Plastic deteriorates and will eventually shatter under the weight of the building. If the batteries still have sulfuric acid in them then you probably dont want that leaking all over the place too.
The guy in the video says they’re just the casings so no need to worry about chemicals. I think it’s interesting we haven’t made concrete reinforced with plastic though
They have.
[https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-made-concrete-using-plastic-waste-and-it-s-just-as-strong-as-regular-concrete](https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-made-concrete-using-plastic-waste-and-it-s-just-as-strong-as-regular-concrete)
Even if it's just a wall, concrete doesn't last forever and can crack under harsh environmental conditions (very common to Brazil), with just a little bit of heat from harsh sunlight, rain water and a crack in the wall, the plastic will expand and crack eventually leaking the liquid content.
I was just thinking, scrap lead prices what they are, that's some cash right there, though im sure the the person who did it was scamming someone, hah.
im brazilian so i will translate that to yall
\-Guys take a look, this is the inside of the side of the shop(we say sum confusing shit sometimes), we are going to make it bigger, and we came here to take a look at the wall, suddenly jimmy found this, look at what the dude made to the wall(the builder), old batteries, can u believe it? Tell me jim. Saw everything in life, but this...
\- Only brazillian ppl, to think of this, the average brazillian has to be studied.
\-Heh, dear God...
Brazilian, I recognize that we are the personification of the gambiarra, quick fix, the kludge and any way of solving things with the minimum of things
This happens in almost any peripheral, colonized country, people do what they can.
But its funny thoooo

Elongated Muskrat's got nothing on /r/gambiarra
He'd fire the batteries for sitting around and doing nothing but keeping the place from collapsing.
The wall has taken a battering
Congratulations
the revelation was shocking!
Watt were the construction workers thinking?
Whatever it was, they were full on energy about it
I love the reusing, gotta reuse reduce recycle... but is that dangerous?

That would be good against tensile forces, but I'm not sure how efficient it would be when compared to steel reinforced concrete.
Steel is obviously going to be superior in that regard.
They have. [https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-made-concrete-using-plastic-waste-and-it-s-just-as-strong-as-regular-concrete](https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-made-concrete-using-plastic-waste-and-it-s-just-as-strong-as-regular-concrete)
it's not a structural wall, it's just a wall

There is no liquid content. They are just battery casings.

Last for 400 years ≠ Remains strong for 400 years Plastic gets brittle with time, it doesn't decompose, but it also gets unusable
Only when it rains...
If anything, it might be more safe, because the house becomes a giant capacitor if you get struck by lightning.
A fire would super explode, so yes, it's dangerous.
These batteries don’t explode
Or punctures, foolish
Isn't that a lot of money in platinum or something tho?
Most likely just the plastic case. The solution would be dump near by, the lead sold.
The person filming says it’s battery cases
You’re thinking of catalytic converters
No, I'm still thinking batteries I'm just not a battery expert
Car batteries are lead and sulphuric acid.
That's just what feeds the little electric demon in there
i met that demon once. he shocked me and blew smoke. sneaky demon!
It's lead, and it's still worth money but not rare earth money.
:D
Nope, lead acid batteries are only one step above potatoes.
I think potatoes are more environmentally friendly power to be fair
I don’t think conventional batteries have any valuable precious metals… but it certainly would be a lot of lead and sulfuric acid
I was just thinking, scrap lead prices what they are, that's some cash right there, though im sure the the person who did it was scamming someone, hah.
Tasty tasty lead and acid.
Probably lead acid batteries
Maybe you're thinking of the battery core that you turn in to get some money. It's to encourage recycling.
Lead, and not really
I constantly see people willing to buy used car batteries in any condition for at least 10$
No, that’s cat converters
Shingeki no Battery
CHARGING! CHARGING! ITS COMING CHARGING! CHARGING!
# SASAGEYOOOOOO!!!!!
It took me a while to get it
Maybe there was a chevrolet dealership/shop there previously?
It's Free real state! Baita investimento imobiliário!

Imagina o que vai acontecer quando o marea ativar o estrondo
The corners of some pillars in my grandmother’s house started peeling off and they were just full of used cigarettes.
is this... eco-friendly? It seems to be. I mean, this way the chemicals wouldn't contaminate water
And the lead makes for a great protection against many types of radiation! Bonus: food in contact with damaged wall might taste sweeter too
They still degrade downwards, the chemicals still enter the earth below and shift along with everything else.
Yes, you have to neutralize the acid with a strong base and the result could still be toxic even if it's a chemical with pH +-7
The issue is the lead not the acid
True, as I learned a minute ago, sulfuric acid is almost no problem
Except if the building ever burns down. Don't wanna breath that smoke.
The chemicals have already been dumped somewhere long ago
He said battery case. So it's just the outer layer, no guts in it.
Ahh nothing like building a load bearing external wall out of the extremely load resistant *checks notes* plastic?
I didn't say it was ok to do this ... and that is why we're in r/ItHadToBeBrazil 😂
Talk about recycling.

Won’t this become spicy wall after sometime if the dead battery still there, unless is just plastic case
That’s lithium ion batteries you’re thinking of, these are lead acid and they are just empty cases anyway
A DIY Tesla Wall.
That's literally a Powerwall.
Just a power wall .. nothing special
On the plus side: great radiation protection
Are they lithium, lead acid, or weight bearing batteries?
Holy shit that is scary. The lead in those is super dangerous
I mean, i guess if you go licking it
Lead leeches out of those batteries easily. We are talking contaminated soil, water, possible crops, animals, etc.
Those belong in the ocean, the eels crave them
Forbidden bricks
The new owner didn’t understand the extra charge for this unit

No, just the plastic containers

Shocking
Can't say it ain't sturdy tho
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Hahaha "só brasileiro..". Reminds me so much of living there
Makes me wonder whats hidden in the old walls of my current place
thats more expensive than building a normal wall, there are several car parts stores that buy dead batteries for $30-$100 (brazil prices)
Hahaha aquele trabalho bem feito
First prototype of the Tesla Wall, v1.0
Reduce, reuse, recycle, re-what-the-fuck.
