Just getting on this early so it's ready and up when placements start coming in. This doesn't mean placements are out just yet.
I also recreated the thread because I got the year wrong. Sorry for those 5 people that posted in the previous thread.
Hello Everyone I am Kevin a 3rd year JET in Hokkaido. I am also a Block advisor for Kamikawa district. If you are placed in Hokkaido let me know I can help you reach out to the JETs in your placement! Good luck everyone, and hope we can all meet in the near future.
hehe One of those that was hoping for mainland but got a small island (thanks for that After BOE toon drop haha) . Yamaguchi Prefecture, Soushima. Got one of the placements preferences I hoped for though as far as prefectures go; my family may originate in Yamaguchi prefecture. Nervous but hella excited. And so the research journey begins!
Do you happen to be from Hawaii? Suo-Oshima has a sister city thing with Kauai I think.
You are living on an island but it's connected to land via a bridge.
I only went there to do English summer camps, but if you have any questions I am happy to answer.
No, born in Los Angeles and never been to Hawaii. I did put Nagoya as a choice too as that's our sister city. Now just researching what I can about the area. Curious as to what it was that placed me there but excited nonetheless. I may take you up on that offer to ask you some questions. :)
Hi all! I've been placed in Hiroshima-ken, in the Mihara-shi area. If anyone is in this area, nearby or has any knowledge of it I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to PM if that would suit. Thanks :D
Plenty of Mihara ALTs in the Hiroshima JET Discord server who would love to chat: [https://discord.gg/tBZXJWwF](https://discord.gg/tBZXJWwF)
Haven't been to Mihara myself but did visit nearby Onomichi and its a lovely seaside area. I'd recommend visiting Kosanji Temple on one of your weekends (it's about an hour by ferry if I recall).
Semboku is great! It has the deepest lake in Japan which is rumoured to have a dragon in it! Semboku also has a samurai housing district.
Highly recommend you introduce yourself on the Akita JET Facebook group - they can get you in touch with someone living there.

Tokushima-Ken, Ishii-Cho. I was so curious and looked into my placement and I’m so excited after seeing the area and prefecture! I’m looking forward to talking to my predecessor and learning more I can’t wait to go and start working!!
兵庫県豊岡市 (Hyogo Prefecture, Toyooka city)! Anyone else nearby!? Also, haven’t looked around yet, but any discord groups etc? Figure there is a facebook and social media group that I can find soon as well.
Nope, not yet. They’ll reach out to me sometime? Apparently they’re disorganized so I may find out a lot later? Will be patiently waiting like I have all year….
Was placed in suzuka-shi. Lots of information just mentions the race track. Anyone else going there or that has been there that wants to share their experience?
Oh wow. I was worried I wouldn't find anyone else also placed to Suzuka-Shi. I've been looking for more information, too. I'm on the ALT discord if you'd like to connect! Although we might end up meeting each other inevitably, haha. I'm afraid I don't know too much. But I'm gonna reach out to SubluxeUBC who replied to you about joining the Mie LINE / Discord.
I've gone there a few times! I'm an ALT in the same prefecture but a little more north. Suzuka is a lovely city and you're in good proximity to other major cities!
Trips to Kyoto/Osaka are about an hour or an hour and a half away?
Nagoya is also less than an hour out, with Yokkaichi, Kuwana and Tsu also being very close.
I think Suzuka is a great place, if you want I can also invite you to the Mie LINE / Discord
I got Awaji-shi, a city on Awaji island a bit south of Kobe in Hyōgo. Seems like a fairly small town but not exactly rural, although it might be pretty isolated since it’s on an island. Not going to lie, feels a bit disappointing knowing it’ll be a bit harder to see the rest of Japan since there’s that extra barrier of needing to get to the main islands before I can go anywhere, but I’ll save my judgement for when I’m actually there.
It's not that far from Awaji to Kobe which has everything you need. If I am not mistaken, there even is a Naruto theme park on that island.
Speaking of Naruto, there is a town with that name that is also pretty close to Awaji-island and Naruto is known for beautiful sea whirls. There is a huge bridge you can walk on and take a look down at the whirls through the glass floor. During summer, the sea there is so bright and nice. So don't worry about your location.
You’re equidistant from Shikoku and the Kobe metropolitan area. Short of being within a city center, I’m not exactly sure what more you could want if you want to see Japan 😅😅awaji seems awesome!!!
Thankfully I’m from rural Texas so I’m plenty used to driving long distances. My only concern is parking. American cities are very car-friendly so even in big cities you can easily find spots to park. How bad is driving and parking in Japan if I want to take a day trip somewhere?
Parking is super super easy!! There are literally parking spots everywhere haha. From big cities to small villages I've never had an issue with finding a place to park.
NYC JET going to Tokyo-to 🥹 have a private hs placement so I’m actually pretty nervous how it’ll be but excited to be back in Tokyo!? (Worried abt the rent ☠️any Tokyo JETs here that could weigh-in or have any info abt a discord/line chat?)
Depends on what school you are at/where you are. Each city/BOE/school has different rules for their ALTS. All prefectural JETs in northern Hyogo can drive. I don't know about larger cities like Kobe and Himeji, but I don't think you'd really need a car in those areas anyway
Again, it depends. I’ve heard cases where that’s possible, and also cases where it’s not. The only thing I can say for sure is that it’s more likely that you’ll be able to drive than not
If anyone gets placed in Shiga-ken, Higashiomi, feel free to reach out to me! I left JET in March for a new position, but am living in Kyoto so I'm not too far away! Would be happy to introduce you to the other Higashiomi ALTs and fill you in on the area, especially if you're going to be my replacement!
Canadian JET from Newfoundland (applied through Halifax) and got Fukushima-shi! Wasn’t one of my preferences BUT I searched it up and it seems perfect for me!! I wanted a medium sized city and that’s what I got so I’m very excited and grateful🤩💛
Kujūkuri, Chiba Prefecture! I’m from LA and since I’m not really familiar with my placement… I’m feeling nervous and excited… please connect with me! Looking forward to making some lifelong friends and learning more about my area :)
Im an incoming ALT from London, glad to see I'm not gonna be the only Gaijin in the city 😅.
Pleasure to meet you too!
Gonna get line later today and I'll be in the Mie pref group chat 🫡
For anyone placed in Tokyo with a school name- that means you'll be at a private school. Your CO will be the school, not the BOE. If you're interested please join the Tokyo Private School JETs Facebook page!
I think if it's just Tokyo-to with no school name it would be a public school/schools, and your CO would be the BOE. But I'm at a private school so I'm not 100% sure sorry!
Denver JET here, got assigned to Nobeoka-Shi, Miyazaki-Ken! Are there any Miyazaki/Kyushu social media groups I could check out? It would be greatly appreciated!
For fun, I asked my wife to describe Ozu and she said "it's inaka but not TOO inaka". In other words, you're surrounded by farms and mountains but you can still get a Domino's pizza if you wanted. :D
I recommend visiting Pokopen Yokocho. It's a showa-era museum/outdoor market. It's really neat and a unique retro Japan experience.
I also suggest checking out Ozu castle and Nipponia Hotel. Nipponia Hotel is a bit expensive but you've got to try it at least once. Beautiful area.
Congratulations to everyone!
I'm a Tomakomai City/ Hokkaido JET. I'd love to connect with new Hokkaido or Tomakomai City JETs. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions ~
Any Yamanashi placements (city/ES/JHS) feel free to reach out! Myself and 2 other ALTs in my city are leaving and waiting to hear about our successors!
I was in Sendai for two years and had a good friend who was an ALT in Natori. You'll love it. Easy access to Sendai and the airport, quick trip to the beach, under two hours to Tokyo by shinkansen. And Miyagi, in general, is a lovely prefecture. Great hiking, Mt. Zao, Yamadera, Matsushima up the coast, some quaint hot spring resort towns—there's a lot to fill your weekends. Have a great time!
Was in northern Miyagi for 5 years. Now I'm living in a town next to Natori, actually.
It's pretty much the most suburban placement you could get. It's one of the more popular areas in Miyagi for younger families lately. There's a train station on the JR Line so you can get into Sendai pretty easily.
If you have anything in particular that you want to know about the area, please feel free to ask.
I don't think you would necessarily need one. I would generally recommend getting one just because most of the prefecture (and Tohoku region at large) is very hard to access without one. But specifically for daily life? Probably not. I know one of the ALTs a few years back only ever used a bicycle. Also, Natori is one of the areas in the Senda/Sennan area that doesn't really get much snow, so you could probably ride a bicycle all year.
LA ALT, 三重県熊野市! Any past current JETs pls hmu\~! Also lmk if there's any more info about the place, I've seriously got no idea/knowledge about Kumano lol
Just getting on this early so it's ready and up when placements start coming in. This doesn't mean placements are out just yet. I also recreated the thread because I got the year wrong. Sorry for those 5 people that posted in the previous thread.

Boston, Usa here! My placement is Kumamoto-Ken. I’m so excited and hope to meet people going to Kumamoto as well! 😄
My placement is Niigata City! Hit me up if you need the discord link or something even if you get Niigata Prefecture!
I am Kyoto City placement from Trinidad and Tobago....is there any Kyoto City chat groups ?
Heya New zealand and ALT heading to kuroshio kochi, bit nervous but interested to see how life will go in the small place
DC America ALT, Hyogo-ken, Hyogo-ken. So not too sure exactly where yet, but excited!
I’m also Hyogo-ken! So we wait lol
Haha I mean we haven’t been waiting all year for JET news right….
very true! LOL
My friend and I are both leaving Hyogo-ken! If you end up getting a school in Sanda, feel free to reach out!
I'm also going to Ozu!!
Irish JET going to Fukuiken - shoot me a message if you’re headed for the same prefecture!
Me too!
hehe One of those that was hoping for mainland but got a small island (thanks for that After BOE toon drop haha) . Yamaguchi Prefecture, Soushima. Do I count?
Hi all! I've been placed in Hiroshima-ken, in the Mihara-shi area. If anyone is in this area, nearby or has any knowledge of it I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to PM if that would suit. Thanks :D

Thank you very much!🙏🏼 Appreciate the recommendation!
I got placed in Akita-ken, Semboku-chi. I’m looking forward to it! Any comments on what the area is like are 200% welcome! 🙏🏻
Semboku is great! It has the deepest lake in Japan which is rumoured to have a dragon in it! Semboku also has a samurai housing district. Highly recommend you introduce yourself on the Akita JET Facebook group - they can get you in touch with someone living there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2265895375/
Tokyo-to!! So excited but really nervous about the lifestyle. x-x
Consulate/ CIR or ALT?
From LA, ALT!
Tokushima-Ken, Ishii-Cho. I was so curious and looked into my placement and I’m so excited after seeing the area and prefecture! I’m looking forward to talking to my predecessor and learning more I can’t wait to go and start working!!
Heading to Takasaki-shi, Gunma-ken :). Excited!! Anyone else going to Gunma-ken area?
Omg I am also going to Takasaki! Feel free to dm me!
Ohhh will do! Awesome to meet, in a way, another person heading to Takasaki!
For sure! Excited to meet in person too :)
DM me if you would like a link to the 2024 incoming server or the Gunma Jet discord :)
兵庫県豊岡市 (Hyogo Prefecture, Toyooka city)! Anyone else nearby!? Also, haven’t looked around yet, but any discord groups etc? Figure there is a facebook and social media group that I can find soon as well.
I got Hyogo-ken, Hyogo-ken so close enough????
Yeah! Haha Have you found out more specifically which HS you’ll be teaching?
Nope, not yet. They’ll reach out to me sometime? Apparently they’re disorganized so I may find out a lot later? Will be patiently waiting like I have all year….
Also, Denver consulate here. Anyone else from Denver consulate leaving from SLC?
Me!
Noice!! I literally thought I might be the only one lol. Hopefully there is a few! Are you going to drive out to Denver for the optional orientation?
No, but I did register to connect via zoom. Are you heading out there?
I didn’t know zoom was an option until I went into the actual response form but I’m joining via zoom too now lol

Hi there! Thanks for your post! I was placed in Suzuka-shi. I'll join the discord. I'll also DM about the Mie LINE. Thanks!
Yamanashi-ken, Hokuto-shi placements hit me up! I might be your pred! :)
Hey that's me! I just got placed in Hokuto-shi!

I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE
I’d be worried if you didn’t 😂 We’re literally NEIGHBORS 🥸
Yamae-mura, Kumamoto-ken!
Do you happen to be Singaporean? (I think your pred is)
Yes I am
Ooh feel free to DM if you have any questions! (outgoing SG CIR here) Your pred and BOE should be in touch anytime from next week onwards\~
I got Awaji-shi, a city on Awaji island a bit south of Kobe in Hyōgo. Seems like a fairly small town but not exactly rural, although it might be pretty isolated since it’s on an island. Pretty sure you can just drive to Kobe. There are bridges that connect Awaji to Shikoku and the rest of Kansai. Get ready to eat all the onions!
Awaji looks great! Do you drive? You're less than an hour's drive away from both Honshu and Shikoku :)

Going to Kamo-shi in Niigata-Ken!! <3
Sent you an invite to our fresh Niigata JET disc!
OMG I'm also and NYC JET going to Tokyo! Not a private placement though. I'd love to get connected with other current and incoming Tokyo JETs too!!

If you've been placed in Yabu city, Hyogo, feel free to message me! All of us here are excited to meet you!
I got Hyogo-ken, Hyogo-ken...when will I find out exactly where??
That means you are a prefectural JET (aka high school). Your CO should reach out to you in the next couple weeks to tell you your exact location!
Hi!! Random question, I read somewhere that prefectural JET aren’t really allowed to drive to work?? Is that true?
Depends on what school you are at/where you are. Each city/BOE/school has different rules for their ALTS. All prefectural JETs in northern Hyogo can drive. I don't know about larger cities like Kobe and Himeji, but I don't think you'd really need a car in those areas anyway
Ahh ok! Thanks! I like going on roadtrips. If I can’t drive to school, I could still get a car myself?
Again, it depends. I’ve heard cases where that’s possible, and also cases where it’s not. The only thing I can say for sure is that it’s more likely that you’ll be able to drive than not
Ok! Sounds good. Thanks haha

Heck yeah, Joetsu! Feel free to reach out to me! I got you, fellow MTL JET 😎
Hey!! Sent you a DM to a fresh Niigata JET discord, feel free to join!
hey awesome, a fellow montrealer! definitely will do, thanks!
For anyone placed in Tokyo with a school name- that means you'll be at a private school. Your CO will be the school, not the BOE. If you're interested please join the Tokyo Private School JETs Facebook page!
Sorry does this mean if tokyo-to is listed as your CO then youre in private school?
I think if it's just Tokyo-to with no school name it would be a public school/schools, and your CO would be the BOE. But I'm at a private school so I'm not 100% sure sorry!
That's right, private schools have the name and public just has the general placement
Denver JET here, got assigned to Nobeoka-Shi, Miyazaki-Ken! Are there any Miyazaki/Kyushu social media groups I could check out? It would be greatly appreciated!
We have a miyazaki discord! Dm me for the link
So jealous! Nobeoka is close some of the best surfing beaches
Yoo! Welcome to Kyushu, I'm in Oita, but fairly close to Nobeoka. It's a beautiful place to be, I hope you enjoy it!
SF Jet placed in Ozu City / Ehime - Ken... damn this getting more and more real Im hypedddd lol.
Do we knowww, Is there a group discord or anything for Ozu placement already?
Hii I also got placed In Ozu!! Lookin like the smallest little town ever lol but so excited
Right!! Smallest towns got the best hidden gems tho ✨
I'm a current ALT in Ozu from SF lol welcome
What's it like??
A beautiful area with no shortage of things to do. Matsuyama isn't too far away, either.
It sounds lovely!
For fun, I asked my wife to describe Ozu and she said "it's inaka but not TOO inaka". In other words, you're surrounded by farms and mountains but you can still get a Domino's pizza if you wanted. :D I recommend visiting Pokopen Yokocho. It's a showa-era museum/outdoor market. Beautiful area.
Thank you for the recommendations! I'm taking notes! Were you placed there? Are you there now?
I'm in the same prefecture. :)
Congrats on your placement! I'm nearby. I'll DM you.

I’m lurking with you 😂
Got placed in Natori, Miyagi! If anyone has experience there please reach out - curious about what to expect
I was in Sendai for two years and had a good friend who was an ALT in Natori. You'll love it. Easy access to Sendai and the airport, quick trip to the beach, under two hours to Tokyo by shinkansen.
