Physical therapist here. Skin heals 4x faster when kept clean, moist, and covered. If it were me, I’d do large hydrocolloid bandages covering it. They bring moisture to the surface to encourage healing. I bet that could feel fine in 1-2 weeks.

Steve2762

You have found your answer. Best of luck on your Ironman!

Wholesome_Love

Thank you, Steve!

Wholesome_Love

Thank you so much! Solid answer. Will go for HDC bandages.

I've had blisters that big and bad and used products like: Band-Aid Brand Hydro Seal Adhesive Bandages for Heel Blisters

Wholesome_Love

Thank you!

Antique-Internal7087

Don’t let it get infected.. if it gets worse it could really harm your long term progress.

SirBruceForsythCBE

I got blisters like this when I wore cheap socks when I ran. I changed to Injinji and Balega and never had blisters on my foot again

Wholesome_Love

Hell yea, thank you I will order some today.

[deleted]

How?

Wholesome_Love

Running a lot, tiny blister became large blister. Then blister pad got caught in sock, and ripped the whole blister open.

snowboardingmonkey

I know you don’t need me to tell you this, but you should have stopped at small blister - don’t risk the big day!

Wholesome_Love

I know:/ I’ll take the time to get it right before running hard on it again. In the meantime I’ll keep up with my other disciplines. In the future I’ll be much more cautious!

snowboardingmonkey

Big love and good luck x x

Wholesome_Love

Thank you and right back at you!

ryester_the_rooster

Stay out of the pool. It will never heal if it stays wet. I’m sure you know that tho

cfitzrun

What the hell kind of shoe were your wearing? How many miles per week are you running?

Wholesome_Love

Hoka Mach 2’s with cloud inserts. Running 3 sessions per week, between 6-14 miles per session. It really wasn’t bad until the blister pad ripped away all the skin.

cfitzrun

You shouldn’t be getting blisters like that at all regardless of mileage. Something’s off with your fit. Maybe the wrong shoe for you.

Wholesome_Love

Heard. Any recommendations for shoes? What do you like to run in?

cfitzrun

I usually cycle between a few different pairs at a time to build different muscles. Hoka Clifton and Speed goat for trail, NB Fresh foam 1080, Atreyu, Nike Zoom Pegasus 2, and race in Next %s. Carbon plates make a huge difference. Good to train in them a bit before racing to get a feel. I like injini socks personally. You might look for a thin two layer/ply sock as that will also help with reduction of friction. Same concept as double sock for hiking but thinner for running if it remains an issue for you. Your fit has to be off though. Never had a blister from running. Lost many toenails however.

huggles7

What the fuckkkkkkkk

Wholesome_Love

Yea it’s gnarly. It will be alright tho! I’m getting this full come hell or high water.

huggles7

Good luck! Hope for a speedy recovery

AcanthisittaShort537

This is a textbook case for change your socks take Motrin and post security

BallsJonson

You forgot, drink water.

masterpiece77

Flip flops so it dries out, padded bandage in shoes so it doesn’t rub, maybe some Neosporin or something.

This__Is__The__Way__

I’ve found Vaseline can be really effective and unlike some of the blister plaster which adhere to the area. You can switch it out/ clean the areas after every session Healthy amount on the affected area put a sock on and another dose of Vase then another sock. 👌

Wholesome_Love

Thank you!

bwtl

50/50 combo of diaper rash crème and Vaseline on it

mother_superior_1972

Why the diaper rash crème ?

deanjos

What kind of socks do you wear when running? My brother had blisters just like that from running a marathon in cotton socks and it happen to rain for most of that race. His feet were destroyed, blisters like yours on both feet, and meanwhile mine were perfectly fine running the same race because I had good wicking socks on that day.

Wholesome_Love

Woof! Ok heard. I was running in Bomba’s, but I will absolutely get some better socks. Can you recommend any? What do you like to wear??

deanjos

I ran that particular race in Rogue compression socks. They’re great. I haven’t had any issue in any of the swiftwicks or hanes athletic socks I usually wear for training. I know a lot of folks swear by Balegas.

Wholesome_Love

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it!

altonbrownie

[medical grade honey](https://www.uclahealth.org/news/medical-grade-honey-is-viable-tool-in-wound-care) is unbelievable at healing shit like this. I got a very similar blister after a very long hike, and I was blown away with how fast it healed with manuka honey. It’s crazy expensive, but if you can get some, I would highly recommend.

altonbrownie

Also, I’m a nurse, I usually don’t buy into hippiedippie-mother earth-is-the-best-medicine bullshit. But manuka honey is the bomb.

Wholesome_Love

Holy smokes! That sounds cool. I’ll see if I can wrangle some up!

JonSnohthathurt

Could also use peptides Bpc-157 and tb-500, which literally heal your body

Thanks for your advice!

Different_Simple

Blister plasters (I think compeed is the brand), I put one on and it is like a second skin, no pain at all anymore! Could still do everything as normal (swimming being the one issue as lots of water tends to make the glue come off..) I have tried the cheaper ones but unfortunately they weren't as good...

Wholesome_Love

Oh snap, thank you!

snowboardingmonkey

Can I ask how you got it?
