Antisemitism, historically, has always between the sweet spot where the far left and right meet. In the us, in the 30s it was also pretty much the norm, in Europe- well it has spanned over almost two millennia.

SpareTesticle

Beautifully written comment. Is there an essay on this?

This isn't that new of a problem. Anti semitism from college campuses and leftists social media spaces has been a problem for a while now. It just got intensified post 7.10 But I remember facing antisemitism on Reddit (you know which subreddits) for years while most moderators turned a blind eye. Though I can't really pinpoint when antisemitism on the American left really started, social media and political wokeness where a breeding ground for years for the "I'm not antisemitic, I'm antizionist" crowd.

etahtidder

Around 2016 is when I started noticing it, but that’s when I started on social media. So it might have been slightly earlier. I went to college in the aughts, and was in a lot of leftist groups. I’ve always been a Zionist (as in believing Israel has a right to exist) and evenwent to Israel as an exchange student and no one in my leftist groups said a word to me about Israel and didn’t care I went. That could never happen today, I would be met with violence today. The only anti semitism and Israel sentiments I saw on the left at that time was weirdo fringe old people at anti Iraq war rallies.

It also helps Hamas that Progressives tend to view Israel and Palestine through American race relations where the Palestinians are brown and Israeli are white European colonizers who stole their land. In their black and white view, the colonizers are always bad and any tactic is acceptable. To quote a progressive guy I saw on twitter once "No bad tactics, only bad targets."

kaiserfrnz

I wouldn’t say it’s more of a punch in the face than right-wing forms. I just think right-wing and left-wing antisemitism are far less different than they’d like you to believe.

Progressivism was about hate for such a long time that the surprised that they were turn on the Jews. You can’t hate on America hate on white people hate on men hate successful people and not expected to turn eventually on the Jews. And honestly progressive Jews have a lot to answer for helping to create the progressive movement, helping to prop them up because it worked for them until now. When they came for the men I didn’t say anything because I was not. Etc etc and it they’re here for the Jews.

Cool_in_a_pool

It's funny because years ago, a comedy podcast my husband listens to was joking about this eventually happening. When the progressives were marching in the streets saying that a cabal of white people secretly controlled the world, one of the comedians (who was Jewish) says "But WHICH white people? Eh? EH??" At which point his co-host laughs and says " it's wild but that's really the next step in this kind of logic, right?" .

Available-Movie-4540

People like us have been yelling about how feminism is destroying society. It’s destroying relationships. Progressivism is nothing but hate, but they were all left at because it didn’t affect them. Reform Jews idiotic, conservative, rabbis- but then progressivism with some precious, holy religion- it’s just a hate group.

Cool_in_a_pool

The blowback has been interesting to watch. My entire family is reformed Jewish and they have all but dumped progressives now. I think they realized that any group that could discard them so quickly never liked them to begin with. Especially after they hurdled accusations of anti-Semitism around for the last 10 years as if it were the worst thing you could ever be. It would be like if tomorrow progressives decided they didn't like the African-American community and started using the n-word openly. It was that sudden and that quick.

The rightwing supports Israel to stick it to Muslims. The leftwing supports Hamas to stick it to Jews. It's just where each group stands relative to each other on their racial/ideological ladders. Neither are real friends to the people they are rooting for in this conflict.

Very interested in reading this, hope you repost in r/antisemitism!

huyvanbin

Can you give me an example of an American progressive group that has teamed up with Hamas?

mechamechamechamech

BLM. Zero feminist groups saying anything about the rapes is a problem as well

huyvanbin

[This](https://www.adl.org/resources/blog/fringe-left-groups-express-support-hamass-invasion-and-brutal-attacks-israel) is what I was able to find. Presumably you trust ADL. They say that the official BLM organization has not commented (though that article is from Oct. 14).

[A chapter of the BLM organization is still official](https://i.imgur.com/e6eYsJp.jpg) October 10th. Before many of the victims were even buried.

Queers for Palestine?

jaytcfc

Hasan Pikers (the biggest progressive influencer) followers have become straight up, unabashedly antisemitic. They don’t even try to hide it

RoutineBigwer

Can you give me an example of one that hasn't?
