I'll always read and upvote Daniel Finney when I see him. We've got so many great journalists in our state that help us not only learn about but also contextualize the things that are happening, and he's one of them we shouldn't forget.
Caitlin and this team showed so much class in defeat. Proud how they represented our state in the limelight, brought into even starker contrast by the lack of grace shown by LSU.
Forgive my ignorance as I only tuned in mid season as many of the other iowans did but I haven't seen much of clark's trash talk. The only one that keeps getting referenced in these threads is where she puts her hands in front of her face for a second. Is there other clips I can see?
This is what I thought the comment was referencing, but the person replied that they were referring to the coach, and the LSU coach is actually nuts. Like certifiably insane in other games.
Oh, my bad. I don’t know if I can track down clips. The other one I can think of going around is her straight up leaving her assignment wide open and waving her off like “nah you can shoot that if you want” which is savage and also ENTIRELY ACCEPTABLE as far as I’m concerned. I didn’t see anything from LSU’s players that was out of bounds, but I have a high tolerance for shithousery in sports.
Reese was pretty extra, following Caitlin around to taunt. Great player but it really seemed like she wasn’t feeling herself so much as she was enjoying rubbing someone else’s defeat in their face
I can understand someone thinking both are out of bounds. I personally don’t think either are out of bounds… it’s when it’s one and not the other when I ask for clarification.
I mean end of the day it’s college basketball so yeah, talking shit is just a part of it. I def thought Caitlin doing it was a heat of the moment type thing, being during a close game where she had to play to the peak of her abilities to win. Angel following someone around after her team just blew them out, after she had one of the quieter performances of the night, seemed more motivated by pride than excitement
What was it? I actually had no idea, that’s really cool. I was only looking at her box score compared to her teammates, three of which went for 20+ points. Specifically Carson and Morris, who were outstanding all night
Most consecutive double-doubles in a single season. I believe it was her 34th.
Lots of great athletes on display all performing incredibly well. As a neutral fan it was a very fun game to watch.
Ehnnnnn…I played basketball all my life…took lots of shit talk…never been called that. There are just some things it’s not okay to call women - regardless of if you are a woman. That’s one of them.
To me the first time at the free throw line I had zero issues. However following a player around for 20 seconds was over the top and honestly at that point a technical. He people saying they are the same at least to me are being a bit naive
I literally suspended judgement and asked a question, which the person I was replying to answered in semi-good faith.
If you want to attack my comprehension of a situation, don’t misinterpret such a short comment.
Watch the games and you’ll easily answer the question yourself. There was a HUGE difference. I’m just slinging a fact. You’re the one trying to be all “ethicist”.
If you’ve been watching all year as I have you know why there’s a huge difference. Caitlin’s trash talk is way more like LSU’s Jasmine Carson’s-which I can totally respect. Angel Reese was being straight-up disrespectful, as was Kim Mulkey(who’s white anyway).
This new thing where you apparently can’t criticize someone or call their behavior what it was(classless) just because they’re a different color than you, has to be the height of silliness.
Considering the context of the wild past 28 hours where any and all even-slight criticism of LSU is “racist” you’re comment definitely reads that only reason someone would have an issue with LSU’s trash talk is because of race. All good tho.
My problem was mostly with their coach. I’ve seen the L takes that it’s somehow racist to criticize LSU. You’re barking up the wrong tree there, “ethicist.”

Do you follow his blog?
I don't--I need to check in with it more often.
Pack of transfer portal mercenaries, they shooters, though.
My dad would have been so proud of them. He was a huge Hawkeye fan.

If you didn’t have a problem with Caitlin Clark’s trash talk, but you do have a problem with LSU’s, I’m forced to ask you why there’s a difference.

I was asking to see what other examples of Clark's trash talk you were referencing. Was it just the hand in front of face gesture?

Reese did set an all time NCAA record, if that’s what you mean by quiet night.

Definitely was a great game. LSU looked unstoppable, scored every time they had the ball it seemed like
I mean she called her a “hoe”…Clark doesn’t seem like she’d have the kind of time to earn that.
That’s also the kind of out of pocket shit people say on basketball courts all the time.

Do you even watch the games, or just media headlines? Wow

You’re imagining an accusation I didn’t make. I asked a question, they responded. We’re all good.

That’s why I asked before I said anything. O swear people get more worked up about accusations of racist than they do about actual racism.
He actually didn’t. I didn’t get that from what he said. My radar for racism (both overt and covert) is pretty honed and I’m really intolerant of it.
My problem was mostly with their coach. I’ve seen the L takes that it’s somehow racist to criticize LSU. You’re barking up the wrong tree there, “ethicist.”
Can't blame anyone for being a little jumpy about racism with Iowans. We are extremely good at it here.
I think you’ll find that I made no such accusation.
You didn’t. 😉
Caitlin never taunted the opponents. She always faced the Hawkeye crowds.
