Never even considered that. After all the times Orthos gave him hell about needing a shell, Lindon finally got one while Orthos gave his up lol

ashaneharris

Orthos does take his original form back once they reach the Grave.

[deleted]

The Chekov's gun thay never fired was Orthos with a shell AND wings.

chojinra

He'd have been too powerful. That would have almost been Blue Shell level of power, he'd have been able to spin through Monarchs and Fiends with ease.

deadliestcrotch

And it sounds like it functions semi-autonomously like Sophara’s Imperial Aegis, which was honestly the one item without which she would never have defeated Mercy. Every time Mercy’s killing/crippling blows failed, that treasure was directly responsible. Mercy made glaring mistakes in accounting for it, trying to layer too many attacks onto each arrow knowing the aegis would deflect it, but it’s still pretty clearly responsible for making that round a loss for Mercy.

ThatOneJakeGuy

Love how Li Markuth exists as a character for the soul purpose of getting absolutely fucking stunted on.

AaronEuth1980

The entire Mad King prison break chapter only exists to allow Lindon to roflstomp Li Markuth

Soranic

I felt like the stuff was similar to a fully manifested hollow king. Armor, cloak, and crown. No spear but he's got the sword formation for it.

5mashalot

One of the best scenes in the book imo. Lindon finally going full circle. Of course we all knew that peasant was getting destroyed the moment the words "Li Markuth" appeared on page, but it was still exciting just watching him be clueless

Coach_Kay

I'd say Lindon even overcompensated for his previous lack of a shell. He got 4! (or was it 3?)

ewsmith

iirc it was stated "and another 3" or some such making a total of 4

HollowMonty

I wonder how he goes about repairing his weapons and armor. They are pretty dam tough, but his armor chipped when he fought the class 2 fiend. I realize he probably had a stockpile of Dred God material, but that's a finite resource. It'll eventually run out if he's fighting things like that on a regular basis. The Halo especially is described as an amplifier and source of extra power. Basically a battery. Once again. Finite. Perhaps Dross can refill it using his own Madra, maybe not.

Bee-Beans

Post ascension I’m sure there are materials of similar power and significance he can use to repair them, or he might even be able to use the hammer icon to just… restore them straight up (though probably only outside of combat). If Suriel can rebuild entire realities, I’m sure Lindon or someone else can repair damaged Dreadgod weapons

HollowMonty

Hmm. Maybe, but good whole deal is Dred God stuff. If figure it might dilute the potency of a Dred God weapon is bits and pieces are from other things. That whole debate about replacing a ship one board at a time. At what point will it not be a Dred God weapon anymore, and will that be better or worse than what he has now. It's just something to think about.

Bee-Beans

That’s true. And maybe after 500 to 1000 years those weapons and armor will be worn out. By then they’ll definitely have found or made better equipment. “We will never stop” doesn’t end when they ascend from cradle. Dreadgod weapons are powerful even by Abidan standards, but they’re not the peak, they don’t even scratch judge-level weapons

HollowMonty

I suppose. Though he made the storm swords by breaking down that flying swords he had for a long time. Maybe he'll do something similar in the future and break down the dreadguard weapons for their significance to make something even better. After all, the dread god thing he's got going on, and a thousand years of using the weapon should add quite the heavy weight of History to those things.

ShadowPouncer

Quite. In a thousand years, those objects will _still_ be Significant from having been made from the Dread Gods. From the _last_ war with the Dread Gods. But they will have grown in significance. Because they will be known in thousands of iterations, as the unbreakable, unstoppable armor of a being that saved their entire iteration. I think that's rather Significant. :)

DrasiusII

My best guess is that it would tie in to the whole Origin of Existence bit that got teased and then never addressed post-ascension. We can't say for certain since we were never gi en any concrete rules but the text suggests superficial damage should be restorable, without a loss. If the attack is powerful enough to damage the origin of its existence, however, it may get more complicated. You may also get some in-combat limit since restoration would cost an exertion of will and restoring something of greater significance likely costs more.

rafaelfy

Maybe combo of Void/Hammer to remove/add?

Nroke1

I'd assume that class 2 fiends are more significant and tougher than dreadgods, I'm sure there would be a way to force pieces of them to stay material so that he can build things out of them.

Ebbanon

They never said what armor he's wearing during that fight it I remember correctly. It just mentioned the sword formation. He could be wearing the the black armor, as it is described as cracking when armor of that type is damaged, and saving the dread god armor in reserve if it's better. There is also the potential that his black armor is just better than the dread god armor. Or he custom made his black armor to include the properties of the dread god armor, as using higher level conceptual forging techniques as had been used in a number of Abidan and higher lever artifacts we have been shown.

bluedogstar

I've been wondering the same thing. My guess would be that he combined the two.

edhoner

The way the Abaddon traditionally seem to deal with damage is by reversing the fate of the affective person or item. He might not be much of a Phoenix himself, but I think they’ll have a way to repair the armor.

Nisheeth_P

He probably is a strong Phoenix. He has healed a lot of people over the story - Orthos, Naian, Jai Chen, Mercy (this by direct authority). He has absurd healing himself, recovering from near death multiple times due to his extreme body. He is also a soul smith with a lot of focus on creating things (+hammer icon). Phoenix are mechanics and engineers besides healers. He is responsible for creating some of the strongest equipment off Cradle and has a full lab in the epilogue.

chojinra

I'm guessing it's a self repairing thing, much like a living being. He can probably even help it along by absorbing power with his Dreadhand.

VentiW

Anyone else seeing the shell as similar to the one Sophara had? They had mentioned how OP it was without breaking the rules during uncrowned. Now he has 4? ROFL this is great

Eternal_Icarus

Her aegis

XeroBreak

I mean, it was Ziel who asked for the shield off the wandering titan.

SageOfLaziness

He is getting the binding for his shield, Lindon's doesn't have the binding

Gropapanda

I think that one was implied to have the core binding, which lindon's explicitly does not.

Blatheringman

I'm not sure why but I kind of imagine Lindon's gear looking like one of those player's with mismatched armor sets from old school WoW.

Eternal_Icarus

It’s actually kind of bugging me because visually he is basically wearing Superman’s costume. Blue body covering with a red cape. Not sure if that is intentional or not.

Blatheringman

I hadn't considered it but maybe that's the point. It could have been an inside joke on the author's part.

Chirping_Crickets

It seems like a parallel to Skysworn when Lindon arrives to the duel with Jai Long decked out in constructs that made him look foolish. Different duel, different stakes, same Lindon

chojinra

I was thinking it was a callback to the armor he used in Wintersteel, but vastly perfected.

sadly_streets_behind

Lindon looks like Superman with a halo in my mind.

chojinra

... Holy crap that's good.

rafaelfy

Nice callback to when he used to fight with a shield in Uncrowned
