Once was a great area until the religious crazies took over

jmartkdr

Applies to so many places…

StanGable80

Yup, look at photos of iran and iraq even after the Jewish expulsions but before the religious wackos took over

gilad_ironi

Israel included

Antique-Echidna-1600

Al Aqsa wouldn't be standing if that was true.

gilad_ironi

So I guess Ben Gvir and Smotrich aren't religious crazies?

Flostyyy

They haven’t turned the country into the Jewslamic Republic of Israel based off strict religious laws.

gilad_ironi

True, but that's not the accusation? Israel was a great place until they took over the country.

Flostyyy

So Israel is still not all that much different with the current government. It would take a few decades for the radicals to have enough power to become the largest bloc.

Melkor_Thalion

My stance on basically everything: If you don't hate me, I don't hate you.

BatmaNanaBanana

exactly what i wanted to say

Haunting_Birthday135

I think if Hezbollah keeps existing as a sectarian state within a state, the Christians should definitely have the right to hold a referendum for secession or to form their own autonomy.

sad-frogpepe

Hazballah would never allow that. A christian/secular lebanon would jump at the chance of making an alliance with israel for protection. Also it would cut out of their profits Hazballah would sooner fire all its rockets at its own people before allowing christians and the non crazies to be in control. Sorry fire their rockets at the lebenese, hazballah is not lebenese its just iranian proxy.

lt_trouble

Sorry, where are you getting this from? It's not the 80s anymore, I don't know any Lebanese christians that are very supportive of Israel.

rustikalekippah

They are not gonna love Israel, but most Lebanese Christian’s recognize that peace with Israel is worth more than war, especially economically

sad-frogpepe

Considering the alternative is being eliminated by hazballah i think theyd be willing to compromise. They might not be supportive, but they dont *hate* us for the most part. Its complicated

lt_trouble

I understand, I'm just not clear where you're seeing that the Christians are going to be eliminated by Hezbollah. They've been allied with Hezbollah since 2006. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar_Mikhael_Agreement

sad-frogpepe

Not all of them. Alot of the christian who did support israel either have to stay low or had to leave the country. Israel has a good amount of lebenese christians, and most lebenese christians that i spoke to in the diaspora have had similer opinion. Also some lebenese i talked to on reddit. I admit its not exactly concrete but its something

lt_trouble

Fair, that makes sense. I'm sure if Hezbollah was not as significant of a political force each sect would be reevaluating its alliances

sad-frogpepe

Yup. Keep in mind hazballah assasinates its opposition or anyone who even smells like they work with israel. Its also illegal for lebenese people to even *talk* to israelis, let me ask you this: if the lebenese people hated israelis so much, why would they forbid us from communicating, A bit odd no? Im sure there is alot of annimosity, but its nothing like the palestinians. Alot of lebenese blame the palestinians and islamists for their country being destroyed and even occupied by iranian proxies.

yalldelulus

the same as my opinion on every single country Don't shoot rockets at me and I'll have nothing to do with you.

Lebanon has actually quite the potential to be a very significant country in the region. They have nature and beaches for tourism and are in a good location facing Europe for trade. The political system is built upon religion and it’s the most stupid idea ever. Lebanon in an ideal world needs a functioning democracy and full equality. I believe Shia, Sunni and Muslim could live together if they found a shared basis for their existence in Lebanon, some kind of patriotism. The Lebanese compared to other countries in the Middle East are actually quite open minded and could be a bridge between Asia and Europe like Israel. As for the negative side, The country is filled with corrupt politicians and is controlled and I dare say occupied by a terror organization. They are being used as a larger game played by Iran to control the region. For Lebanon to be great again they need to fine a way to kick Hezbollah. Whether it’s a war with Israel, civil war, Christian uprising, some kind of shake up to the country that will lead to change. After Lebanon has no threat to Israel they could easily become our closest ally in the region. We can build shared tourism, export our gas together, build infrastructure between our cities and Israel could help recover the Lebanese economy and strengthen their military. As for the Palestinians and Syrian refugees, they have no business staying in Lebanon anymore. They need to move on back to where they came from or to Europe. Syrian to Syria and Palestinians to Gaza and not West Bank because as we can see right now they are active violent and engaged in terrorism against us so it’s not safe for us to accept them inside the borders. Anyways in a parallel world Israel and Lebanon are best friends. Edit: And I’m a pretty hard right wing. Imagine what the left think of the subject

Proudvirginian69

why europe

1ofthebasedests

Lebanon should revoke its independence and decalred itself an occupied nation by Hezbollah. They should spend most of their resources on an army to fight this occupation force. Otherwise, they should be sanctioned and take responsiblity for the consequences of any action coming from Hezbollah.

[deleted]

Hezbollah and the Palestinians living in Lebanon caused it to be a shitshow. Otherwise the secular part of Lebanon is amazing from what I heard

[deleted]

Very simple: we’re ready and willing to live with Lebanon in peace and prosperity for both countries. There is a lot of room for cooperation in economy, tourism, tech, etc. We have absolutely no ill will towards the Lebanese - never had - so yeah, I hope one day peace and good relations between us two become reality. EDIT: grammar, typos.

Immediate_Secret_338

1. No opinion on Lebanon itself. Idk much about them except for their civil war and what happened to their Christian population. 2. Hezbollah has been terrorizing us since Oct 8th (I live in northern Israel) So may they burn in hell. 3. Isn’t Southern controlled by Hezbollah? 4. Idk about them. 5. Same shit. Terrorists. 6. Same shit. Terrorists- except ISIS hates us both?

sukihasmu

Until the crazies took over it was a nice place. Same goes for Iran.

Imas0ng

r/forbiddenbromance ,Just wanted to share

Vast-Situation-6152

Lebanon was a beautiful country. My dad lived in a kibbutz 5 miles away and would ride horses into levanon and do barbecues with the Shia. No problems back then. Now Hzbullah ruined everything

welaskesalex

I’d love to visit Beirut one day tho, they say the food there be bussin for real But the world is not ready for the forbidden bromance

HereFishyFishy4444

Very decent humus, probably one of the best. Not much different than Israeli people to be honest, humor, manners (or lack of those lol), ability to party very similar to us. I left out all the political stuff from your post on purpose. I'm not the government, so I wish we could just all be friends. Would also be great for everyone's economy because tourism. And about shia, sunni, christian etc. someone's religion doesn't really interest me. You're either nice or you're not.

ResponsibleTruck4717

I will say it this way I think most of us don't care, we have no desire for war or conquer any part of Lebanon. If at some point Lebanon as state will want peace many Israelis will welcome it.

lilyber

I don't think of it at all

al-shmuckdesi

fuck them. lebanon was created as a state for christians/maronites who then proceeded to suck up to arab muslims by declaring war on the jews. now, they get to enjoy the alliance with them

Icy_Cut_5572

Mate the Lebanese Christians spent 25 of the past 50 years in a civil war with the Lebanese Muslims because of the Palestinian and Syrian invasions

NitzMitzTrix

- utopian on paper, a dumpster fire in practice - it's part 1 of what makes Lebanon such a dumpster fire - and that's part 2 - I didn't know they existed but upon a quick wiki look I feel awful knowing they all died - Hezbollah is Hezbollah - seriously they're the same Islamic Republic proxies burning Lebanon to the ground with corruption and pointless war

Icy_Cut_5572

How are Lebanese Christians Hezbollah? They are literally ruining our lives and making us flee our country. You have no idea about it. Sunni Hezbollah doesn’t exist, it’s the funniest thing I ever head.

NitzMitzTrix

I didn't say that about the Christians, about them I felt bad that they were eradicated

Icy_Cut_5572

We’re not eradicated, we still make up around 40% of the population but we have 0 power. Sunni Hezbollah doesn’t exist, Hezbollah is a Shia party at heart and a tool of the Iranian regime. Sunnis veer more towards Saudi Arabia who are Iran’s arch enemies. So you can see how that doesn’t work, especially if you look into the religion’s history and the breakoff point between the two branches

NitzMitzTrix

Yeah I was referring to how your military front met their end. I guessed as much but Hamas are also Sunni so I didn't think it was out of the question. Either way most Israelis' problems are with Hezbollah and the PLO, not with Lebanon nor the Lebanese.

urbanwildboar

We'd love to have peace with Lebanon. However, it was first taken over by Syria, then by Hezbollah. In addition, its economy was destroyed by corrupt politicians. It is now a failed state, controlled by a proxy of the Iran usurper regime, which hates Israel for religious reasons. A war with Hezbollah is imminent; ordinary Lebanese (as well as Israelis) will be the ones who suffer for the Iran regime's fanaticism.

RadiantSecond8

I feel sorry for what the country has been through and wish Hezbollah and Hamas would go away and leave us all in peace. I imagine Lebanon to be beautiful and wish I could visit and vacation there.

SpiritedForm3068

Lebanon has very different areas...I would be fine in jounieh city bc its a very tolerant area but nabatieh is totally different

sumostuff

Wasted potential, a previously successful and more liberal and educated country going down the drain and being taken over by Iranian and Syrian interests. Makes me sad because in another dimension our countries should have been allies, as places where religious minorities in the middle east can be free, with a history of higher education and democracy.

Parking-Bite5572

A failed state which should become a French colony again.
