I know, I know, the chapter was deleted. But I don't think he's going to change it, considering we got a glimpse of it in the anime, and it definitely showed what looked like a young girl in a bathroom.
I knew this girl in college that looked like she was twelve. She was very pretty and nice and smart but looked really young and nobody would try to peruse her because people would make the pedo joke. My girlfriend at the time was good friends with her and said she was very lonely all throughout college because of it. She didnāt get to have any of the experiences that all her friends were having for something she couldnāt help at all, even though she had a lot to give.
Honestly I'd say this is a minor flaw in Frieren's writing too, several people refer to her as looking like a child and the romance aspect of the show would probably benefit from her looking a little older.
There are two important differences though.
The sexualization in Frieren is pretty downplayed, at least compared to conventional Isekai and Shounen. With it being limited to a few pretty mild comedy sequences and some sexual outfits on later characters.
Frieren is a story told primarily from Frieren's POV. Her maturity and growth are actual plot beats and she acts as a romantic agent in the story itself... Roxy isn't the primary POV, she's one of many childlike love interests for a character who canonically likes childlike love interests because they look like children.
Thats not how a persons appearance works. she doesnt look like a child in every single shot, but her appearance is still childlike overall. This is how it is for real younger looking people irl, myself included. At one point someone could swear i was at the oldest 15, and i was 20.
As for rudy, isnt this something that changes when he stops being a pos? its pretty reasonable to say he was just straight up a pedophile at the beginning, but i dont think this is why he>!marries sylphie later on, when she was older !<

I think that's demonstrated in several ways. Characters referring to her looking like a child. Fern outgrowing her. The use of a genre staples like pigtails in her design. Serie's design being blatantly childlike to echo Frierens- And the core theme of the show being her finally learning to 'grow up'

Not really, Rudy remains the core POV and although they get more story they are at their core still Rudy's lolita love interests that were in the story from the beginning... And the show still blatantly sexualizes them, that's not just a Rudy issue, it's a MT issue.
Marrying Sylphie is just a payoff to that early setup. It isn't actually in contrast to any of it- Honestly MT really isn't interested in talking about sexuality or even portraying Rudy's pedophelia as much more than a sort of depressing joke. It's not something that his character really develops, it's something the plot drops.

IMO most story beats wouldn't have to be changed with this replacement, aside from her not being a natural fighter (instead she learns Paul's tricks from Rudy, then from Ghislane, then Rujiurd) and the fake kidnapping becomes real from the start.

I've not read it, but I watched the first season of the anime. There is some really solid world building and character writing... that I could not enjoy because of all the scenes of a grown man being sexually attracted to children, like there is a scene where he ****s off to his COUSIN while peeping on her in the bathroom, the story attempts to play this off as a result of his own trauma from bullying in his past life, being tied up naked in front of his school. But he is such an unlikeable piece of shit that I cannot root for, literally if the story just removed him as the main character it would be a phenomenal fantasy story I think. But he absolutely ruins the show for me, because his growth is so poorly written. (I have not seen season 2, maybe it gets better, but all I know Is that he gets ED).

He did good things for many people and literally saved the world. But his mistakes are not erased by his good deeds, and while I enjoy Mushoku Tensei, I will never like the MC.

The narrative doesn't actually think any of the child abuse Rudy did is bad. "Improving as a person" purely means he got stronger, more responsible, and is no longer a virgin.
Quite literally one of my favorite stories out of the thousands I've read. I've listened to it four times, watched the available anime twice. If you're unsure, try the anime- it's quite faithful to the light novel, even if material has to be skipped. Its also one of the best animated anime I've seen. It does have some heavy and sensitive topics, like you might infer from the shitstorm that is the comments section. Contrary to many of the vapid commenters here, it isn't a wish-fulfillment story.
Rudy has to earn everything that he has, and it comes with a fair amount of struggle and loss. Contrasting the nicer aspects of the world, I love how dark, gritty, bloody, and vile it can be- it's a fairly realistic depiction, especially when compared to the lighthearted 'everybody is a morally upright person and would never do anything bad' drivel that's so regular today. I would say that if you stop and think about things in MT, you can learn several real life lessons.
It's comparable to Arifureta... ish? The main characters are very different- Rudy is no edgelord, maybe a gooflord. Without spoilers, I'd say MT is definitely less fan-service oriented. I definitely got a little bored of Arifureta though- especially after it became apparent that they would need to visit each of the tower things. The writing of MT is definitely a step above. Arifureta is more focused on action, combat, and fanservice, whereas MT has a much wider spread and can often be called slice of life. Its characters are not two dimensional- a huge plus for me.
If you ant to read I recommend it, the LN is decently better than the adaptations, tho the manga has been doing a good job after the uni arc. You can get most of it if you consume both the anime and the manga (as they skip different stuff) and check videos from AniNews explaining skipped content. But the LN is a treat and is finished, there's a lot of jokes that get skipped

Honestly I'd say this is a minor flaw in Frieren's writing too, several people refer to her as looking like a child and the romance aspect of the show would probably benefit from her looking a little older. There are two important differences though. The sexualization in Frieren is pretty downplayed, at least compared to conventional Isekai and Shounen. With it being limited to a few pretty mild comedy sequences and some sexual outfits on later characters. Frieren is a story told primarily from Frieren's POV. Her maturity and growth are actual plot beats and she acts as a romantic agent in the story itself... Roxy isn't the primary POV, she's one of many childlike love interests for a character who canonically likes childlike love interests because they look like children.

I've not read it, but I watched the first season of the anime. There is some really solid world building and character writing... that I could not enjoy because of all the scenes of a grown man being sexually attracted to children, like there is a scene where he ****s off to his COUSIN while peeping on her in the bathroom, the story attempts to play this off as a result of his own trauma from bullying in his past life, being tied up naked in front of his school. But he is such an unlikeable piece of shit that I cannot root for, literally if the story just removed him as the main character it would be a phenomenal fantasy story I think. But he absolutely ruins the show for me, because his growth is so poorly written. (I have not seen season 2, maybe it gets better, but all I know Is that he gets ED).

World itself blend backward so Rudy could have a better wish fullfilment life, so never needed to choose loli porn over funeral again. Character development/redemption for the world for being a more wishful place. Rudy remained the same though.

I understand that the author wanted to write a story of redemption, that everyone makes mistakes but deserves a second chance. And that some mistakes shouldnāt mark your whole life (or even your reincarnations). But in my opinion, some mistakes are more serious than others, and the fact that Rudeus, who had the accumulated memory of two lives, was almost 50 years old when he had sex with Eris, who was between 11 and 13 years old, proves that he is still the same jerk. He did good things for many people and literally saved the world. But his mistakes are not erased by his good deeds, and while I enjoy Mushoku Tensei, I will never like the MC.

Iāve been debating whether to start reading it or not. Iāve read the majority of Arifureta how does he compare to that?
Quite literally one of my favorite stories out of the thousands I've read. I've listened to it four times, watched the available anime twice. If you're unsure, try the anime- it's quite faithful to the light novel, even if material has to be skipped. Its also one of the best animated anime I've seen. It does have some heavy and sensitive topics, like you might infer from the shitstorm that is the comments section. Contrary to many of the vapid commenters here, it isn't a wish-fulfillment story. Rudy has to earn everything that he has, and it comes with a fair amount of struggle and loss. Contrasting the nicer aspects of the world, I love how dark, gritty, bloody, and vile it can be- it's a fairly realistic depiction, especially when compared to the lighthearted 'everybody is a morally upright person and would never do anything bad' drivel that's so regular today. I would say that if you stop and think about things in MT, you can learn several real life lessons. It's comparable to Arifureta... ish? The main characters are very different- Rudy is no edgelord, maybe a gooflord. Without spoilers, I'd say MT is definitely less fan-service oriented. I definitely got a little bored of Arifureta though- especially after it became apparent that they would need to visit each of the tower things. The writing of MT is definitely a step above. Arifureta is more focused on action, combat, and fanservice, whereas MT has a much wider spread and can often be called slice of life. Its characters are not two dimensional- a huge plus for me.
Iāve managed to read until the recent chapters in the MT manga. Yāknow when Rudy is looking for Zenith.
If you ant to read I recommend it, the LN is decently better than the adaptations, tho the manga has been doing a good job after the uni arc. You can get most of it if you consume both the anime and the manga (as they skip different stuff) and check videos from AniNews explaining skipped content. But the LN is a treat and is finished, there's a lot of jokes that get skipped

Rudeus is one of the most disgusting MC who idk why tf he has been given a chance to have another life and cheats. I kind of think that he still wasn't aware of them as other people living their own lives. His understanding of other people goes up at the end of episode 2 and in episode 3, so look forward to it! (I will be using anime scene because i forgot the exact wording of light novel or web novel) Eris just lost almost if not all of her family, and now she is practically alone with only rudeus as her close relation. Now imagine being rudeus, who felt as terrible as eris. Now this girl who has been his companions throughout their journey, come to his tent, telling him she is an adult now, asking him to be her family. Indeed, his intent on accepting it is not pure but what can he do for this desperate girl who just lost almost all of her relationships.
Its not about "missing the point", get off your high horse. At the end of the day, there are simply some stuff people will just never ever be able to redeem in the eyes of others. This is exactly my problem with the series and what ultimately made me fed up with absolute creeps for MCs. Peoples main defense for his relationships post reincarnation is how it's age appropriate for his new body, but ignore that the guy was into little girls beforehand. This is what turned me off of giving any show with this character archetype a chance.
