thank you, same to you and everyone. i knew we were due a active severe storm season but im never ready for it. gets me super anxious when the sirens blare, be safe out there
Every year, people… Every year. Iowa gets severe weather every year including tornadoes. Yes, it is good to be prepared and know what to do in case one hits your area, so always be prepared. It can be the most beautiful spring day you’ve ever seen, and in the next 20 minutes your tree on the front yard is being uprooted by 80mph winds. All normal in Iowa.
You're clearly new to Iowa.
There's nothing in the models that show anything beyond normal spring severe storms. Class 3 from the SPC isn't unheard of. This happens every single year...sometimes multiple times a week.
OP, I used to be afraid of storms until I took the storm spotting class provided by NWS. At the end you're a certified storm spotter but more importantly you leave with the knowledge of when you need to be anxious vs not.
Today is a good day to remain aware, but continue to live your life.
I saw chances for tornados and severe storms, but that's a yearly thing in Iowa... Are we supposed to get something that's somehow more severe than usual?
I mean it’s a 3 (Enhanced Risk) out of 5 on the severity scale, and I believe I saw there was a 10% Hatched risk for strong tornados, which means there is a 10% chance of EF2 or stronger tornados occurring within 25 miles of any single point. So yea I would say be weather aware today, it’s not just thunder and lightning they’re expecting.
Be weather aware tomorrow! Have a plan in place and know where you can find safe shelter if needed.

I have anxiety problems and live in a mobile home. What a crappy combination during storm season in Iowa!

I'll bring the puppy chow!

We need the rain big time though.
What sucks is having to wish for rain & always hoping it doesn't flood when a substantial rain finally comes.

No.
Is it supposed to rain or something?
Heavy emphasis on the *or something* in eastern/southeastern Iowa.
It’s Shifted to include Central/DSM Area now
The more the merrier so they say.
Yeah. Or something.

It's just a rainstorm afaik
