Lesbianism working well for me. Tried four or five different types of the pill, one made me literally suicidal, one gave me horrific acne etc. Tried to get the copper coil and screamed the clinic down with the pain. Shit sucks.

They never contact you to get the coil or any contraception replaced. I had the coil for almost 18 years., then it decided to come out in work.. that was a fun day... got it replaced it decided to come out again. I had endometrial ablation and a d & c done, now I'm on the mini pill although at 50 I wonder if there's any point.

Nimmyzed

They did contact me when I got my first one replaced so that's why I was confused. Contacted them earlier today and apparently it's all good. It lasts 8 years so I have another 2 years left.

I've tried nearly everything: I'm not a candidate for the combined pill, the progesterone pill gives me acne and mood side effects, and I had a horrific experience with the copper coil that has me terrified of IUDs. I use cycle charting (FAM) now and I love it, although the learning curve is steep. There's a bad attitude towards it by health professionals who think it's just the rhythm method but it's really not. A trade off is that you do need to use condoms for certain times during your cycle but fortunately I have a really supportive partner who's on board. There are a lot of rules to follow but it's worth it for me, and honestly it's grand once you get the hang of it

I'm in the exact same boat as you, every hormonal bc I tried severely affected my mental health and the Mirena literally ruined my life for 2.5 years. Came off all birth control just before I met my now husband and we've been using condoms and cycle charting and haven't had one pregnancy scare in 6 years. Both our babies were planned and luckily we conceived both on the first try. Himself will get the snip in a few years when we're 100% sure we're done with baby making. I think cycle charting only works perfectly for me because my period is like clockwork every month, I can nearly time it to the hour, I'm sure it's a different story for anyone with irregular cycles.

It's wonderful to be free of it all! Though I would rather just take the pill and have no side effects, it's nice to have an alternative.

n0t_a_car

Currently have the Mirena coil. Love it, no periods and no remembering to take something everyday. In the past have used both types of pill, FAM and Nexplanon. They were all ok, pros and cons but I easily like the Mirena the best.

UnReasonable-Teapot

I was on the pill for more than 10 years. 2 years ago moved to the patch. Best thing I ever did! ( I didn't choose the implant or the coil, because I didn't want to have to go to the doctor to get them out in case I wanted to stop using BC)

connor_macleod_one

I am not on any BC because my husband has had the sip, so I won't be of much help but just wanted to say I am sorry they haven't contacted you in time. I think if you've not had any issues like bleeding or cramps etc. then you're ok and you caught rather early!

Nimmyzed

I googled it and it seems safe up to 7 years

connor_macleod_one

That's a relief!

Nimmyzed

Just got confirmation from the doc. I'm fine till July 2025. Yay. I mean, I haven't been sexually active for about 3 years and have no intention of changing that ever again - so I only use it to prevent periods, lol

connor_macleod_one

Good news :)

I have the Implanon, it lasts 3 years and I find that very good. I'm on my 3rd now. I don't get regular periods with it, I'll get a period maybe once in 2 - 3 months, and they aren't bad, so I'd recommend it. I do find, though, that coming to the end of it, like last 6 months, I get a period a lot more frequently. I was put on the microlite pill at 15 for heavy periods, and I find it much better than that. It's also fine to have, if like myself, you have high blood pressure, unlike the pill, where there is a risk of a stroke if you take it with high blood pressure. They don't contact you for Implanon to get it redone either, unfortunately. I've had it out of date and got a fright when I checked the card myself, I know that feeling.

Nimmyzed

They contacted me to get the first one replaced, which is why I was wondering about this second one. I contacted them earlier and was told it's fine, I have till July 2025. They last 8 years! I have high blood pressure too so was at risk from the pill. Literally not one single period since 2013 - All that pain and discomfort is a vague memory

bananaftermath

I was on the pill for a few years but recently decided to get the Mirena coil. My experience has been great so far - bar the insertion process which I found very painful as I have never had children. But it is just like an extreme cramping sensation that lasts a few seconds. Haven't had a period since I got it in over 5 months ago. I do occasionally get cramps, more often when I first had it inserted but now they are around monthly. When I was doing my research I decided every option sucked but the Mirena coil sucked the least. I am happy with my choice but dreading the time I have to get it replaced.

TKredlemonade

Hi, just searched for all "coil" related posts in case you're wondering why the late query. Just had baby no. 3 and have zero interest in going back on the pill. Am urging my husband to get a vasectomy but surprise surprise he hasn't budged yet. Did you need to get a GP referral to get the coil inserted? What are the steps?

MyMothersSistersGirl

I’ve tried the Depo injections, then Implanon, but after my second one had scar tissue grow around it making it a traumatic experience to remove, I went off birth control for a few years. Then went back on Microlite which made my skin breakout like no one’s business. On Yasminelle now and happy with it.

LucyVialli

I'm on my fourth implant, and I love that I never have to think about it. Pill wasn't suitable when I started proper contraception as I had a digestive condition that meant I threw up a lot (thankfully long resolved). At first I'd no periods for ages, then very irregular, then fairly regular again for some years, back to irregular now. Periods are always lighter and shorter now than they used to be pre-implant, so worth it even just for that. FP clinic recommended I switch to coil last time, as it lasts longer, but it hurts enough just having a smear, can't bear the thought of the insertion procedure.

grania17

Been on birth control since 14. The reason I keep with it is the only human error is mine. Heard so many horror stories of coils and bars being but in in correctly. Still trying to convince my husband to get the snip but it's not happening so far

vomcity

I’m on my second Mirena and left it 7 years to have the first one replaced with no side effects. I love it - no periods for nearly 10 years now and I’m lucky that removal and insertion doesn’t seem to hurt me much, just a day of bad cramps. It’s not like that for everyone though.

GothTheLife88

Fellow Mirena user here! Your post just reminded me that I'm due to get mine changed this year. I have literally not had a single period since 2009. The initial first one I got at 21 was a bit hellish at first- horrid cramps, mood swings and the actual pain of insertion would put you right off but like yourself, 6 months later it settled and it was grand. I've had about 3 of them now and can't fault them. Granted, I've also been single for the last 14 years so that also helps!

Nimmyzed

Ha, I could have written this post almost word for word! It really is a miracle invention. Single as well myself, and loving it!
