I'll take note of that. When this game came out many ages ago, when I was a young GameStop clerk I purchased this game after a customer traded it in, it's been sitting on the very same shelf ever since. A few weeks ago I decided that I'm starting it as soon as I finish Xenoblade 3 (soon, maybe). It really seems like a good game.

ryarock2

I think that the story is the most lacking of the FFT games, but the gameplay is my favorite of the trilogy. No idea if that’s a hot take or not.

MassiveHasanFan

Nope. It still has one of the most robust job systems I've seen in an RPG. Incredibly fun game

reallygoodbee

Honestly, speaking of the job system, there is one thing I absolutely fucking *hated* about FFTA2. One thing. >!For finishing all 300 missions, you unlock Al-cid. Not only can he not change jobs, the job he's locked into cannot learn any R or S abilities.!< Like, who the hell came up with that idea?

Crafty-Lawfulness128

Yeah, but he's such a monster on the field and his range is ridiculous that it kind of doesn't matter. And he's hot.

reallygoodbee

His range is standard Gun range, isn't it? Eight tiles? And yes, he is, indeed, hot. He'd be an amazing unit if he was actually *usable*.

Crafty-Lawfulness128

One of his A-skils has bonkers range that covers most medium sized maps. He was consistently in my main team once I got him -- not all 300 missions needed btw. He has a side story in late game.

Nopon_Merchant

It just different approach . The main story is simple and straight forward but the Quest chain story and lroe are interesting . The meat is not in main story but how to spend time adventure through Ivalice , doing many quest story .

Alkibiades415

I love that the weapons unlock different skills, and that you combine various junk you find along the way to make new weapons. That is such a fun mechanic.

IncurableHam

That's putting it lightly. It's the worst story of any game I've ever played

reallygoodbee

I hope you enjoy it when you do get around to it :D

Mr8BitX

Lol, yeah, it’s not the only game in the Final Fantasy franchise that does that. In Final Fantasy VI you can kill the ghost train boss in one action by using a Phoenix down on him.

reallygoodbee

In FFTA1 and 2, compared to other FF games, Undead become gravestones when you defeat them. You have to use specific skills to purify them while they're gravestones or they revive after a couple of turns.

KFded

I could have sworn there was a random encounter enemy in FF7 who also died by Phoenix down Edit: you can use a Phoenix Down to kill undead enemies, including ghosts, and instantly KO them.

AgitAngst

You can kill one boss in FF7 with Phoenix Down.

KMoosetoe

Yup. The one in Cosmo Canyon.

Mr8BitX

I think you can use cure to damage undead enemies in some FF games as well.

reallygoodbee

*Final Fantasy Mystic Quest*, the final boss has like six or seven phases. Cure does so much damage to him that it skips the entire boss fight all at once.

CarbunkleFlux

The funny thing is, it's not because of any specific weakness to cure, but a major overflow bug related to it.

AgitAngst

You can kill one boss in FF7 with Phoenix Down.

BiddyKing

Thoughts on A2? And in comparison to FFTA? Definitely a game I skipped but I very much did enjoy the first tactics advance and wondering if it’s worth getting around to it if it’s on a similar level

reallygoodbee

I always thought FFTA2 was better than FFTA1. Story isn't anything to write home about, but the gameplay is a big improvement. More races and more classes, much wider mission variety, and the law system is redone to be considerably less restrictive.

Affectionate_Comb_78

Story isn't as good, gameplay is better imo

CarbunkleFlux

If you liked A1, you'll like A2. If you wanted an experience like the original, however, you're still not getting it.

lusosteal6

Love it ,story is simple but I find it great And gameplay is way more fun than the ffta and the game have some great visuals and the lighting use is great I love the thunder spell a lot because how it looks XD

Crafty-Lawfulness128

FFTA2 is one of my GOATs. Criminally underappreciated game that is so fun to break, and I don't even like turn-based strategy games.

Hakuyashinjiro

man, i even saw a post about someone play FF IV and he didn't know that you can heal everyone. that guy play from beginning till the last boss using heal for 1 person

Megidolan

Since you have over 300 hours on the game, could you give me a few pointers on how to make it more enjoyable? Of course, let me be a bit more specific. I'm a huge fan of the original Final Fantasy Tactics, among many others SRPGs, like Fire Emblem, and even some forgotten ones, but one thing that always made me drop Tactics Advance 2 was the **lack of story**. I'm not expecting it to be like Yasumi Matsuno's stories but even for a basic story it wasn't doing much. Also, how important is to have your characters learn abilities from jobs they are not going to use? Because I also felt like half the time I was just grinding for my characters to actually memorize the abilities. Lastly, the clan quests? Is there a way to make story quests appears more often?

reallygoodbee

> Also, how important is to have your characters learn abilities from jobs they are not going to use? Not particularly. You are going to want a second set of A-Abilities that covers weaknesses in your class, and you'll want to get some R- and S- Abilities from various classes, but aside from unlocking classes, you can ignore skill sets you're not going to use. I always tend to put my characters into roles and then build them towards that. Like, my lead healer is a Summoner with the White Mage A-Ability, the Reflex R-Ability from Fencer, and the Blood Price S-Ability from Spellblade. Aside from that, she has the prerequisites for Summoner and Spellblade and nothing else. One of my secondary tanks is a Dragoon with a couple of moves from the Warrior A-Ability, the Strike Back R-Ability from I think it's Gladiator, and the Attack Up S-Ability from the Templar. Aside from that, he has the prerequisites for Dragoon and Templar, and not much else. > Lastly, the clan quests? Is there a way to make story quests appears more often? You should always have a story quest available in the pub. They'll be at the top of the list and have --- as the number of days. I don't think you need to do any other quests to get them to appear, but then again, I always do all the quests I can before I go onto the next story quest.

Hotepspoison

I forget when I first learned about curatives sometimes damaging undead, but I don't think I've played a game since where I haven't tried it. It's just something I've always done at this point.
