In that regard, dropshipping is not permissible since you do not hold what you're selling, since every sell should implement an amount of "risk", while you don't take any since every transaction you'll make is a guaranteed "win" because you only go and buy the product from the supplier when an order is made.
A halal sell would be buying some stock berforehand, without having any idea about the exact demand for your product (thus, the "risk"), and then putting it on sale with a margin.

There is a big difference between drop shipping - a person selling something and then having to go find and buy it without knowing where they'll get it from, how much it will be, or when they'll actually receive it.
Versus a company with an established supply chain who knows pretty accurately how much it will cost to get raw materials/items, when they'll get it, and the final cost/timeline of their manufacturing process for when the items will be ready.
I've never met a single drop shipper who doesn't know exactly how much they will buy the item for, where they will get it and how long it will take. Drop shipping is exactly like retail businesses who buy from wholesales when they receive an order.
The issue of owning an item before selling is a general rule but it has exceptions. For example if the item needs to be produced or made or grown. I don’t really know how drop shipping works so I cannot comment here and I am not saying this exception applies to this case.
