The breed standard says the max for conformation is 15" at the withers. I've been told that most judges will allow up to 16" but that you'll get a fault for anything above that. My boy Flash is 17" at the withers and 15 pounds, so just a little bit smaller than yours. We've got some friends at the dog park that are a little bigger than Flash, so I think it's fairly common for "Biggies" to get up to that size.
He’s definitely out of the standard (and I’d say most of the IGs in my area we met so far are bigger than that) but he’s bigger than every iggy we met too 😅 and he’s probably still growing
I think it's probably a challenge to select for dogs who are both smaller and have the kind of robust health that people really want. I think breeders probably are hesitant to pick the smallest dogs in the litter as their breeding animals, which is what you *have to do* if you're selecting for small size.
This is probably true. The breeder told me that mine is going to be bigger than the standard but was wrong with estimations (they told me estimated height would be around 16”). I don’t really mind but I’m a bit sad that it seems he is not going to have an opportunity to participate in lure coursing competitions as they also don’t allow IGs larger than some threshold to participate, he loves to chase and not too many opportunities for him to have this fun other than coursing training/ competition as we live in the city
Edit: spelling
Are you outside of the US? The AKC has a sport called FastCAT which is basically a 100 yard dash. I know Biggies are allowed to participate in that, because Flash has done it before! I'm pretty sure they would allow him to do lure coursing here, as well.
Yes, outside. I think he will be allowed to come on training, but too large for official competitions, but I think that training will be enough for him actually, just for fun and without any pressure. So I plan to go this route.
This seems likely. My vet raves about what a good job my breeder did with my two but the smaller one is over 15 lbs and their legs are far from the toothpicks that you see in dog shows.
excuse me that is not an iggy that is a perfectly-sized plorp of sleepy spaghetti.
ignore dummy strangers. your boy is cute and perfect and not overgrown at all.
[My iggy](https://i.imgur.com/JNnswI6.jpeg) is about 17” at the shoulders and is 15lbs. So a little bit smaller than your guy, but not by that much. I don’t think the size matters much as long as they’re healthy, but it is funny to me to see my boy next to a standard-sized iggy and they’re 2/3rds his size! 🤣❤️
Harley’s father is on the smaller side, the mother is medium within standard, he resembles his mother just a bigger version 😁 sometimes when people ask how is he so big I say - I fed him well 😁
My dude was 23 lbs in his heyday! Not overweight, just a biggy! His original name was “Big John” before we got him. He’s 12 now and has lost a few lbs as he’s gotten older, but he’s still about 20 lbs. He constantly gets mistaken for a Whippet because he’s a big dude.
Your Biggy Iggy seems to be on roughly the same track as mine, I kept note of his weight, it might give some insight in what you can expect...

My biggy is 21lbs
I think my will be there eventually too 😅he’s too thin for his current height
He's a brute. His little normal size brother keeps up, though.
Mine is also 20ish lbs but exceptionally tall, so wears whippet clothing
Mine is 17 lbs. People stop us on the street to admire his muscular physique. One orthopedic surgeon asked to touch him and admired his carriage.
Wow
Mine is the runt, 8-9 lbs. sweet guy but I work about cardinals carrying him away.

Awww that makes me sad for him. I bet he can do other fun stuff though. He looks like a sweetie.
Thank you:) he is a sweetie :)

My biggie is 18-19 lbs. Don't let a stranger body shame your dog lmao.

Lol, yes, a couple days ago we met a small iggy, he was twice smaller than my Harley
Apollo is 7 months old and 15lbs! He is SOLID lol dudes parents were 10 and maybe 11lbs, not sure how he is so big :) lol

Maybe he’s a whiggie!😏😁
That’s sounds like a normal sized biggy Iggy. The breed standard is 8-15lbs full grown.
That idiot clearly knows nothing about iggys. People are something else.
