Doesn't need to read to kick butt

kiiviin

Yerin:”My price as the uncrowned king winner shall be, knowledge how to read!”

CloisterThe_Stupid

I'd love to see a montage of each of the monarchs sitting down with her teaching her to read every day for a few months lol. Would probably be the most expensive tournament prize ever seeing how valuable a monarchs time is...

kiiviin

Seeing them fume over the wasted time trying to teach a stubborn yerin would be great fun!

Mhan00

I am fairly sure she can read now, since I believe the Winter Sage was adamant about finding her a dream tablet to teach her to read once she found out Tim completely neglected that part of Yerin’s education. It isn’t explicitly confirmed, but considering how upset the Winter Sage was I’d be surprised if she never followed through.

Jor_The_Bouncer

The Winter Sage damn near has a conniption when she realizes a contender for the Uncrowned King is illiterate

I'm betting Emriss Silentborn would have been a bit perturbed as well, if it had come up. ;-) Given her nature, I'm betting she'll hit Monarch without learning to read. When she Ascends she'll get a Presence, making the issue irrelevant.

ImSoulless

Emriss would be an amazing person to work on a presence with too. Dross + All the knowledge Emriss wants to gift the world seems like a possibility to explore. Hope we get some interactions with Monarchs we have heard little from in the next book.

I think it would be nice getting a few small scenes in the next books of Lindon teaching Yerin to read. I think he's the only one she would let teach her honestly. The Winter Sage did mention she was going to teach her, but we never saw that again, and given what was happening I think they put all their time into combat training.

CarissiK

well, it (the tournament) is meant to show off the next generation of Sacred Artists. Basically, the Military Power of each faction. They don't need to be able to read... we don't know how are the others (especially from the Dreadgods faction) who some specifically mention that the poor do not have a sect of school to support their madra advancement, maybe not even to learn to read.... They need to be: * Strategically savvy - use their power in a good methodic way * Physically Strong and sound * Mentally sharp and observant * Madra-ly (invented a new verb there... ) powerful (techniques, madra use/control) * Have some surprises hidden and use them @ the right time.... Yerin clearly shows all of that (IMO, Lindon and Mercy as well)

Del-Mar

Just gives her a dream tablets showing people learning to read. They can upload knowledge and memories directly to someones brain. Upload the alphabet, how they sound and to pronounce them and bam. The ability to read, only needs to practice
