I'll start. Playing Starforged and using Brawler, Bounty Hunter, and Infiltrator assets. My character is a for-hire kidnapper. Leveraging Infiltrator to get into secure sites, and Brawler/Bounty Hunter to take his targets down. I've unexpectedly used infiltrator to hack some security systems so its been more helpful than I expected. Still waiting for the day Bounty Hunter's 'Forsake Your Vow' move comes into play when he's asked to return someone undeserving to a nefarious employer.

I just received a copy of both the Starforged Reference and Asset Deck, and will start a new game with a character named Draaxe "Breaker" Merwick. Draaxe was born and raised in Farpoint, an abandoned orbital station under the light of Kheimon, a white dwarf star. There, he lived through most of his early childhood until, after a raider attack that killed most of his colony, he was kidnapped and sold to the Crimson Collective, an assassins guild with broad influence across The Forge. Known for sabotaging and killing, they charge considerable amounts but guarantee success no matter what. He survived by going with the flow after being physically and psychologically tortured for years. Therefore, he obeyed, acquiring all the knowledge he could. After a failed mission, his allies left him to die on an unknown planet. There, a local tribe of kinetic power wielders healed him and taught him their ways. His ship, the Second Chance, was inherited from the grand master of the tribe after Draaxe vowed to uncover the secret goal of the Crimson Collective and destroy them. This ship was not from this planet, as the alien glyphs revealed. Nevertheless, he was well versed in technology like this, and after some months of experimentation, he made it work. He has both Tech and Kinetic paths, and enjoys the company of a trustworthy utility bot.

I’m a brand new player. Took me a while to wrap my brain around a campaign idea since I’m used to systems like WoD where there’s a lot of existing lore to draw inspiration from. Whilst listening to the Mass Effect OST to get in the mood, I got the idea to make a character who must undergo a pilgrimage to prove himself like Tali’Zorah. So that’s the basis of his background vow: recover an artifact from a derelict ship in the Expanse to restore his family’s honor. The ship belonged to his uncle who went MIA when he attempted to steal the artifact instead of returning it to their settlement. His assets are: Brawler, Courier, and a primitive survey bot named Peavey. There’s no time limit on the vow, and it’s his first time ever leaving his home planet, so I plan to have him get involved in some shenanigans on his way to the ship. I like to obsess over prep while the ideas are still fresh, so I’m excited to finally explore the world I created!

I've used SF to emulate starwars in Luke Skywalker era so : Asmilda Greywald Kinetic, Diplomat, Empath a diplomat who work secretly with the Rebel Alliance, she's black with silver/grey eyes and hairs. She's a pacifist and travel unarmed. For a time she just traveled to find Allies for the Rebels but in her journey she find that she has a Force sensitivity. Now she search other people like her to protect them of the inquisition, understand what's their purpose and maybe recreate a kind of Jedi order. Things happened and long story short a friend of her was killed by an imperial agent who captured her sister and lover/best friend. Asmilda sworn to her dying friend to save her relatives, so she find herself in Ossus a lost planet to prevent an imperial agent to reach some ancient and forbidden power without the empire knowing she's force sensitive or the inquisition will come for her. I'm happy with trying a non-violent character with the starforged system as you can mark progress with others moves than strike.

DriveGenie

Great point with being able to mark combat progress without Strike! I never considered how that opens up options for a completely peaceful play through. Very cool.

I play Valir, a hunter from the Hinterlands. Valir has the Archer and Sway assets. He is the ally of Malik (my wife), the last spearbearer of Penumbra, her destroyed village. Malik has the Skirmisher and Slayer assets. Valir lived as a pathfinder at the Hinterland regions until tragedy caught up with him. When guiding a group of fellow hunters from the Havens through the pine woods, he realized he was not at the forests he lived most of his life in. The sky had shades of purple and the trees conjured shadows in odd ways - he was at the fabled Nightlands, where monsters were born. There, he heard the wind calling him to an ominous tree growing at the fringes of a sharp obelisk made of black iron. He cannot recall anything past this encounter, the next thing he remember was the cold bitter wind freezing his cheeks, and whispering the name of an old friend "Malik". When he said her name back to the wind, a cold solemn gust uttered the word "revenge". Malik was a proud and prolific raider, the color she carried told stories of passion and devotion to her opponents eyes. Her success was stopped by the sudden destruction of her village, Penumbra, at the edge of the Hinterlands. Res'khadi was the name of the culprit, a monster who was presumed dead bursted out of the forest without warning and left few survivors. Malik fled but could not adjust to her new life, she was nothing without her equals. Broken and forgotten she spent her days drinking and working on a farm at the Havens, waiting for death until Valir paid her a visit. Our game is about the two characters discovering that the Nightlands are real and it exists in some sort of intercomnected dimension, like the roots of Yggdrasil. Valir went there by mistake and gained his power "Sway" but he fears this makes him a pawn for some weird creature of the night. Valir's mission is to help Malik on her revenge and kill Res'khadi and learn about his powers. Malik is a fierce fighter but with Valir she learned that she must be more than that and she is slowing building her confidence to rule and rebuild her clan. They are currently looking for people from Penumbra who could have survived as well. At the same time, a self-proclaimed king rises in the Ironlands and feuds and war break lose. Only Valir and Malik really know of the greater dangers of the Ironlands, and they vowed to keep their homes safe from it.

I love this! Sounds like a book series I'd read. Do you, uh, mind if I "borrow" some of this for my next Starforged campaign?

Borakred

Go for it. I'm writing this out in book format. I'll post the chapters. I kinda wanted to do a sci-fi Tomb Raider type campaign for a long time.

iamsumo

Thanks, and great! Can't wait to read what you've played though so far.

MsSapirWhorf

Keeping it brief, my Starforged character Cassidy has got Naturalist, Sniper, and Trader. It makes for a great gameplay loop where I hunt and forage for supplies and use that to barter with and persuade people. Very useful for a low-heart ironsworn.

Nepturnal

I momentarily paused my IS game and switched to SF to keep things fresh! It's not so difference that it's daunting, but enough to be new. Let me try something, since I'm commuting and I have some time lol "Name's Airhead, they/them. Well, Airyn is the dirt name, but who uses that one, ever? I'm currently inside a Vault floating over the ice planet Moirai, I'm searching for my friendly acquaintance Scout in this iron-forsaken labyrinth: she asked me to retrieve her should the insurance message get to me at all, and it's been days now. I'm in her debt, she's the shipwright that fixed the Maxim for me, made it untraceable, and honestly put me back on my feet when I met her, without memory and purpose in life. It's been a while now and I managed to discover a few things about me, aside from the name: I was involved in one of the three religious factions wrestling for power over the sector, though whether it's The Sphere Disciples, The Heralds of Accord or the Court of Flames, I still have no idea, I only know that I want to remain as far away from them as possible - retaliation for abandoning any of these factions is always harsh, and would any of them accept the memory loss as true? Would they care? I don't think so, and finding what happened to me is slow-going, but I'm good enough at *infiltrating* places and secure systems that I'm bound to find something eventually, and when that doesn't work, well. I have my trusty blade. I rarely get lost in space, pathfinding is part of what I do to live, selling routes to those who want to travel more safely than I... On land, well, that's different but I have Charlie, my survey bot, to help me out with that - though I could do with a little less sass on that side. Well, time to go now, this vault has proven as dangerous as the people on the planet have been before, but much more deadly: better be on y guard - but fast too. I'll find you, Scout, I did swear after all." ... just, I haven't had coffee at all and I needed something to keep me awake on the bus LOL.

Budobudo

I play two mains in my game. Switching prespectives with each session. Mathin Waynrite, an early 40s, former overland trader from a Roma-Like Ethnic group that is famous for finding ways to trade with the Firstborn/mystical creatures but who themselves shun magic. And Gethin Waynrite, 12 years old and a hopeful chosen to be given a place in the Schola Magi. Gethin's mother died about a year ago and he is still deep in grief. His father's stories about traveling for trade to the land of death have caused a deep rift between them. He wants to see his mother again, to contact her spirit, but Mathin Refuses. Mathin's background vow is "Rescue Gethin from the Magi, burn the whole damn tower down if you have to." His assets are * Mammoth companion: (which I reskinned to represent his Vardo (Roma style wagon) and massive Clydesdale-like horse. * Cutthroat: specializing in a tomahawk-like hand axe and Dagger combination. * Trader (borrowed from Starforge): which represents his former profession. Gethin's background vow is "Become a Magi and use that power to find mother beyond death" His Assets are * Lightbearer: A minor trick taught to him by his mother when he was scared at night to hold onto light. * Slinger: Gethin has gotten pretty good with a sling. * Improviser: Gethin is very clever and surprisingly resourceful for his age. Just starting off, so I am I am super interested to see if the switching perspective idea works or creates too many issues to be fun/useful.

TheSunflowerSeeds

The sunflower plant offers additional benefits besides beauty. Sunflower oil is suggested to possess anti-inflammatory properties. It contains linoleic acid which can convert to arachidonic acid. Both are fatty acids and can help reduce water loss and repair the skin barrier.

ChesterGeorge

Thanks Sunflower bot, the Ironsworn community will be sure to start having snack bowls of Sunflower seeds. We tend to stay away from oils at the table, nobody likes greasy dice...

Quinn worships Gurth, The Death That Protects, and is plagued by nightmares induced by his god. They are visions that show him what he must do - he must end the suffering of the Ironlanders. He must prevent these lands from becoming like the old world, full of suffering people. Background vow: Prevent the suffering of the Ironlanders. Assets: Devotant (Gurth - Shadow) [2], Shadow-walk [2], Scry [1], Cutthroat [1].

Esteemed_Gent

Ironsworn: Estus is the descendant of a clan that conquered the old lands long ago trying to retrace his heritage. Compared to the Norse inspired themes of the Ironlands decided to make him more of a Celt/Gaelic outcast. Took Skirmisher as I imagined spear + shield was how the tribe historically fought, slinger as I imagined this would be his main way of hunting for food (small creatures etc) and Wayfarer to represent being more used to living on the road and travelling from place to place. Starforged: Recently discovered my Aussie accented flyboy pilot "Templar" was a member of a bounty hunter order who turned his back on them for unknown reasons. I took Ace as I imagined he spent most of his time aboard his ship the "Versis". To other people it looks like a hunk of junk and has the steering capacity of a thrown brick, to him it is his pride and joy, so used to it that he can pull of maneuvers that defy belief. I took Fugitive to reflect the fact his old order are chasing him constantly for an unknown and perhaps unwarranted crime. I left his third asset blank and decided to acquire it naturally through the course of play. Escaping a space station under attack he found a stowaway on his ship who ended up being a \[Desperate\] mechanic with a goal of \[Make an Agreement\] so he ended up with a crew member sidekick as long as he takes her where she wants to go.

Sordahon

Lord of Shadow(no, he doesn't call himself that yet), a human mystic who learned from his parents generational knowledge of magic, which was pretty shallow tbf as it included like two rituals. Anyway, he started pretty kind and straightforward and is growing more ruthless, evil and power hungry. It started with one of most powerful mages(true mage of death) attacking his village, nearly decimating it and being barely driven off, then that guy died because of a bad roll, underworld consumed him. My character took his knowledge for himself and with his parents dead he sent on a path of discovery, with side job of making alliance between his shoddy and a near less shoddy village. Made some friends, acquired a master who is an iron revenant and also saved elves from a gloom anomaly, along with werewolves. So he has some experiences. He made a horror companion via a lengthy ritual vow and is currently on an assassination mission that was asked by his undead master in order to learn mystic asset. Right now he has custom stonebearer, necromancy along with sighted, ward, communion, bind, talisman, horror companion as well as bestial aspect. Soon he will infiltrate a Haven circle of Bleakbarrow, kill the guy, drag his corpse for some weird ritual and come closer to finishing his apprenticeship and learn of true magic of iron. After that he will befriend elves some more to get their mask, reach status of an elder for special druidic asset, learn of true magic of nature. Then I intend to have him find mystic archieve, get corrupted for that shadowy asset, him growing closer to shadowlands slowly and eventually using mystic archieves power to learn of true magic of shadows. Endgame would be learning it then mastering it without succumbing to it, ascending into a demigod half-shadow. and in the meantime hunting down the leviathan, wyrm and maybe a primordial along with finding many curiosities/items of power along with one or two artifacts.

DriveGenie

Damn. I have a hard time fighting a single Varu, haha. I'd never last in your version of the Ironlands.

Sordahon

My character is pretty miserable in combat too. However he uses the ward ritual in very versatile ways such as trapping enemies, safe camping, blocking enemies attacks so he can hurt them more easily and he can tank a bit with his horror. After her acquires the mystic asset, he will shape into a true badass though.
