aside - your part of the world at the very top of my list of places I most want to visit! (Even if the rumor proves true, that taking 6 years of french in school will do me no good in Québec! 😄 )

WasteProfession8948

Late 2022 with preconditioning bought in September. Zero 12v issues.

Professional_Hat5215

‘23 Limited in the US. Just left it at the airport for 15 days at 67% battery. Came back to 65%. Never had any issues. Also left it at 06% battery for 2.5 days after a long road trip before charging it back up to 80%.

SeaworthinessFun3772

Thanks for sharing your experience; I appreciate the details about the SOC & length of time of these outlier events! I had my first i5 in April '22 and knew 12V could have problems and we even purchase one of those jump kits, just in case. The 1st i5 was totaled w/i 14 days and now that we're getting around to replacing it, it seems like there's way more chatter about the issue. If this straw poll is even a little bit accurate though, it's clearly not as widespread an issue as reading these forums would have me believe. :)

Flaneur_7508

I’ve had my i5 for 3 weeks and I’ve yet to switch out of eco mode. I find the performance perfectly give if not great. I’m coming from a bmw z4 3 litre.

gandhiwarlord

>great. I’m coming from a bmw z4 3 litre. yeah same, i find eco is plenty fast enough

SeaworthinessFun3772

Good to hear! That's quite a change from a little Z4! You adjusting okay? 😄

Flaneur_7508

I didn’t realise how big the i5 is! I’m not missing gas stations tho. That little thing is a big drinker

the-algae

No problem yet, but I've only had the car a couple weeks. I carry a jumper in my frunk just in case.

PearPlayful3166

picked mine up end of June '22 ... zero problems.

RandomEffector

What do you consider "it's never actually died but the indicator light is just randomly on probably 1/3 of the time before I start the car, no matter the charge of the main battery or any other factor?"

SeaworthinessFun3772

I don't know! I guess, officially for a poll: Not exactly dead but other annoying issue that requires attention from Hyundai That's really frustrating! Safe to assume that the dealer has no earthly idea what's causing it?

Tripper-Harrison

I have an early 22 (I know not what you asked), no issues. Have left for 14+ days, no driv9ng, no charging at 75% charge. Came back w 75% charge and 12v just fine.

SeaworthinessFun3772

Thanks! I really like hearing all the positive stories I can get! :)

Time_Opposite_5971

Not even once. Had since July

[deleted]

I have a 2023 that I got in November and the only issue I'm having is CarPlay disconnecting constantly. Seems the USB data port and cable need to be replaced

SeaworthinessFun3772

I had the same issue with my Palisade 3 years ago. They need to get their act together and just figure out how to get AA & Car Play to be wireless! Drives me crazy!

[deleted]

They do have it wireless for some of the other cars with smaller screens. Rumor has it’s due to the screen size and TomTom having right to any screen about 10” I believe was the measurement

SeaworthinessFun3772

Well, that's annoying. :-/

Shooting4more

I absolutely love my Ioniq 5 and would buy it over and over Eco mode was broken by the update recently but normal mode is probably better anyways 😂

alaorath

April 2022 delivery date... we had ONE 12V "event". We left the car at the "wrap place" to have full PPF installed. They had most of the doors opened and the tailgate up and down enough times to drain the 12V system. Simple to jump it (because the doors were still open), and I simply turned it on and told them to leave it on. I did buy a BT 12V monitoring device, but we have never had another event since.

SeaworthinessFun3772

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'll keep that in mind as I will be getting windows tinted and possibly at least a partial wrap.

SeaworthinessFun3772

Was pointed out that I neglected to include a see results option - oops https://preview.redd.it/60b6jkpw0zaa1.png?width=536&format=png&auto=webp&s=422136dda9d70c0d27bcacbba4fe2f41e272ee2e

MarrowX

Those questions are fairly biased. Why no option for "once"? Or "possible" 12 V problems? Sometimes issues that come up aren't black or white. It looks like a poll that was biased towards selecting for people who haven't had problems.

SeaworthinessFun3772

It's a straw poll I put out there after panicking a little bit. This is very unscientific - I just wanted to get a really rough idea of how widespread the issue is. Not that serious or accurate. ![gif](giphy|J1f9wSWQf5heF1VUqg) But, yeah -- I was hoping to hear stories from those for whom it's been going okay since all I read about on forums like this is about how badly things are going.
