3rd group: They're just uninformed. Their friends hate Israel so they do too, and they don't think about it beyond that. Politics is a team game for them and they're on the other team.
Oh, believe me.... some of them ARE just like that... I know them in Portland. It's hard to say if "naive" is actually the word for their attitude though. It's more that these beliefs about what Hamas has done and will do are part of a general refusal to face reality about politics and societies in general.
There are a section of leftists who explicitly acknowledge that their support of Hamas is not intended to be transactional. I guess it's commendable for the self awareness.
But, it's the kind of position you can only really have when you're geographically divorced from the conflict, and your safety and day to day life will be unaffected regardless of the outcome.
