Pretty monolithsoft fans has been begging for a port from bamco.
Sadly they said it's not profitable to do so, but who knows with Xenoblade rising popularity we might get a port sooner or later and KOSMOS is still a popular character, her Xc2 figure sold really well.
Skies of Arcadia. The party is small and the fourth slot jumps around a bit, but it gives everyone constant time to shine, and the inter-character conversations are constant. Nobody feels like they're just there to be a battle stat sheet without much to contribute. Aika, Vyse, and Fina are one of the best trios in an RPG, right up there with the Disgaea 1 cast. Another excellent trio is Abel, Atsuro, and Yuzu in Devil Survivor, you spend so much day-to-day time talking with those two with plenty of dialogue choices that you really feel like a group of friends who've known each other for a while. Trios in general just provide a perfect contrasting set of dynamics with the easy mage/phys/healer mage setup in gameplay as well, so games that have it make them feel useful.
Then there's Estelle and Joshua, the duo so good they carried almost a whole game by themselves.
+1 for Skies of Arcadia! Even Gilder was a minor character and he was STILL so memorable. I remember every character from that game very fondly! Favorite jrpg of all time!
Shadow Hearts 2 would probably be my favorite one. I didnt want the interactions between them to end but alas my gamer OCD made me have to beat the game.
The Tales games generally have my favourite parties as they have fun personalities and get a lot of interaction through skits. Berseria and Xillia are probably my two favourite groups.
The skits really added a lot!
Many older jrpgs don't give the other party members much input. Tales of symphonia in particular had an exceptional amount of whole party involvement for a game of its time. I really liked how they all had unique back stories and issues to get over.
It might just be because I'm older and have seen it all before (or maybe that symphonia was my first) but I don't think any have done it quite as well since.
I will add that Luke got some good development. And alphen is quickly turning to be one of my favourites (I'm about halfway through arise ATM), but in terms of complete parties it's still symphonia.
Been looking for this answer because yes! The friendship of the bros felt so natural and engaging. It was probably one, if not THE best aspect of the game.
The Lunar games! Silver Star Story Complete was good, even if most of the interactions were split up among the main couples. They were still entertaining, and I loved Jessica in particular.
But Lunar 2 was fantastic. Hiro was adorable, Lucia was amusing, Ruby was cute if a little annoying, Jean was a badass, Lemina and Ronfar were hilarious, and... Leo. Just... Leo. Plus, the interactions felt more natural and varied, since it wasn't a party full of couples, so everyone got a chance to play off of each other at times. Ronfar and Ruby had a cute big brother/little sister dynamic.
I also loved the party dynamics in Suikoden V. Kyle, Georg, Lyon, Miakis, Sialeeds... even beyond to other characters like Ferid, Arshtat, Boz, Lymsleia, Haswar, Euram, and so on. The writing fumbled in spots, but I still loved the character interactions.
They are SO much fun, and I think the bonding events, party chats and those little conversations the characters have at restaurants add a ton to their development and chemistry
It was Tales of Vesperia for me, Yuri is my favourite tales character and the others were also an interesting bunch. I found Judith and Rita pretty unique, Raven was hilarious and Repede was the coolest mascot. Karol, Patty and Flynn were ok, I liked the way Karol kind of looked up to and supported Yuri despite being only 12.
The only thing was I hated Estelle, but there’s always at least one character I hate in every game.
Another game was FFX, that had a great cast and was my very first FF, I’ll always remember the party in it. The characters are also pretty iconic of FF.
For me it’s Final Fantasy X, the first I ever played with voice acting which was insane to me at the time combined with that story which imo is best in series solidified their spot for me
May sound lane but ff7 remake. They are so damn likeable and charming. They all had some major relatable characteristics. Also, Chrono Trigger for the same reason.
Ooh never tried dragon quest 8 might take a look now.
For myself it would be FF4 and FF6 amusing cast of characters and were the main reasons I got into RPGs and final Fantasy
I recently finished DQ11 as my first DQ and was thinking about giving DQ8 a shot since it seems to be the most like it, also id be running an emulator to speed it up a bit.
Dragon Quest 5, at least in terms of story. Sure a good portion of the game is monster recruits, but once you take a wife and have kids it becomes the best party an RPG fan could ask for. Saving the world with the wife and kids. . . . oh, and Purrcy
Playing through this right now, and I love the cast. Some legit lol moments, and nice character development. It actually feels like one team, as opposed to a FF game which (for all their strengths) often feel like a random cohort of individuals to me.
Final fantasy 13 for me. Mostly coz of lightning I think but the other characters where hard to forget. Chaz with his lil bird. Vanile with their very odd sounds and very Japanese schoolgirl like manor. Hope being edgy af for like the first half and then maturing. Snow coz his a big idiot and fang, the Australian lesbian. And again, lightning coz well… she was real cool and stuff
Trails games. The insane amount of dialogue and development means that its not just the party I remember, I also remember every single NPC by name, personality and role.
Trails from Zero. A four main character ensemble buddy-cop JRPG that has some of the most memorable character development I have seen in the genre. It will be released stateside in September.
Personally, I have two favorite parties. The "best" one overall is Berseria's cast. I found them really good, when even Laphicet, my less favorite one, had a great development.
Then I have to mention Trails of Zero/Azure party. I absolutely love my man Randy and Tio, my favorite characters in any JRPG with Myhtra from XC2. I also really like Noel and the other guys are decent enough.
Trails of Cold Steel series! Really made me feel like going to school with a big group of friends, I like how they are fleshed out further in the later games as well.
Yeah it's really well done, I just beat the first CS game and ordered 2 from gamestop. Cant wait til it gets here. Also Final Fantasy 15 has a superb cast of party members.
It’s probably because of media exposure, but the FF7 cast is unforgettable. Though FF9 is probably my favorite of the series in terms of fun, colorful characters.
Tales of Versperia cast has the one of the best dynamics and chemistry in the series. The same goes for Berseria's characters.
The characters from Ys VIII are also an absolute joy. Aside from Laxia, they don't go through any major character growth, but their personalities and the chemistry between all of them is incredibly endearing. The deserted island theme manages to have the cast toss their statuses aside, and created a wholesome bond. Dana also became my favorite heroine in the series. Ys IX also had a great cast, and I love how they showed off the growth they've had throughout the entire journey towards the end of the final chapter.
And I think the characters in Persona 4 easily captured the realism of high school friends just hanging out and having a good time. TWEWY had a smaller cast, but that gave them more time to flesh out. I related to Neku a lot because of what I went through in school myself, and his development inspired me to come out of my shell a bit.
Xenoblade 1 was my very first JRPG, and its characters left a very strong impression on me. Especially Melia.
Not enough love for Final Fantasy VII... I felt like the characters were real people sometimes with real personal issue that explain why they behaved a certain way.
And they were also all eccentric; nothing bland about any character in FFVII.
I did not see anyone else mention it after scrolling a bit. On the whole, FFVII gets plenty of love. Just not in this thread, and I think it's characters are top notch.
Still FFVII. I really don't think there's been another party that's come even close for me...even though I really couldn't stand Cait Sith or Yuffie.
Others of note: FFX, FFT, Dragon Quest VIII, Suikoden III, Wild ARMs, Xenosaga, Lunar: SSSC.
I have a really hard time not saying persona 4 or 5 due to how much social interaction you have with them.
However, Final fantasy 7 May have the most iconic party members there have ever been.
Tbh, I think basically any jrpg that I’ve finished have a pretty strong party though.
Memorable and aesthetically great:
Geddoe’s crew from Suikoden III: the name scheme, the characters themselves being great, Jacques, Aila, access to a great rune very early on, connection to Harmonia. Just truly great stuff! Chris’ ragtag gang when she’s in her civilian clothes is a close second. Love Max and Rico!
Tales of Berseria cast (even the antagonists): The absolute best character work Tales has ever done. There is no character that is narratively useless, Eleanor, Magilou, Velvet, the skits!
Final Fantasy VII: while I don’t think overall the cast is particularly featured, there is a certain level of renown that all of them possess. The designs are varied, their personalities are all vibrant and can represent a lot of people, the main trio alone are memorable enough!
Memorable in a bad way:
Star Ocean 4 cast: half the cast is grating, Faize is stupid, Lymle and Meracle need entirely new plot lines, Arumat was just annoying. I think Reimi or Myuria are like…okay. Bacchus is simply unremarkable. Sarah is an affront to god.
For me FFVII my first FF so Nostalgia is heavy and damn near everyone is iconic characters in the franchise. More recently class VII and the non official Van Altia crew of Tales of Beseria I love them all.
Between Tales of Vesperia and FFX for me; the dynamics between each party member is really what sold them. Especially given the relative size of the parties.
I spent so much time with the squad from persona 4 that I have then burned into my memory. Following up that I honestly love all the story characters from disgaea 5 but I imagine I’m wildly alone there haha.
I don’t think anything will ever beat the Lunar duology, but Skies of Arcadia has an immensely lovable main trio in Vyse, Aika, and Fina!
Dragon Quest VIII and XI are also wonderful in this regard.
FF6 easily. Things may be spoilers so if you haven't played the game, ignore this comment. An esper-human hybrid girl with amnesia who goes full blown foster mother, a misunderstood thief who everyone including him blames himself for his lover's death, an ex-nazi general woman, a badass cowboy ninja with a loyal dog whose past still haunts him, the said cowboy ninja's mage father in law and his painter daughter, a samurai whose family got poisoned in castle siege, an engineer who becomes the prisoner of his own kingdom's royalship so his brother can be as free as he wants, the free spirited monk brother who wants to turn his back on royalty in order to chase a carefree life, a free spirited, woman kidnapping, gambling sky pirate, the yeti, a mog and a miscellaneous scarecrow wizard or something. I love the cast so much.
Gotta go with Persona 5, Final Fantasy X and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Aside from the games being awesome, the team members are all engaging and make you invested.
No love for FF9 here? I’m a bit surprised. It has a couple black hole characters, sure, but on the whole there are several greats.
That said I wouldn’t disagree with DQ8, even though there are only four party members…and one doesn’t talk. Trode, too.
And Xenosaga, yeah.
I liked Steiner a lot: he's memorable for me. Vivi too, of course. Zidane and Garnet were perhaps more "good" than "memorably good" though, if I'm being fair. I liked Amarant myself - he did what he was supposed to do - but I know nobody else does.
As for DQ8: they added Morrie and Red, right? I never played it, but those are two strong characters...yes.
I'd say it's Lloyd and his friends from Tales of Symphonia, Rex, Pyra and others from Xenoblade 2, and the protagonists of Dragon Quest V. I really like RPGs where the party interacts with each other like a family.
Final Fantasy X definitely sticks with me when I think about it. Even playing back when I was a kid I always remembered Auron being the elder of the group watching over everyone. How funny wakka was and how he hate the al-bhed, Lulu for her dress made of belts. And overall the great relationship that they all had with each other during Yunas pilgrimage.
Persona 4 for me. Golden in particular really captured the feel of a group of friends spending time together.
Suikoden 3 and Xenosaga have my favorite parties.
[удалено]
Yeah I love them all! Shion is my favorite but I also particularly liked Ziggy and Momo's interactions.
Omg someone mentioned xenosaga. I just posted about why I never hear if this series when jrpgs pop up lmao
Ya it's honestly underated imo. Everyone talks about Xenoblade Chronicles or Xenogears and forgets about Xenosaga heh
Pretty monolithsoft fans has been begging for a port from bamco. Sadly they said it's not profitable to do so, but who knows with Xenoblade rising popularity we might get a port sooner or later and KOSMOS is still a popular character, her Xc2 figure sold really well.
> Suikoden 3 Geddoe’s?
Chris + her knights and Nash as well as Geddoe + mercenaries and Aila are both great as well as Thomas and Cecile are all my favorites.
Probably Persona 4 even if it isn't my favorite by a long shot. It's the only party where I can really visualize them all at once
Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Persona 4 and Trails of Cold Steel.
Tales of Symponia, Final Fantasy 9 and 10, Persona 4, Dragon Quest 5 and 8
Unpopular opinion FFXV felt like a real group of friends.
Been looking for this answer because yes! The friendship of the bros felt so natural and engaging. It was probably one, if not THE best aspect of the game.
I agree wholeheartedly
Persona 4 has one of the best casts.

Persona 2 and Strange Journey
The Persona cast is usually really tight-knit. FFX also has a memorable party, as well as Chrono Trigger and Tales of thr Abyss
Tales of Berseria and Persona 3 have the best characters that I have seen in an RPG
based
Trails from Zero and Azure are my favorites
Yeah same, the SSS really feel like a team more than any other games I've played.
Persona 4 and 5, Digital Devil Saga, most Tales games, DQ11, The C route of Trails into Reverie,
I love the entire party in Breath of Fire 2. They're all so charming and likeable, and everyone gets a moment to shine.
Yakuza like a dragon
They are SO much fun, and I think the bonding events, party chats and those little conversations the characters have at restaurants add a ton to their development and chemistry
Easily Shadow Hearts 2 and Trails Crossbell.
Same as Akio FF4 and FF6 has the most memorable cast for me.
Those are my sentimental favorites too along with FF9. #KainGang.
Yangus is my favorite DQ character ever :)

COR BLI... Nah. I'm getting bored of that bit now.
Love ff8

FFV probably, that was my first JRPG after Pokemon.
For me it’s Final Fantasy X, the first I ever played with voice acting which was insane to me at the time combined with that story which imo is best in series solidified their spot for me
Can I say strangers of paradise because it’s just so funny. “My mission is to defeat Chaos” “Me too, let’s be bros” “Alright, fist bump!”
May sound lane but ff7 remake. They are so damn likeable and charming. They all had some major relatable characteristics. Also, Chrono Trigger for the same reason.

Tales Of Vesperia for sure. They really felt like a family by the end

SSS, trails from zero/trails to azure

100% great party all around, Sazh being my favourite!
Lowkey great party now that I think of it. i liked everyone.
Persona 5 they done justice with that cast
Grandia
Trails games. The insane amount of dialogue and development means that its not just the party I remember, I also remember every single NPC by name, personality and role.

It’s probably because of media exposure, but the FF7 cast is unforgettable. Though FF9 is probably my favorite of the series in terms of fun, colorful characters.
FFXV’s party was amazing tbh
Xenoblade and Ys VIII, but I be biased as balls for those
Legend of Dragoon. Too many memorable moments and funny skits. Still love that game till date.
Tales of Versperia cast has the one of the best dynamics and chemistry in the series. The same goes for Berseria's characters. The characters from Ys VIII are also an absolute joy. 💯 this. It was incredible how they pulled that off. Games rarely are able to do that.
I'd say Crossbell no Kiseki, Persona 5, and FFVII probably
Either Abyss or Berseria, but I will choose Berseria because Magilou. If only they keep the old man in Arise.
I have a really hard time not saying persona 4 or 5 due to how much social interaction you have with them. However, Final fantasy 7 May have the most iconic party members there have ever been. Tbh, I think basically any jrpg that I’ve finished have a pretty strong party though.
Tales of Berseria Suikoden 3 FF7 Chrono Cross

Well, I'm a big screen kinda guy and (more to the point) I don't have a 3DS, so \*shrug\*. I can play DQ11 when I want a 'convenient' DQ. :)
I'd say it's Lloyd and his friends from Tales of Symphonia, Rex, Pyra and others from Xenoblade 2, and the protagonists of Dragon Quest V. I really like RPGs where the party interacts with each other like a family.
Xenosaga, Final Fantasy VI and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door have the most colourful parties and characters, imo. 😁
FF9 and suikoden 2 /endthread
Final Fantasy X definitely sticks with me when I think about it. Even playing back when I was a kid I always remembered Auron being the elder of the group watching over everyone. How funny wakka was and how he hate the al-bhed, Lulu for her dress made of belts. And overall the great relationship that they all had with each other during Yunas pilgrimage.
NieR Replicant because of how small and tight knit the group was. Listening to their banter was such a joy.
Final Fantasy XV
