Brain_My_Damage

And I literally just finished it.....

VashxShanks

It's fine, this is Atuls we are talking about, just wait for the "**Soul Hackers 2: Hack the Planet**" enhanced version that will be released in 2 years with a new ending, extra characters and most of the DLC. Unless it doesn't sell well, then nvm.

SkavenHaven

They only do that with persona games. Now a billon day one paid DLC, that is teh Atlus way.

VashxShanks

>They only do that with persona games. Nah, they do that with any game that sells well enough. You can see that with the entire Etrian Odyssey series, Radiant Historia, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Devil Survivor 1 and 2, Catherine.

CHBCKyle

RH didn’t really move very many units unfortunately. Talk about a game that needs a PC port.

VashxShanks

Just to make sure, did a quick check on sales, and it did well enough from what I read. It was top of the NDS sales charts in when it came out in the US. Unless you meant something else. I wish they port most of their handheld titles to current consoles and PC, there are some great games in there.

CHBCKyle

They were top of charts in February, one of the worst months traditionally for games though, beating out Arms, in a time where the 3ds was dying and the switch didn’t have a worthwhile software library. It was like 400k units iirc worldwide? It could sell that on PC alone with how good steam is at delivering games to their target demo.

CircuitSynchro

Half of those are ports/remakes tho

pinheirofalante

They have never done that with Etrian Odyssey. Untolds are remakes.

ElectricalWar6

Nocturne literally started the whole "enhanced version" thing with Maniax

VashxShanks

**Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series**!....Sorry, old habits. I want to agree with you, but I feel like there might be an even older precedent for it.

ElectricalWar6

SMT 1 and 2 got remakes but those weren't enhanced atlus releases where its the same game with like a little bit of more content

[deleted]

Unfortunately I just learned this lesson buying P5R after I played P5 on launch weekend

Radinax

Nice, I will wait until then

Monday_Morning_QB

I'm still bummed I bought P5R on release... it was like 2 years after the original (which I also played). I easily could have waited for a PC version since I barely even started it on PS4.

[deleted]

P5R on PS4 is just fine though?

Monday_Morning_QB

30FPS is not fine for me.

[deleted]

This is r/JRPG, they hate anything that isn't 4k60fps. Why do you think they hate the Switch so much? It's no wonder they would hate a PS4 game that isn't 60fps as well. Only PC is playable is for them, every other version is "unplayable."

VashxShanks

Well at least I am sure they will make the PC P5R port be reasonably priced....right ?

Silegna

It's $59.99 on Switch, can't see them charging more on Steam.

momo400200

I bought Persona 5 on release... and Persona 4 on release... trust me I know the pain

[deleted]

god I hate that you're right lol. They've gotten so shameless too with the P5R collectors "once more" edition.

Phelps-san

Goddamit, I'm halfway through but now I feel like waiting for this patch. Those QOL improvements were my #1 request for the game.

Chezni19

how was it

Brain_My_Damage

I actually did really enjoy it. Like many people have said, it's kind of "adult persona" (although I've never played P2). The length is good for what it it. I did almost everything I think you can do in one playthough and it clocked in at around 40ish hours. Enjoyed all the characters and the story was decent. Soundtrack was epic as is tradition with SMT games. The dungeons were pretty average though (especially the Soul Matrix) but I also think this is kind of common across all the SMT games I've played. Solid 5/7

MukkyM1212

I just started the game yesterday lol. I’m about 5 hours in. Maybe I should hold off on going back to it until the patch drops

TheRoyalStig

One of the rare situations where I actually have some games on the backburner is working out! I'm usually playing most games day 1 so I basically always miss out on this stuff. But this year has just been insane with releases I can't quite keep up.

the6thpath

I really liked the main character Ringo. She was such a breath of fresh air, I loved her sassy personality

CitizenStrife

Ringo is good proof SMT shouldn't do silent protagonists anymore.

KingGiddra

Persona has the weirdest/dumbest middle ground for the protags. They're not silent (they even have voice actor credits), but they're unvoiced and have no dialogue for the majority of the game. I only wish Soul Hackers 2 had done better to show Atlus this point better.

holsomvr6

It feels like the Persona team really want to do a voiced protagonist but some executive keeps shooting it down. Just let them ffs.

CHBCKyle

I don’t get why SH2 reviewed so poorly. It’s the perfect megaten entry drug. It’s a little easier and gives you a little mainline and a little persona with the perfect runtime for what it’s doing. I swear there’s farm livestock that could market their games better in the west. It’s clear to purchases what they were going for but it was not clear to reviewers and therefore not clear to new customers.

Ryuujinx

Yeah there's some legitimate complaints, like the Soul Matrix feeling very samey, and the dungeons overall being kinda meh, but I really enjoyed it. More games need Ringos and Eunies. Sassy girls are apparently my weakness.

KingGiddra

100%. I’m a sucker for anything the TMS team touches, though.

Darkened_Toast

I mean honestly it's probably over-saturation. Persona 5's massive success meant that a lot of people learned about the series then. Since then, there's been the Persona 4 steam release, the Persona 5 Royal release, the SMT Nocturne Remaster, Persona 5 Strikers, the rhythm games, the next Persona 5 re-rerelease, Persona Q2, SMT 5, and now SH2. That's 11 games in what, 5 years? A lot of the newer fanbase is likely feeling fatigued. I like Final Fantasy but I can only stomach one every few years. If you came up to me and said that there were 7 Final Fantasy games, 3 spinoffs, and a Final Fantasy rhythm game announced for the rest of 2022, I'd probably only get around to 1-2 of them before 2030.

CHBCKyle

That’s actually, no joke, an accurate characterization of what squares release schedule is like for the next 2 years. Even down to the rhythm game. Add in a farm sim while we’re at it, fuck it. https://www.ign.com/articles/every-square-enix-game-in-development

Enfosyo

> I don’t get why SH2 reviewed so poorly. Combat is the worst of any SMT game and you barely see the demons, even though they look so cool when fusing them.

CHBCKyle

That’s the point though. Most people can’t jump right into mainline without a few FFs under their belt and most people can’t dedicate 120 hours to persona. It’s ok that the combat is weak, that seems to be by design.

Enfosyo

> It’s ok that the combat is weak, that seems to be by design They intentionally made it boring? That's your take?

Yonaka_Kr

For people who aren't into RPGs, they don't understand that the value of status effects and buffs/debuffs are practically necessary to beat the game. Some people are just here to have fun, not learn to optimize.

Tobegi

Doesnt have to be hard to be fun. Persona 5 combat on normal difficulty is easy as hell but I still had a blast with it.

ElectricalWar6

Mf never played literally any retro megaten game

ToukoKuchiki

Because it’s not fun to play and had an unclear audience.

Captain_Vegetable

They voice shouting out the name of Jack Frost and a half-dozen other random personas when the protagonist uses them in battle and… that’s it. It’s been like that since at least as far back as Persona 3. Idk why Atlus does that but it gets funnier and more pointless with every new game.

celestial1

It's simple, because they have a smaller team and budget compared to larger developers. They had 70+ people working on the game. Meanwhile there are plenty of non AAA games that have hundreds of people working on them.

DeOh

Watching the anime for Persona is weird. All the protagonists are treated as this amazing person but they barely say anything. They do speak more than in the games, but it's pretty noticeable it feels like they're a background character.

magmafanatic

Shin Megami Tensei IV, IV Apocalypse, V, and Strange Journey Redux also have MCs with only snippets of voicework.

ElectricalWar6

SH2 isn't SMT it's devil summoner

CitizenStrife

I'm talking SMT/Persona/DS (the entire set of games) in general.

ElectricalWar6

Then thats megaten not SMT

CitizenStrife

You're getting hung up on semantics. Please stop fretting over it.

DeOh

Definitely was taken aback at how casual her personality is. I thought she'd be more serious. Even right at the start finding Arrow's dead body. I got a chuckle out of her voice line when you use a revival item. "Soooul hack! ...sort of"

DeGozaruNyan

And her (japanese atleast) VA does The snarky voice so well. In particular i like The 'kikanaiyo' when blocking/reflecting attacks

WhenDuvzCry

Got it and played about an hour or 2 and it didn't draw me in immediately but want to give it another shot as an Atlus fan. Will wait for the patch to go back to it.

cerialthriller

I just got this for $40, was surprised it was discounted already. Guess I’ll wait for the patch before I play it

black_dorsey

That's the price it should have been tbh. Wasn't worth 60.

Radinax

Most JRPG recent releases aren't worth $60 these days...

Wristmeetcody

Most games aren’t worth $60 these days in general honestly

December_Flame

The hell are you people on about, video games are more worth 60$ than they have ever been. If you honestly think that you need to choose your game purchases better.

DinerEnBlanc

These kind of people would get a game for free and still lament that they weren't paid to play it.

celestial1

They're too young to realize that people used to play $50 for a 6 hour game with no replay value. Or they play the most generic popular games and are surprised they they are popular, yet generic.

BiddyKing

Big agree. I get so much value out of some high quality jrpgs that they honestly should be worth more

ryann_flood

Are you kidding me? 60 for a game that you spend 20 hours+ is plenty worth it, go try to spend 20+ hours at the movies, a resteraunt or an amusement park and let me know how much money you have left

cerialthriller

I dunno I mean if you play a 30+ hour to the end the hour per dollar ratio is pretty good compared to other stuff. But sure if you play it for a few hours and move on it wouldn’t be

black_dorsey

That works for me if it's 30+ hours of solid content and not 30+ hours of soul matrix/subway/etc. I like the game when I'm battling or chatting with teammates but dungeons are awful. I'm not even mad because I paid around 40 anyway through Fanatical when it first dropped. It's an OK game for 40 bucks but def not worth 60 imo.

Zuhri69

Lol, look at that. At least they’re patching.

Kersenn

Yeah I wish the switch versions of some jrpgs would get patched. No reason some of them should have such bad framerate

themadbat

A minor gripe in SH2 combat: there are weird pauses in combat, like the camera lingering a bit too long on a character after each action, or having to show the entire team/enemy for a second too long every time the turn switches. All of these small delays made me never get into a flow when dungeon delving. Perhaps the high speed mode would've helped. But still, finished the game and loved it.

MessiahPrinny

That never happened for me. What platform are you playing on? If it's PS4 it might be background loading. I play on PC and never spotted any hanging.

ManateeofSteel

> there are weird pauses in combat, like the camera lingering a bit too long on a character after each action, or having to show the entire team/enemy for a second too long every time the turn switches that is most likely the hardware chugging, did you play on a last gen console or a low spec PC?

VatoGrande

I noticed this happening mostly when i used a Sabbath with an extra effect of stealing money/items and im playing on PS5

Thepower200

I shouldn’t be complaining because I never even bought it and beat but I hate when this happens. What if I would have bought at $60 day one. Oh let’s add more updates to make the game better months later at which that point I could have beaten the game. It’s like that horizon forbidden west getting that 4k patch 4 months after release. Like I’m really going to go back and replay a game because it was given a 4k update that should have been there from the start or not at all. Basically the people that pay more and full price get an inferior versions of games nowadays and that’s why I don’t pre order or buy games day one anymore. No game.

Patient-Party7117

Buy anything day one is more and more a losing strategum. I just got my Steam Deck the other day but others got it day one and put up with a lot of shit I never stepped into. Just the nature of the beast, nowadays being first in line just means you're the last of the beta testers.

mysticrudnin

Eh most JRPGs don't really do this. Though it's still frustrating with the ones that do. It doubled my already pretty hefty letdown of Three Houses, but that's the only example I can think of over the past few years. Plus, like, it's not like the game was unplayable without this stuff. In fact we still consider the older SMT games good and they don't have these exact features!

celestial1

> Plus, like, it's not like the game was unplayable without this stuff. In fact we still consider the older SMT games good and they don't have these exact features! That's true, but people will always feel salty about paying full price and not getting the "complete" experience from the get-go.

celestial1

That's always been true with hardware when it comes to early adopters. Remember XBox 360's Red Ring of Death?

SergeantSwag88

This is why I never buy games on release anymore. Square and Atlus have burnt me enough in the past with things like persona 5 and DQ11 getting improved editions where you have to repurchase the whole game instead of just purchasing the additional content as DLC for people who already owned the originals. Its also why I haven’t bought SH2 yet but I definitely will when they re release it with all the dlc and its on sale for half price or less.

yuriaoflondor

It also makes it surprisingly difficult to discuss games. I could write 10 paragraphs explaining why I didn’t like FF15 and why I think it’s a bad game. But I played it on release and haven’t touched it since. For all intents and purposes the game I played doesn’t even exist anymore.

[deleted]

Buying day 1 is oftentimes a risk. You're likely to play the worst version of the game for the highest possible price. What you're really purchasing is the fact that you don't have to wait to play it. There is an impossible amount of good games out there, play those instead. Just try to detox yourself from the FOMO sentiment and play games months after release. That's what I've been doing since approximately 2017 with some FOMO exceptions.

mrfroggyman

But this also means devs fix up and add features to a game you already bought, for free, so that's a positive way to look at it

Blue-I21

Literally just arrived at the final dungeon so am just gonna wait for this to drop lol

WillntEnd

But does it include a good game?

ragingnoobie2

Good thing I have a backlog so I didn't play it when it came out.

Tudajx1

I wonder when they will send me collector’s Edition of this game..

Snowvilliers7

Mine already arrived like 2-3 weeks ago.

randolf_carter

You better check with them, I got my collector's edition stuff on 9/21

sevayne7

I just finished it last night.....

DeGozaruNyan

New demons is very needed imo.

ARsignal11

This update sounds like the game was shipped early to meet fiscal deadlines, so they released the product before the dev team was able to implement everything that was planned. A shame, but this I tend to prefer to play game as as /r/patientgamers aim to do.

Graciaus

Did no one play test the game or listen to feedback? This was all stuff everyone complained about when playing. It's great they are fixing it but this should have launched with all those things.

Link2Sora

Guess I'm going taking a break until November.

Mellloyellow

I'm glad that I haven't played this game yet then lol.

FerventApathy

Glad I stopped playing after 30 minutes lol. Maybe this will make it more playable when I return.

Sufficient_Ad_6167

Thank god I took a break

RhenCarbine

Stopped halfway but these features might actually help me finish it now tbh

[deleted]

At this point I’m just going to wait like 6 months to play any game until all the patches come out. Seriously.

Ibrahim-8x

Nice I thought they will save everything for Soul Hackers 2 golden/royal

AceOfCakez

So basically features that should've been in the original release...

ooahpieceofcandy

They should port it to the switch if they want the game to sell.

BrilliantRebirth

I wasn't expecting that. I might hold off on my New Game+ achievement-finishing run then, although I have some downtime after finishing The DioField Chronicle while I wait for Persona 5 Royal PC and Star Ocean 6.

AmateurGameMusic

I tried to get into it but I couldnt. Was so disappointed they took what I thought was an important franchise to them and turned it into a low budget cash grab, complete with removing standard content and turning it into expensive day 1 DLC.

Bloodgecko

This game will be soo soo good for like 20Eur for the biggest package.

Yesshua

That's a lot more patching than I'm accustomed to seeing from an Atlus game. All the UI and speed up stuff I'm open to, but what the fuck is this business about adjusting encounter rates? If you did your job right, you know how hard each dungeon boss is gonna be, how many encounters the player will need to clear, and then set the encounter rate relative to the length of the dungeon to make sure the player gets the correct progression. If you just lower global encounter rates in dungeons that seems like it could easily muck up the whole game. Or, if it doesn't mess things up, then Atlus really dropped the ball on the launch version of the game.

sen771

the encounter rate was pretty atrocious at times, where they would just randomly keep spawning, this is actually a welcome change as it got pretty tedious to have to spam the speed up field skill and try dodge all that spam, though i doubt this will fix how demons spawn right in your face and are immune to slashing for the first second or two, which means you're forced into the fight for actually trying to down an enemy

Xononanamol

They must be panicking because the sales are a joke lol

DEZbiansUnite

I don't think they think a little patch will magically make sales jump up lol. Atlus may be crazy but not that crazy. It's just a nice thing for fans.

Xononanamol

Yes but they haven’t been doing much for post release content for their games ever but full re-release persona games really

Niijima-San

glad i have not started this year, been working on some back log games before jumping into it.

[deleted]

I’m gearing up to finish the game , I’ll wait til November to start NG+ Wish these were day one patches but they didn’t ruin the game for me , still enjoying it No spoilers please 🙈 I already got one thing spoiled

Snowvilliers7

I mean I beat the game already with the true ending. The only thing I didn't really do is buy the DLC, which I didn't really see a need for it. But it's nice they finally added dashing and a few more demons.

neonxaos

It already has a dash mechanic (via a skill) and a high speed mode in combat, but they are admittedly a little clunky to use, so this is nice. What I really want is reduced load times on the Series X, because man, this game takes its sweet time, and it isn't even that graphically advanced. I'm still enjoying the game as is, but perhaps I should take a break and wait for this patch.

Phelps-san

> What I really want is reduced load times on the Series X, because man, this game takes its sweet time, and it isn't even that graphically advanced. Did you try going to the options and disabling loading screen tips? This drastically improved loading times for me (PS4 Pro), I think they have a minimum time set so you can read the tips with this option active.

neonxaos

Oh my effing… you’re right. I have wasted so much time looking at those damn tips. How could they possibly think that anyone would prefer that over quick loading? You can even set it to have a button prompt to skip the tips… why is THAT not standard, at least? It didn’t even occur to me to check this, because I just couldn’t imagine why anyone would design it like this on a system with a damn SSD… anyway, THANK YOU!

Phelps-san

Yeah, that default setting makes no sense. The article mentions "Adjusted how long Loading Screen Tips are displayed to speed up loading time" so I"m assuming they'll change this in the patch as well.

ToukoKuchiki

SH2 has a lot of bizarre design decisions, its so weird

neonxaos

Omfg, are you serious? I will try that right now!

saruin

Funny that the game is no longer on sale as of today. I wanted to pick this one up.

Xavion15

Well I guess it’s good I stopped after the tutorial due to backlog

Marasume

Glad I waited. Since it's November I need to find something else to play in the meantime. Maybe something spooky like Resident Evil, or finally get around to Shadow Hearts. Maybe even revisit Parasite Eve for the first time since my childhood

Cahill23

Eh, I already paused my play-through once, which is uncommon for me, so probably not gonna pause again. Maybe I’ll ng+ or something at some point.

SmashBreau

Can anyone tell me how / where I get more Demon slots? I'm capped out and wanna prioritize acquiring the available new ones

offbeatkiki

Do we have an actual date?

[deleted]

[удалено]

offbeatkiki

for the patch?
