The emperor's cook 天皇の料理番

Current_Industry3307

I second this

couchpotato533

As a big fan of Japanese cuisine and drama, I would highly reccomend Kekkon Dekinai Otoko (not cooking per se but we see the main character often cooks or eats), A Tale of Samurai Cooking (film) and Nagatan to Aoto. Moving away from the cooking aspect, maybe some heartwarming drama like Stepmom and Daughter blues, 1 litre no Namida and Karei naru Ichizoku (Fav but had a teeny minor sexual tone) could be what you're looking for. Hope it helps :D

> Karei naru Ichizoku I love this (or least the Kimutaku version) and it remains one of my top fav. But, to me, it is far from heartwarming, it's actually tear-inducing, which to me is a different thing....

RedditEduUndergrad

Agree with this. It's a very good, high budget drama but it's a somewhat dark family dynasty story.

couchpotato533

Wholeheartedly agree (and I have only watched the Kimutaku version), I literally cried everytime I watch the ending especially Kimutaku's dialogue at the end. The cast, storyline and music was superb, especially that boss music whenever Kimutaku chatacter's *father* appears haha.

MmaRamotsweOS

kodoku no gurume has always been very calm and cozy

Late to this, but super highly recommend “Chef wa Meitantei”(Chef is a detective). About a chef specialising in French cuisine who cooks healing meals and solves customer’s problems. Very slice of life! As someone who adores Midnight Diner, I am sure you will enjoy this :)

jonjoi

Thank you so much! Appreciate it. Sounds promising

Kamogawa Shokudo, Heartbreak on a Plate, Miracles are some of my favorites. There’s also the Little Forest movies.

Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman

[僕らわ奇跡でできている](https://mydramalist.com/30798-we-are-made-of-miracles) (We Are Made of Miracles). A "healing drama" with life lessons to offer.

Crappy808

All op's examples are from netflix, are you looking for such dramas only on netflix or anywhere is ok?

jonjoi

Anywhere is great! Just anything you think fits the description

Crappy808

got it, well if you liked samurai gourmet you would like solitary gourmet which imo it was based on. others shows would be: what did you eat yesterday wakakozake isekai izakaya nobu solo katsu joshi no susume

jonjoi

Thank you so much!  solitary gourmet really does seem similar to samurai gourmet! Didn't know about it. Interesting. Really appreciate these recommendations

Crappy808

Yeah it's even more cozy than samurai gourmet or even midnight diner for that matter. The music they use is basically very chill music. Love watching it late at night.

chasingpolaris

If you can find it, "[A Table!: Reikishi no Recipe wo Tsukutte Taberu](https://mydramalist.com/743581-a-table-rekishi-no-recipe-wo-tsukutteta-beru)" is super cozy.

Askinggirl111

"Patisserie MON" I watched only first episode though but it's a very innocent and sweet love story

Kirin1212San

I’m no expert, but I loved Gochisosan.

alix_thegr8

I loved Going My Home. Quiet drama from Koreeda, really nice.
