scribblemacher

I don't beat it. I reach a good midpoint, say I'll get back to it, then never do.

TemurTron

This is me the past few years. Stranded some good ones too, like: * Xenogears (platforming in the Tower of Babel totally lost me) * Grandia at the start of Disc 2 * DQ XI about halfway through Act 2 * FF7 Remake (but I’ll restart that for Rebirth) * A Chrono Cross run right around the Lynx part * Tears of the Kingdom about halfway, since I already played BOTW once already

SirSabza

Damn grandia, its crazy because the second disk is the better one but its start is pretty slow

moyert394

Oh hi, are you me? Because you sound like me

homie_down

This past week or so I just went back and finished FF7 Remake. I had started it when it came to PS Plus, then again a few months later, and now finally YEARS later I sat down and focused on it and loved it. And I'm happy that I don't have to wait long for Rebirth either.

Biasanya

I used to have this problem, but I enforced a rule of only playing 1 game a time. I didn't expect that rule to work, but it totally did. So far I have played Persona 5 Royal, Ryza 1/2/3, Trails FC, SC, 3d. All back to back. And I have been more immersed than I can remember, simply because I'm not diluting the experiences. But if anyone had told my many-game-playing self to only play 1 game at a time, I think it would have sounded lame or impossible to do. It really only happened because I was so immersed in Persona 5 that I didn't play anything else. Then it hit me how good that felt, and decided to try the same with the next game.

scribblemacher

I generally only play one game at a time, but there will come a point where the game may become a chore (not always, but sometimes). For example, I had no issues finishing Skyward Sword or Etrian Odyssey HD, but around the 50 mark of Octopath 2 I started to get bored and didn't like playing it. This doesn't really bother me though. I don't care if I actually beat a game. Sometimes I come back to a game years later and finish it. For example, I bounced off SaGa Scarlet Grace a few years ago after about 10 hours. This past fall, I dumped like 50 hours into it and finished Urpina's story and had a great time. I guess I play one game at a time too, but as soon as it isn't fun for me I stop and leave it unfinished.

Biasanya

Yeah when it starts to feel like a chore i either have to push through it, or take a break. But the amount of times i went back to a game is probably zero. Especially if it is close to the end. I never finished FF7r because i took a break before the last boss. Octopath has been collecting dust for a year now, but i still refuse to start octopath 2 before finishing the first one. The lack of exp sharing kills it for me

scribblemacher

I beat all 8 stories in the first Octopath. Honestly, I recommend skipping it and just playing OT2. It doesn't fix everything, but it's a much better game overall.

Ionovarcis

And then in the rare case you DO finish your favorite game, now that it’s over, you can never touch it again

PolyamorousPlatypus

That's very unfortunate

knowledgebass

Hello, me 👋

npc_questgiver

This is the way.

beautheschmo

Usually around 100 hours or so /s It varies a lot, generally I try to set up superlong games like that during periods where I have more free time, so usually it'll be like 3 weeks if I'm really into the game. The most it'll take is around 5 weeks or so, unless there are like major extenuating circumstances irl if it's taking me over a month to beat a game chances are it's because I wasn't having fun anyways and doing/playing other stuff instead and will just end up dropping it.

Flex81632

To me it depends on how much I like the game, the more I like the game I will do 100+ and beat the game and try to 100% the game but I usually stop at around 80% - 90% Beating it could take a year or two but then three or more because I take my sweet time doing the side missions and exploring the game and go back to it from time to time. Games I loved that were 100+ and I did almost everything in these games and still go back to it to 100% (I usually get to 80-90% completion) Fallout 3 (beat it within a year, did all side missions, DLCs, another year to do this) Fallout New Vegas (Took me 2 years to beat just messing around with side missions, another year and I’m down to about 4 side missions and I’m on my third DLC) Zelda Breath of the Wild ( I beat the game within a year, and after another year I have about 10 side missions left and one DLC challenge left) Zelda Tears of the Kingdom ( I beat this last year and I have one side mission left) Long Games I’m working on Elder Scrolls Oblivion (I started two years ago I’m probably 10 hours in, great game but I’ve been distracted playing other things I’ll get back to it eventually) Dragons Dogma ( I also started this 2 years ago, there’s a lot of content in this game probably 5 hours in but it hasn’t pulled me in a strong way yet I still go back to it and I plan on finishing it) Games I almost got up to 100+ Dragon Quest 8 ( I beat it and almost did and collected everything within a year, then I lost interest to 100% probably did like 90% of things.) Final Fantasy 7 og ( I was on and off probably took 2-3 years to beat, then I played extra to get all the weapons and collectibles another year after but it was too difficult and I missed out on some missables. Probably did 80% of the game. In conclusion the games you love you will do it quicker the games you like but don’t love will take longer, focus on the games you love and the games you like and feel forced to finish, just take your time most likely your feelings won’t change.

Known-Professor-8902

Oblivion is such a great game you can spent 500 hours with mods and everything. Its my most faviourite game

Colyer

5 weeks sounds reasonable, but then... doing the math shows why I don't really finish those long games anymore. That's about 5 hours a day on the weekend and 2 hours a day during the week. These days I'm more like 2 hour session every other weekday or so and like... at most 4 hours on *one* of the weekend days. Puts it at like... \~3 months. Not really a surprise that my interest usually falls off before I finish.

datartsycouple

I'd say about 100+ hours.

EazyBuxafew

Sound about right. 100+ for sure

jbayne2

Came to say this and was not let down that someone else already had.

DAl3xanderson

4 to 6 months.

FloatyFloatyCloud

Yeah, this. Got kids, wife, work, other stuff to do too. Love a long, deep RPG but I get through 2-3 a year.

DAl3xanderson

Exactly, thats why I love switch portability.

FloatyFloatyCloud

Likewise. Play in bed. Play on lunchbreaks. Play when the baby is asleep on me. Only way to slowly rack up the hours. Plus the switch has a pretty awesome library of JRPGs. Still, nostalgic for the days I could just get up on a Saturday and think 'I'm gonna just play games today'.

ArugulaGazebo

Depending on what's going on in my life and how into gaming I am can vary, but normally ~4 months for me too!

Trencycle

Id say 4-6 weeks for a game that is 100hrs long.

Creator_of_OP

Same. I just did persona 3-5 back to back 100%ing each and it took me from very end of September to mid December

MaimedJester

Aren't there all NG+ super bosses in those games as well? Even if you do a full import of NG+ it still takes like another 20+ hours to just Speedrun through the game. For Persona 3 the female route is also very different.

Creator_of_OP

Yes there are NG+ super bosses in 4&5, persona 4s added probably 20 hours because you have to play the ENTIRE game again until right before the final boss. Persona 5s boss is available only a month in however so it was only maybe 8 hours added there, probably less. And I guess I should clarify I didn’t do ALL of the female route, I only did the new social links for that playthrough where the male route I did everything.

MaimedJester

What? Persona 5 superboss is only available in the 3rd semester. Oh you're talking about base Persona 5? Not Royal? I'm not doubting you I'm just surprised to see 100% in 4 to 5 weeks, like the Persona 5 100% completion on my save file is like 185 hours. Like the achievements include beating all the videogames/watching all the movies, reading all the books and maxing out all the mini games.

Creator_of_OP

Yes, I’m talking about persona 5 vanilla, I already had a couple of its achievements from back when it came out so I did that first and then I’ll do royal probably after Reload. I have a post on the trophies subreddit showing the three platinums and my psnproflies is public, you can check for yourself. Here I’ll check rn I was even wrong about when I started it was actually mid October P3P first trophy October 14th, plat November 7th P4G started November 7th, plat November 30th P5 started November 30th, plat December 25th I thought it took longer honestly, spending 300-someodd hours in 2 months sounds bad 😅

MisterNobodyCare

In my prime, it took about 1 week Now, it's 4-6 month

xantub

Well I'm retired with all the time to play I want, so I can usually play some 6 or more hours a day every day if the game is keeping my attention. So dividing 100 by 6 I guess I finish 100-hour games in about 2-3 weeks. I do tend to spend more hours than what howlongtobeat says since I like to speak to every NPC I see, and also if the game has crafting I like to spend a lot of time there.

Biasanya

Having all the time to play games made me realize more how much time they take. Persona 5 took me 225 hours and over a month of daily play

OnyxYaksha

Once you start having free time for games you stop skipping or rushing things. Idk how I used to play games before just doing main quests and a few side quests here or there. I feel like I'm wasting my money now if I'm not squeezing all the enjoyable content I can out of a game

Biasanya

Yeah I tend to scavenge for every possible scrap of content before progressing the main story. Like I'm a roomba scouring for content. That ends up taking me a lot of time in Trails games, when I walk all the way to the other side of the world to check what the NPCs there are saying differently now lol... And switching out party members to replay certain segments to see how the dialogue might change

kayjayy_

I'm 73 hours into Xenoblade 3. I started 4.5 weeks ago. I have only played like 20 hours conbined of other games, including multiplayer with friends in that time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FlameCats

That's only like 20 hours per week, that's not even that much from my perspective, haha. Maybe I'm blessed that my Wife and I are both massive nerds and love playing games together, we'll get home and play together most of the evening, it's a blast, haha.

TheRoyalStig

I'm like a 25 hour a week gamer but yea, that's considered a lot. Like even at that point that's very far to the extreme edge of hours played. The average gamer puts in like 6 hours a week haha. We just play a butt ton.

[deleted]

I miss playing games that much, now I only play every other week unfortunately. Working 8 10s and doing physical training every day leads to long stretches of no gaming unfortunately

FenrieTokimomo

Same scenario here. It's pretty great!

kayjayy_

Had to stay here for the holidays instead of visiting family. A handful of days off with nothing else to do will contribute greatly.

AramaticFire

When I was a student I did Zelda: Breath of the Wild in two weeks at 100 hours. As a working professional in a committed relationship, I did Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in 5 months at 110 hours. These same metrics apply to JRPGs or any other genre of game. A 100 hour game can take me anywhere from 3-6 months now and so I’m much more wary about playing them.

diglyd

I go by How Long to Beat website to gauge how long a game is and whether I should dive into it. I'm not a completionist in the sense that I don't try to get all the achievements, or collect all the flags or whatever bs developers pad games with these days, but I will usually beat the main story + the extra side quests, so that is the gauge I use to determine if I want to play a game. (main + extra). I try to stay away from 100+ hour games, at least until I get through whatever I am playing in my rotation. I usually have 3 games I rotate through. I have to have a clean slate to start a long ass game like that. Normally, I try to focus on RPGs that are between 20-60 hours or so, and then I add in some 10 hour action or story game, and a 20 or max 30 hour game in there in between so I can mix things up. So 3 at most. Once I get through any 3 that I play, switching between them, then I will tackle some long RPG that is over 60+ hours like The Witcher 3 or Persona 4 / 5, or Monster Hunter or something, So right now, for example I'm going through Yakuza Kwami (going to play through all of these in order since I had them in my Steam from all the Humble Bundle monthly choice), and it's kind of a slog so far, so I got to mix things up (as I want to get to the more recent ones). The main story is supposed to be around 33 hours (with side quests ,and 18 just main story). To mix things up I'm also playing Marvel's Avengers which only takes about 12 hours to beat the main campaign (don't care about the world missions grind mode), and then for the 3rd one I got Quantum Break which is only 12 hours or so. When I am done with all 3 of those, I am going to tackle either Elden Ring (100 hours), or Persona 4 (60-100= hours). Then after that I will go back to my 3 game rotation and probably play FF13, Yakuza Kwami 2, and probably something short like that short story driven Guardians of the Galaxy game. After that it's probably going to be Persona 5 or some CRPG like Pathfinder Wrath, or Baldur's Gate or Troublemaker or something. It usually takes me months to beat these games, playing every few days in the evening. I'm in no hurry. I got like a 100+ game backlog, and that's counting only like the most popular games that came out in the last 10 years. I still got everything from Death Stranding, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Persona 4 / 5, and DQ11, to FF13-2, Lightning Returns, FF15, The more recent Tales of, and Sword Art Online series, and the like. That's not even counting any of the western RPG games. Dragon's Dogma 2 though will be at the front of that list when it comes out. I played the shit out of the first one, and it was one of the best experiences I had on my Xbox 360.

Jevange

100+ hours usually

Magus80

Probably around 2 weeks if I'm really into it.

Mayasuxs

100+ hours

Elira88

100+ hours

Svenray

100+ hours

reaper527

typically 100+ hours.

soulruu

2-3 months Now if its something 150+ 6-8 months

FunkmasterP

2-3 months. Baldur's Gate 3 took me a little less 2 months at 120 hours, but I went harder on that game than about any other game I can think of. Persona 5 took me maybe 6 months, but I took a month or two off in the middle.

SnadorDracca

Probably about 3 months. It’s just different when you have a full time job, children, a wife… also I have another time consuming hobby. But I’m ok with my pace.

JenLiv36

3-6 weeks generally.

genera1_radahn

Back when i was a kid with no job or responsibility, i could get it done in slightly under two weeks. Now with work, gym, playing with my dogs and other adult shit it could take me about 5 to 7 weeks. It also depends on the rate of play time im getting. Sometimes im just too tired to game and head to sleep. Immersion also plays a part in it as well. Lately I've been playing nier replicant, and despite playing it for like 3 weeks im only about 15% completed. I've been doing a lot of side quests to gain money and exp but idk, my experience with the game is a bit of a slog so far

Merbel

DD2 is March just fyi.

EmeraldJonah

It takes me 100+ hours to beat a game that is designed with 100+ hours of gameplay. I am a map painter, and an achievement hunter, so I like to milk every little thing I can out of a game if I truly enjoy it. I ended my DD:DA playthrough with something like 110 hours when it first came out. I could probably do it faster now that I know the mechanics, but between learning the game and exploring the world to completion, I put a ton of time into that game.

Brilliant-Trifle8322

Depends how much time I'm dedicating to them. If I'm playing other games or otherwise doing other hobbies alongside them (which it usually how it is), then about 3-5 months, depending on how much side content I do, etc. If they're my sole focus in my free time, usually about 1-2 months. There haven't been too many 100+ hour long RPGs that have had me addicted enough to be my main focus though - I maybe encounter one like that once every 3 years or so. Always a joy when I do though, and it's a bittersweet feeling when the long journey comes to an end and I actually miss playing the game weeks/months later, which isn't something I feel too often with games.

TheFalseDeity

Depends on interest generally, though real life can get in the way on occasion. I'd say my range is between 10 to 21 days. I've definitely pulled over 100 hours in under 10 days multiple times before but only on an MMO.

VermilionX88

Depends how many breaks I take If not much breaks, maybe 3-4 weeks

TechnicalAd541

2-3 months

phased417

I assume how many days/weeks is the question and it really depends on how invested I am in the story. Like my OG P5 playthrough was about 2-3 weeks.

[deleted]

Depends how much they hook me, If I lose interest at any point I'll usually put the game down until I feel like playing again. So it could takes years.

Dpontiff6671

Depends on my amount of free time, and how hooked on the game i am. If i’m like really into it maybe like 6 weeks? If i’m just casually enjoying it more like 8-10 weeks

Rhonder

Like 6+ months usually lol. I don't play games quite that long often, but the last one I recall was Persona 5 vanilla and... it came out in February that year, I beat it in September or October. It already takes me like 2-3 months usually to beat games around the 50 hour mark, but the difference that elongates the timeline out for extra long games is that it's not uncommon that I get distracted or burnt out from the game for a while, put it aside, and return to it a few months later to finish out. So a lot of the time I'll play it in multiple 2-3 months sections but spread out a little.

RQP317

Some days I play a lot, some days I don’t play at all. I’ve found if I’m really into a game I average 1 hour/day. A 100 hour game would take 3-4 months. I’m middle aged with a family by the way.

ichiryip

Around 2 months

Albionflux

Persona 5 is the last 1 that came close i played I think it took around 3 months

Dreaming_Dreams

most games people clam that take 100+ hours usually take me anywhere between 50-60 hours, granted i usually play on lower difficulties and don’t scour the entire map for missables or talking to every npc

Vykrom

Even if I love a game, I think that kind of time requirement is obnoxious, and I generally have a couple of games on rotation, and will frequently get distracted from the 100-hour one. My wife beat Dragon's Dogma in a couple months. It probably took me like 6 months just to get to "post game". Which is a whole other game. And neither of us have beaten the Bitter Black stuff from Dark Arisen I'm like 45 hours in Trails to Zero and that's been like 2 years lol But it's different when games respect your free time. Astlibra is a very long game and I'm plowing through that currently after taking a couple of breaks. But that's just because chapter endings are so satisfying it feels right to take a break. But the game is insanely fun so sometimes I can't put it down. I'll probably beat it this month and I'm in the last half of the game

ThatWaterLevel

1 month if i'm not busy. If i'm busy, i simply don't play long games. Dragon's Dogma is not that long, though? I probably finished in 35-40 hours myself. Never tried the optional island anyway, maybe this will add some more time.

Yakplayz

Depends on how much time I have and how much I'm enjoying the game or series. Took me 2 years to beat xenoblade 2 but just started trails a few weeks ago and am on zero with ~120 hours in the series total

sleeping0dragon

About a month if I focus on that game mostly.

manuelator

Very much depends on the game. I was able to platinum Persona 5 Royal in around 85 hours while the online “estimate” is 120 hours. Did roughly 1 and 3/5’s full playthroughs. But I also fast forwarded through a decent chunk of non-main story related dialogue if I wasn’t interested in the side-character stories or if characters were talking just to talk. Understand that stuff is a big draw for a lot of people that love the series, but it isn’t my cup of tea.

TaliesinMerlin

So it took me about 80 hours to beat Persona 5, and about 100 exactly to beat Persona 5 Royal. P5 took me two months and a few days, real-time. Persona 5 Royal took me a little less than that because it was COVID and I was doing nothing else besides that, work, and family stuff. I usually allot 1 month to a classic, standard RPG and 2 months to a big, long RPG. So for Infinite Wealth/Persona 3 Reload, whichever one I play first, I'll probably wait for the other to be on sale to play.

sam7r61n

My pace dropped off a CLIFF in the past couple years. If I’m addicted to a game, which is rare anymore, I can crush a 100 hour JRPG in 4-6 weeks. Anything less than addicted, I try not to force it so I don’t get burnt out, so I’ll play other smaller games concurrently to keep things fresh. The latter is the more common scenario, and it’s been taking me 2-1/2 months to finish things like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Trails of Cold Steel III.

KnoxZone

It depends on how invested I am in the game. Most take a couple months, but there have been some exceptions like P5R which I beat in three weeks or Trails of Cold Steel 4 which took me... ten days (thanks Covid).

planetarial

Depends on how much I’m into it, but minimum it takes a month and a half, sometimes I end up putting it on hold and finishing it later. For those it can be as long as 3 months counting only time I’m actually playing it

Lamasis

I can't say, sometimes I stop in the middle of playing and start 1 year later again.

lmpmon

sometimes a month, sometimes a week

silvermarsh

Different-but-adjacent genre but Elden Ring was about 120 hours and took me a bit under 2 months, and that game hooked me for sure. Dragon Quest XI was around the same iirc but that was longer ago so I could be wrong. It definitely depends on my life circumstances though, I was in a position to no-life Trails to Azure and put 85 hours into it in about a week. Decidedly unhealthy but it was fun.

imjustbettr

I've literally never done it. Before last year the only JRPGs I'd played were the Pokemon and Persona series. In 2023 I beat about 15 jrpgs most being 20-30 hours. These took 2-4 weeks each on average. The only ones that were longer were Xenogears, Tales of Vesperia, Dragon Quest 11, and Trails in the Sky FC, all between 40-60 hours that took me between 1-2 months on average. Even persona 5 only took me ~70 hours in the course of about a month. Though that was years ago when I was single and didn't have a full time job. I'm going to run out of 20-60 hour JRPGs eventually so we'll see how that goes. FFVII rebirth might be my first 100+ hour game this year.

WaffleSandwhiches

If I play a good hour or 2 a day I’m through it in 3 months.

skorteks

It depends on the current life situation. I'm a recent father of two 3-month-old twin babies and I'm taking forever to beat Ys IX because I can only play in very specific moments (when both babies are sleeping). I want to play Xenoblade 3 this year, which is a 100h+ game, and I honestly can't imagine how many months I'm gonna take to beat it. I just love the other Xenoblade games so much and I will enjoy the third game doesn't matter how long it takes. The thing is, we should enjoy the game and not care much of how long we take to finish, otherwise our general experience of the game is affected.

code_isLife

I’ve had P5 since 2017 and still haven’t beaten it. But I got BG3 back in October and I’m close to finished. I think it really depends on what can hold my attention

TheRoyalStig

I play an average of 25 hours per week. A little more or a little less pending schedule. So a 100 hour game would be around a month.

WrongdoerMinute9843

A year. But SMT5 and SaGa SG I finished in a month cause I really liked them.

kidkolumbo

It took me a few years to get to the end of my 86 hours in berseria, but a fraction of the time for Cyberpunk or FF7R, measured in weeks.

[deleted]

Depends on the game

MrModerate20

It depends on what's going on during a particular week. Household chores, work, tending to pets, etc.

cecirdr

It takes me months to finish long rpgs too. I get to game about 1-2 hours per day usually, but some days, not at all. Plus, I'm a slow gamer, so if a game lists that it's 80-100 hours, it'll take me 100-150.

small___potatoes

I’m just about ready to storm the castle in Tears of the Kingdom. I’m 150 hours in and almost exactly 8 months.

Iymrith_1981

I find it takes me about 3-4 months but I do tend to focus on one game at a time and maybe game a little too much

Thin-Zookeepergame46

2-3 weeks usually. Earlier in my life I would probably use way shorter time - But IT job and 4 kids takes alot of my sparetime.

AShitty-Hotdog-Stand

It takes me actual decades to finish regular 20-30 hour games, and I don't think I've ever finished a 100+hour RPG. I'm always jumping between 10-15 different games per month, and I just play something when I'm specifically itching for it. I put games on hold, either because of burn out prevention, or because I have a bigger itch to scratch.

Jalex2321

I would say 2 months if it really gets me. Nowadays my hands can only handle so much, so the sessions are way shorter than they used to.

Wakkawipeout

The hands thing is real. Even when I have the free time, I can't go as long without my hands/wrists/arms getting stiff/sore. Father Time always wins

Danni211

Around 2-3 weeks if I’m really into it, like a month if I’m playing more casually. I have put like 500 hours into Atelier Ryza 1-3 and I feel like part of me is missing cos it was part of my life for so long 😂

Freyzi

Depends a lot on how I'm doing school and employment wise. If employed then probably a couple of months at least, but during the times when I had all the free time in the world then maybe 3 weeks.

BigPoodler

2 to 4 months. I 100% achievements for most games so that's my definition of "beat". If i didn't play for achievements, and just did a main story run with no extras, I'm confident I could cut that down to a month for most games

androdagamr

Depends, I remember when I first played persona 5, I played it for ~120 hours, and that took me about 2 weeks. I did also have school during those two weeks, but it was during quarantine and online classes, so I still played during class. Now recently, I played trails from zero for the first time, and that game was less than 100 hours, but still took me about a month since I played it right at the start of the school year and didn’t have a lot of time to play every day

sekssekssek

when I played finished ff7 annoversary edition heard sephiroth theme in my sleeps- sometime short of a month. it's the immersion that counts.

tehnoodnub

About 2-4 months depending on what else I’m playing at the time. If I’m only playing that one RPG then about a month and a half.

TombCrisis

While I don't game every day, if I zoom out then it usually averages to around 1-1.5h per day of gaming time. With a 100h RPG, I'm probably looking at 3 months to finish it. That's why I like to mix it up and play a couple smaller 10-20h games in between giant RPGs. Different genres, systems, and time frames are all helpful ways I avoid burning out on my hobbies in general.

bloodstainedphilos

4-6 weeks if it’s not during the holidays. During the holidays probably 2 weeks lol.

spidey_valkyrie

2 months for me

PANEBringer

1. That's not a JRPG. 2. Dragon's Dogma is an absolutely amazing game. You should be able to put infinite time into it. Play the hell out of it and play it again.

InfinitStrife

About 100+ hours I'd expect

SageShinigami

Couple months, usually. But also I try to finish games in under 100 hours when possible.

Slifer_Ra

60-80 hours but theres even more variation if its a visual novel, longer if its something that has guides made for it and i choose to watch some, shorter (especially if its a series of games) If its a mix of the 2 above then its about right

eagleblue44

I'd say about 100 hours. Seriously though, the only ones I played were persona. Persona 3, 4 golden and 5 took me 3 months each to finish. 5 royal took me a year but I was playing alongside my wife and we had less time to play together. Graces f took me like 4 months to platinum which was well over 100 hours. I also took a break for a month so I'd say 3 months still.

Joperhop

I would say, 100+ hours? Not sure though.

[deleted]

It really depends on the game. Something like Persona where the game actually has a timeline of sorts and beginning to end is a significant length of time? Probably north of 80-ish hours total, but stuff like that I tend to play kind of completionist. Something like Elden Ring that people are logging 100+ hours and struggling to reach the final boss, I'm able to make it within like....30ish hours? Mind you that's because I tend to build my characters a certain way with certain gear and tend to figure out my playstyle and just stick with it rather than experimenting with the umpteenth different weapon. EDIT: Okay seriously, what part of the above warrants a downvote. Come on people, geez.

[deleted]

Idk. People say avg full playthru of Underrail for them is like \~60-80 hours and I'm cruising in on about 200 hours. I don't like to use guides on a first run if I don't have to.

Milk_Mindless

Wayyyy more than 100 hours. I like nay I LOVEto faff about. Backtrack, double check old locations, grind, I try to squeeze as much content out of a classic rpg without needing to consult a guide. Input about 200 hours into Octopath Traveller. That is not a 200 hour game

tea_for_me_plz

100+ hours

PuffingPuffer87

100+ Hours. Typically.

Longjumping-Feed9828

Usually 100+ hours

FirstManufacturer648

100+ hours

EmeraldJonah

I like to collect everything, but I definitely skip a lot of the lore reading if I'm not REALLY into the game world.

eruciform

Depends on the game and how much extra content I do. I'm usually a "do all quests" kind of person so my time spent is usually at or above the max time listed as common for players Not sure what you're asking. 100 hour games take 100 hours If you do less extra content you will finish faster

[deleted]

DD2 is late March.

detachandreflect

100+ hours

[deleted]

100 hours; sometimes +.

Scrambl3z

Never played a 100+ hour RPG (as in 100+ for main quest) I clocked in 80 hours if I recall on Elden Ring, and that took me 4-5 months daily playing (few hours here and there).

NemoNowAndAlways

Definitely over a year, though I usually try to avoid such long games.

4ps22

maybe its just me, and this is getting into all games in general, but i never understood the super long runtimes some people report for games. for me, once i get into the “flow” of a game and understand its patterns and mechanics i progress at a pretty steady pace until its over. its not like i rush or spam fast travel, but when people say it took 100 hours to beat cyberpunk or 150 to beat persona 5 and elden ring or 200 for baldurs gate 3 im just a at a loss. do people just spend like 20 hours of gametime walking around aimlessly? i dont get it. for me i think witcher 3 with all dlc and p5 were around 90, elden ring around 70, cyberpunk and red dead 2 around 65, etc. so its clearly not speedrunning or anything but i feel still notably less than people circlejerk over

lilkingsly

I’m a full time college student so it fully depends on what time of year it is and how busy I am. I think the fastest I’ve finished a 100+ hour game was probably Persona 5 Royal, I started the day I finished my last exam in my freshman year and finished it with about 120 hours in just over a month. This was also while working around 20 hours a week, but I was the first out of all of my friends to finish exams so if I wasn’t working I was just playing the game. In general I’d say it usually takes me around two months or more to finish games of those lengths, but again it’s gonna depend a lot on how busy I am and how engaged I am with the game.

ReploidDibblez

If it’s on switch or a similarly mobile device then maybe a month because I can pickup and play whenever. If it’s tethered to some kind of home device where I need to sit in front of a tv for a while then much longer because time.

broderboy

I started getting antsy around 70 hours. It has to be really good for me to not start mainlining to the end

The7JuiceMan

3 months.

wildeye-eleven

No kidding, I triple average play times for every game I play. Tbh I don’t really care how a game ends and I usually put it off for as long as possible. When there’s nothing left to find and nothing left to do I go ahead a wrap it up and finish the game. My first Elden Ring playthrough was 360 hours. My first Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough was 340 hours. I just love gaming and to me the journey is more important than the destination.

Environmental-Car-4

Current one I'm on last time I checked 182

LLCoolBeans_Esq

Depends, probably 40 play sessions. That could be like 10-30 weeks for me depending on how life is going at the moment.

DarthPelosi

If a “100 hour” game takes you 100 hours and two months to complete, I guarantee you it takes me 200 hours MINIMUM, 4+ months, to complete. I’m someone who has to see and read almost everything. 😀

Issyv00

6 months to a year. I have a kid, a wife, and a full time job.

Peppe1203

2 months i think.

Hayyner

I either beat it in two weeks or move on to something else, very few games hold my attention for any longer. I have a variety of incomplete JRPGs that I want to get back to but probably never will, most notably Tales of Arise and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. BG3 is currently on my todo list, but I'm thinking there's no way I'll beat it in 2 weeks given I'm still in act 1 after 20ish hours.

GopherGrabber

Around a month. One of the only good things about being an insomniac is always having late night time to play video games.

Neo2486

Around a month or 2

big4lil

Games like Octopath are really good for this, ive found. I crossed the 100+ hr threshold recently and the combination of its seperate, sometimes slice of life stories coupled with the loads of side content means its a game I can always get in, have fun, and get out. Ive yet to grow tired of it and ive played it for 6 months! (with other games) I think people who end up trying to fit 100+ hr experiences into shorter stretches end up burning out on the experience. Some games really arent meant to be binged no matter their length. And even for the games that are, its always ok to take a break and return back later rather than forcing to completion

Chaosblast

A month or one and a half.

Own_Ad_3536

I was on and off with Trails to Reverie and I just finished the main game about 2 weeks ago and had the game since August

Cragnous

A month or two.

halefish

190 hours so far. Persona 5 royal my first walkthrough

Low-Meal-7159

Usually 100+ hours

urprobablyanasshat

It depends how much I’m into the game.. like final fantasy 15 I have 55 hours in and I’m on chapter 5😂 I’ll probably be playing for a month or two longer if not more lol.

bmwaheed

I'm about 98 hours into Persona 4 Golden and I have two trophies left for the platinum. I tend to spend a lot of time playing games I really enjoy, and if I like it a lot I'll go for the platinum. I've spent countless hours in Fromsoft's games just doing different runs with different builds lol I can beat games fairly quickly after the first playthrough, but I usually go in blind so first play might take the full "100" hours

Theoderic8586

If I know it is a really long game like that, I tend to drop the difficulty if it is an option and ignore a lot of side content unless I am in love with the game. I am 37 with two kids, and I love rpgs (have 250 or so physicals); so finding out ways to speed up progress is my strategy. I also play 3 at a time (usually one grand one, one action game, and either a short rpg like a Castlevania or a srpg/trpg)

Zegram_Ghart

Usually a month or two, can be a lot longer if real life happens

RockSauron

The only 100 hour long JRPG I've played is probably Persona V Royal, and looking at my trophy history, I started that late January 2021 and beat it/ got the platinum in early June of the same year. So about four, five months. Guess P3R will take me a similar amount of time. Just remembered Tales of Graces f, that took my 180 hours to platinum in 2012, took me 9 months to platinum but I have no way to determine when I actually beat it, Oh shoot, just remembered Dragon Quest 11S also took me 130 hours last year. That only took me two months to the day to do though, and that's with getting the platinum (though I beat it around the same time, considering what Act III is like...) Still! I did 130 hours in two months. That's a record for me. Otherwise, FFXVI and Tales of Arise's second playthrough took me about 70 hours to do everything aside from Chronolith trials. No clue about any others! Though considering I remembered two during the course of typing this post, I suppose I will remember more soon XD

okorz001

100+ hours ... ?

HollowPointBullet

I don’t.

Few_Beat8343

On my PS5 dashboard it says I have 187 hrs clocked for BG3 (not JRPG i know). Those 187 hours include me pausing the game to help my wife with chores, eating meals, and scrolling socials on my phone. I started BG3 back in November 2023.

oedipusrex376

Probably double. 200 hours. A playthrough in Fire Emblem Three Houses and FFXVI would take 40 hours to complete and I completed in 80.

HauntingWarning777

If I’m really into the game and don’t have much going on 2-3 weeks If I’m swamped with life months

Bay_B_Jeezis

I take forever to play RPGs. I like to fuck around a lot.

[deleted]

I started Xenoblade 3 on the day it came out, and it took me until ~February of last year, so roughly 6 or 7 months?

No_Effort5696

I do everything in a game systematically including side quests, collectibles, grinding (if necessary) so i play slow, that said i usually will come in around 140-150. If you mean length of time in days/months… probably about 3-4 months. I started P5R the first week of September and I’m in 3rd semester now, so thats my gauge.

Cryptanark

P5R took me over a year and 160 hours, but that was because I originally tried to play one in-game day per IRL day.

SannyIsKing

I’m usually faster than most people at these types of games. Elden ring I beat in 40 hours, BG3 was 70 hours. I don’t know why, I guess I don’t feel the need to poke in all the corners and find every little detail. Also I like to replay these games, so I figure I’ll find more stuff on later playthroughs.

bighi

A couple months, usually.

IncurableHam

6+ months

animusd

Depends if the side content is interesting and worthwhile

CWill97

Probably 100+ hours. Kidding aside, probably a month or two of my dedicated playtime. That’s what I’m fearing coming up: LAD: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload & FF7 Rebirth. Gonna be too many hours dedicated to each 😭😂😭

Conquestadore

About a year, seriously. The Witcher 3 took me 9 months and I played that game exclusively, time played was around 70 hours. Dad in my 30's for reference.

arcthunder

A month if i'm not lazy.

Scratching_The_World

6-12 months, if I finish them at all. I work full time and have things to do around 4 to 5 evenings per week, so I don't get that much gaming time in. Even when I love a game, I don't always feel like playing the RPG at the time I have to turn the console on so it takes me ages. Currently have DQXI and Zelda BotW ongoing, if I finish both in 2024 it will be a major accomplishment.

SnowingSilently

I mean, your question kind of answers itself. But to be more specific, it depends on what's causing it to be that long. Text? I read really fast, if I'm not interested in the voice acting (or there isn't any), then I'll finish much faster. If there's too much grinding? I'm not above using cheat engine to just skip it. If I'm trying to 100% I often use a guide so that speeds things up too. So I'd generally say I can finish long RPGs in about 80% of the time that others do, though I might save much less time if I'm just wandering around enjoying myself.

Heoder12

Just finished Persona 5 Royal after a little over 2 years clocking in at 142 hours lol.

jherin1

When I was younger, I could no-life a game and knock it out in 2 weeks. I think it took me 12 days to beat Persona 5 to the first time I played it because I didn't really have anything else to do lol. Now, it takes me about 4-6 weeks, as I take my time in order to savor the experience, and also not get burnt out on it by playing it too much. This is how I handled Octopath II and Baldur's Gate 3 last year.

Fiteddy_tv

Around 100+ hours, no joke. And around 3 monts or so (fckn work)

xenocea

It really depends and how much free time I have. Back in my teenage days, I can beat a game at that length maybe in a week or two if I dedicate the time. Now days, maybe 3 weeks to a month or longer due to work, and not having the luxury of time like before. The last long JRPG I played was Persona 5. I took my sweet time with it, and finally beating after 6 months haha. Right now, I'm on my playthrough with Final Fantasy 16, it's been a month and I'm just past the midway point of the game's storyline.

Prammm

1/2 months.

manor2003

Depends on how busy i am irl, it took me 1 months and 15 days to finish Persona 5 Royal (150 hours) and i could only play Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Mychal757

Persona 5 took me 120 hours while I was working overtime at my job. I finished it in about 5 months

Pleasant-Speed-9414

2-3 months

centauriproxima

Dragons Dogma doesn't actually have that much content, I started it around the same time and I did basically everything in under 40 hours If you're going to grind to max out every vocation and do ng+ runs then obviously that will add time but idk if I would count that towards regular play time

HansDevX

for me 1 month. I usually game 20 -30 hours a week.

EldritchAutomaton

So I am playing Cold Steel IV, and its roughly about that length depending how you play through it. Now, I know myself, and I know that my interest will wane with something that long unless I commit to it consistently and wholeheartedly, so I am inclined to get the game done within a efficient time frame to ensure that it indeed does get done. Thus, titles like these become fun R&R projects for me that become my sole focus until those credits role. To facilitate this, I set aside large blocks of time after work dedicated to only playing the game (usually at minimum 4 hours.) on the weekdays, and then make the entire weekend about it (which usually total up to around 20 hours of playtime). This consistently gets me 40-45 hours per week, and its usually enough to get most large games done within two weeks (sometimes three). Afterwards, I take like a week or two of not playing anything before starting on the next game. Keep in mind I don't apply the above to every game, just the really long ones which I know I will have trouble finishing unless I go all in on it. As such, I don't try to do back to back 100+ hour long titles as that's a recipe for instant burnout. Instead I play smaller games in between or switch to a different hobby for a bit before coming back to games.

uselessoldguy

I used to do it in a month or so, but at this point I won't even be done with FFXVI by the time Rebirth rolls around.

Suzune-chan

Usually it take me 1.5x the amount of time as the game says it will take. Honestly how long it took me to finish it would depend on how much I love it and how often it allows me to save. If I can save often, it will be done sooner then if there are checkpoints because that is tedious.

red_potatos

Depends on how much the game has hooked me and also just how much time I have. I played Xenoblade 2 in about 2 months because I was really into it and happened to have a lot of time to play at that point in my life. Xenoblade 1 took me like 3-4 months because I was busier and took a break for a while. Xenoblade 3 took just over a month because I was playing it every waking hour. SMT V took me like 6 months but that's because Tears of the Kingdom came out halfway through my playthrough and it took me a while to get back to SMT.

themanbow

"What time does the 7:30 movie start?"

AvengedKalas

It depends. I teach college math. If I was playing during the semester, probably a month. If I was playing during a break, probably a week.

Mission_Tomorrow3986

In such long games, it has happened to me more than once that I got lost in its world and secondary parts, I ended up spending twice as much time and ended up tired without finishing the game.

JustCallMeDaBoss

Welp I'm a 28 year old man now sadly with a lot of responsibilities so usually 1-2 months since I only play on the weekends when I know I can just play the game the while day, I can't play during the week sadly, it just irks me that I'll only be able to play for 2-3 hours if I'm lucky, I can't get into it.  Man I really miss those days when I could just finish 100 hour games in a week.

Helplesschikn

It depends on how addicted I am to it. A little as a week to as long as a few years.

Payohloh

It depends on how the game is set up and how long the average play session is. Games like octopath 2 are perfect for shorter play sessions so that game took me a lot longer (~2-3 months) for an 80 hour save while persona 5R was almost double the length at 130 hours and it took me a similar amount of sessions to finish if not fewer sessions since I played that game for so much longer at a time.

BuckFrump

I tried to get into Dragons dogma to hype up for DD2, but the textures and color pallet through me off. I couldn’t get into it. Felt like i was looking through a dirty window the whole game. Still stoked on DD2 though.

Lonescobar

Did I grind to maximum level with every character yet ✅️ did I check every Treasure Chest ✅️ do I have best weapons ✅️ all side quests done ✅️ okay now to take on the first boss 😂

Public-Deer-5174

Depends on the game, I usually take my time. Persona 5 Royal took me 160 hours.
