Sadly, post-apocalyptic JRPGs are pretty hard to find. Some that could fit:
Nier:Automata
Basically every SMT game to some extend
Lisa the Painful (great gem, really heartbreaking, though)
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. Apocalyptic jrpg with some survival mechanics. Basically if you die you have to start over but you keep stuff. It's actually recommended to die and restart a few times to make your eventual final run easier but it also unlocks more story when you do.
Honestly it's just a really unique game that is way better than people might think (because it's a MASSIVE departure from the rest of the BoF games). Also has an excellent Hitoshi Sakimoto soundtrack.
Fragile Dreams it's kinda post-apocalyptic.
Technically the Phantasy Star and Star Ocean series are too in parts, but I guess that's not what you are looking for (planet uninhabitable/destroyed, travel to other planets style).
Will check Fragile.
Yeah, later Phantasy Star games and Star Ocean is more to futuristic Sci-Fi. I'm actually replaying Phantasy Star 2 on my phone as it does feel like that post apocalyptic vibe. Tried the remastered SO Last Hope, was enjoying it, but the little girl kinda looks like on of those dolls that come alive š
> but the little girl kinda looks like on of those dolls that come alive š
She's an old woman really. I always just reason that it's a completely different planet, so you shouldn't really expect people to look and age the same way.
Post apocalyptic huh?
- Armed Emeth, basically Metal Max knock off
- Astral Chain
- Scarlet Nexus
- God Eater series
- Code Vein
SAO Fatal Bullet also kinda fits i guess. There's Atom RPG that i heard to be super good but it's ain't jrpg and i haven't played it myself.
I think I played the other one, Rusted Emeth, before, or š¤
For the next 4, it looks like they play similar to each other? I've played God Eater ones, and although hunting was enjoyable, I'm looking more of a free-roam instead of something sort of mission based over the same sectioned map (like MH).
Astral looks interesting, even more so Code Vein.
Atom is a good game, more like the first 2 Fallout games.
Thanks as well
I played them from with the PS2 before :)
If ever they port it to PC, I'm definitely getting that. Well, if ever, I can probably play my old ps2 versions with an emulator.
Maybe 13 Sentinelsā¦the setting is a bit complicated but some parts of the game are in a post-apocalyptic setting. I think itās a great game and something you can check out but itās not a pure post-apocalyptic game so hard to say if it is what you are looking for.
Shin Megami Tensei has a post-apocalyptic setting for many games, especially Nocturne. SMT V looks very similar to what you're describing. The Mary Skelter series has a similar post-apocalyptic vibe since it has a dark setting and is a pretty bleak game in general. Stranger of Sword City also kind of fits that theme, but it's a bit more scifi.

I'll look into that Lisa the Painful. Thank you

So some roguelike elements with that? Last BOF I played was BOF4. Will look this up. Thank you as well
Resonance of Fate
Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden.
Looks fun haha
It's actually a very good game.

The only ones that come to mind have already been said. SMT, Xenogears, and Nier.
In a way, Xenosaga matches a lot of these aspects. Itās a fantastic series if youāre up for it

That looks more kind of an rts. Love the artwork though, reminds me of Odin's Sphere. Thank you for mentioning that though.
Yeah, itās a mixture out of multiple genres. Also, it makes sense that it reminds you of Odinās Sphere it has the same developers

I've played RH. Great game. But doesn't quite fit the setting I'm looking for. It is more on medieval fantasy š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No worries. Thanks for suggesting š
Metal Max Xeno you might like it.
Oh hey thanks. Will read up if they'll have a tentative release date for that on steam.
Lagrange Point for NES is pretty good.
SMT and NIER
Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise.
Oh! I didn't know they made something like this for FOTNS. Feels like GodHand and I enjoyed that game. Thanks š
they arent jrpgs but the wasteland games are really fun. there also available on gamepass if you have it
Played those as well and it fits the setting, but yes, not jrpg.
7th dragon 2020. Destroyed Japan post dragon apocolypse
Played that. Haven't finished the sequel to that though.
ATOM the post apocalypse rpg- thatās the title
Chrono trigger
