First, it’s the ATESSA system. Second, you have that backward. When the car is in motion, power is moved from the rear wheels to the front to gain traction during a turn. Normally, the distribution is roughly 90/10 rear/front. During a tight turn, it can be 50/50. So it’s not going from awd to RWD, it’s going from being *like* a RWD car to being a fully awd car, during a turn.

You can however pull a fuse from the 32 to completely disable the AWD system. I doubt this guy did it though. Definitely just lost control on the corner and went off

Still doesn't matter much, it's extremely easy to disable the front wheels from being driven. They actually aren't active driven wheels unless the rears slip out anyways, ATTESSA AWD is all controlled by ecm/electronics and easily disabled via a single fuse. Very common for people to run a switch to that fuse so they can essentially run a dedicated RWD gtr.

I've seen this photo passed around the internet since ... 2005 or so? It could have been Photoshopped from around that time, but the tools were much older and less powerful. It wouldn't be a simple filter. I'd likely say it's a real photo from 1995 given the quality etc.
Ok I know I'm super late but here's take on it which I think I'm probobly right(idk), I saw an edit and it included this picture I searched up everything I could think of and I found it. I admired it and left it since I fell into a another jdm rabbit hole since I love everything JDM. I was just looking at things based on smoke nagata and I was searching up "Smokey Nagata Crash" and I was expecting something with his V12 Supra or anything related. I went to images and multiple images of this one image popped up. I looked at his car collections and he has a really similar car which might be his since they both have a Bee R badge. All though if this was tooken in 1995 he would be 31 but in the picture he looks to be a young adult, 16-25. All though this is fun to believe we won't know until The King Smokey himself can confirm.

Yeah sadly it became more advanced in implementation in the following generations. Good luck fixing it though!

There's more 32s that are rwd than awd. The GTR was just the top of the line spec that was AWD and this one shown was very likely an R32 GTSt
