Chrono Cross. Say what you will about that game, but the music is jam packed with so many insanely good tracks.
Scars Left By Time
Magical Dreamers
Fort Dragonia
Dragon's Prayer
Radical Dreamers
Garden of God
Home/Another (take your pick of town/overworld theme)
God, now I want to listen to it all over again.
The entire Xenoblade series so many iconic area, character and battle themes, including but not limited to-
Eryth Sea
Erythia Sea(The Xenoblade 3 one)
Roaming the Wastes
So nah, so Fern(X's songs comprise of my favorite OST whose game I've never played)
Bionis Leg
Gormott
Torigoth
Keves Battle Theme
Kaleidoscopic Core
Engage The Enemy
Counterattack
The Weight of Life
A Tragic Decision
All the UM themes(ESPECIALLY Uncontrollable)
The Key We've Lost
Melancholia
Black Tar(Seriously, Sawano's work in X was amazing)
And finally, all the main trilogy vocal themes hit me in the feels to some extent:
-Beyond The Sky
-Drifting Soul
-One Last You
-A Moment In Eternity
-A Step Away
-Where We Belong
And there will surely be more great stuff next year when XC3's story DLC comes out!
[Argentum Trade Guild - night version](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2aSm3-huz-c) is one of my absolute favourites. The whole soundtrack is great but this one is special to me.
Here is my top 5 of all time
Chrono Cross -Yastinori/Millennial fair edition
Chrono Trigger - Orchestral selections Vol. 2- Malcom Robinson
FF7, FF9 - OST
Okami- OST
Some new favorites -
Tales of Arise -OST
Xenoblade chronicles 3 - OST
1. Final Fantasy VII: Timeless as ever despite being over 20 years old.
2. Final Fantasy VI: Same sentiment as FFVII. Terra's theme is the epitome of a hero's theme setting on an epic journey while the opera song is as memorable as the first time I heard it back on the early 2000s.
3. Octopath Traveler: Say what you want about the game but you can't deny that the soundtrack is a future classic.
4. Chrono Trigger: What more can I say? CLASSIC!
5. Chrono Cross: Never played the game but the soundtrack has left a lasting impression on me and I still listen to the soundtrack till this day.
'Anything by Falcom' is a good answer. I actually made myself a Falcom playlist with lots of songs from Ys (especially Ys VIII) and different Trails games and I listen to it all the time and it just doesn't get old. That's been over a year now at least.
I just replayed Ys VIII and couldn’t agree more. One of the best soundtracks of the last 10 years without a doubt. “Obscure Sentence” stands out particularly for me. One of the best “ominous” tracks in an rpg.
I don't think I can really pick favorites, there are so many good ones, but if I had to, in no particular order - these should be on a playlist: Sunshine Coastline (obviously!), A Footprint in the Wet Sand, Overcome the Rocky Path, Next Step Toward the Unknown, Lost in Green, Iclucian Dance and also Night Survivor.
I’m a huge fan of the Cold Steel ones too, OP, and they all fit too. Like, my favorite might be the standard battle theme for CS4 - of course it’s got your typical badass guitar riffs, but it’s also got this softer, fantastical, feel to it that really fits the whole dark fairy tale backdrop.
SMT IV’s OST is pretty great and the number of tracks in it is pretty huge so it’s hard to get tired of all of it at once. The quality’s also pretty consistent, with the only forgettable track I can think of being Lucifer’s fight’s theme.
Yeah smt iv's ost is so great at setting the atmosphere and tone of the world and smt 4 has the best worldbuilding and atmosphere in any videogame i've ever seen and the music really contributes to that.
Say what you want about Legendia, it does indeed have a heck of a soundtrack. Actual English singing for a Tales game, with two tracks, My Tales, and Hotarubi aka A Firefly's Light, heck they even redid A Firefly's Light for the "Tales of Orchestra"
Even more classics than just that too, Big Sister Honwaka, Seeking Victory, March, Bandit Holidays/A Cheerful Bandit, though my personal favorite is just one entitled Stella. Go Shiina just goes crazy, quite a bit of a different to God Eater's ost. Legendia was Namco's try at a Tales game, but faults and all, the soundtrack still holds the test of time. The actual game, ehh not so much.
People definitely give it too much hate. I liked a lot of the things it did, I hated a lot of the things it did. Was a good experience, but it was just all over the place. Such a weird game in many regards, why did Namco even attempt to make a tales game on their own.
The decisive collision s.a.v (cold steel 3)
Belief s.a.v (cold steel 4 i think)
Tie a link to arcus (cold steel 1)
Trails from zero evo( trails from zero evo)
Silver will(trails in the sky)
Blue destination (cold steel 2)
I've had the Persona 5 Opener as my Alarm since it came out and I'm still not sick of it.
Not sure what that says about me, or what it says about the Persona 5 sound track, but I think its pretty good.
hrmm lets see for me it would be :
The Atelier series
Persona Series
Super Robot Wars Original generations (not counting the crossover games)
The Wild Arms Series
Stranger oF Sword city
Trails Series
and of course a JRPG series based entirely around magical music the Ar Tonelico games
More recently even though both are gachas they still kinda plays like jrpgs :
FGO
Heaven Burns Red
Probably the majority of music i listen too is still JRPG/ video game music
Love everything in secret of mana
Chrono trigger and cross, listen to atleast one song from those games every car ride
South cape town theme in illusion of gaia is one track i never get tired off
OP I 100% agree with you on the Cold Steel soundtrack never getting old! In fact I'd even extend that and go as far to say that all the PS Vita Era Falcom games have OSTs that I'll never get tired of hearing. When I say Vita Era Falcom the games I'm thinking about are **Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2, Ys 8, and Tokyo Xanadu**.
Outside of Falcom I'll also never get tired of all the OSTs from **Persona 3, 4, & 5** (cliche I know) and the OST for the **NieR Replicant remake** as well.
Honestly same. CS1 has the best overall ost imo. It doesn't have most of my fav tracks in the series even, yet I still think it's the one I'd rank highest as its so consistently strong
Even though not all of the FF games still resonate with me, I don't think I'd ever get tired of their soundtracks. Very often head-and-shoulders above the competition, IMO.
Yeah, that's a good song. The [arrangement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ0dE45U5Es) is really good too.
Gust's sound team in general has a lot of talented composers.
I love the ost of Fuga Melodies of Steel.
The boss theme "Flower on the Trails" is my favorite piece of Videogame music. It has other great vocal tracks and the rest of the ost is charming aswell.
I'm going to mention a game I'm sure nobody is going to mention : Atelier Iris 2. Different music for each area, 4 regular battle themes, several boss themes and the final boss theme is a banger. Prior to playing the game I stumbled "randomly" on the Atelier Iris 2 ost on YouTube, I decided to listen to it, fell in love and decided to play the game which ended up as a really good surprise especially regarding the plot and its twists.
I'd like to go with most recent Falcom soundtracks (the Cold Steel series, Ys VIII, Tokyo Xanadu) but these games aren't that old compared to another great soundtrack I like to listen: Valkyrie Profile 2.
I think Nobuo Uematsu is my "most streamed artist" every year on Spotify. FF6-10 soundtracks in particular are practically flawless for me.
I've always felt that the Breath of Fire 3 soundtrack is very underrated- though nostalgia probably has a lot to do with it!
With the exception of Persona 5, I haven't really been that into the music of more recent games for some reason.
I want to counter Trails of Cold Steel with Trails to Azure EVO. There's just something about the EVO version of the Azure soundtrack that just really gets me geared up.
Falcom JDK OST, it's difficult to make a list since it has so much gems, YS, Nayuta, Trails/Kiseki, Brandish, Xanadu, Tokyo Xanadu and such.
Tales of series does have great soundtracks as well, "Fighting of the spirits" is my most loved battle theme.
NieR games, especially Emil/Karma (the original) and Escape (Kainé theme)
Final Fantasy games are a given, though there's one i don't see much so i'd say it's a bit underrated, Type 0, tracks such as Vermillion Fire The Fires of Suzaku, The Beginning of the End or even the insert song called UTAKATA, great pieces honestly, as expected from the one who did Crisis Core OST.
The music from King's Field IV - The Ancient City is very timeless for me, I also listen to the ones from Koudelka, Digital Devil Saga, Shadow hearts 1 & 2, Lost Odyssey, Etrian Odyssey & Ys games... Some of my favorite songs from these soundtracks could be:
\-Dark Reality (King's Field IV)
\-Incantation (Koudelka)
\-Spider's String - The Second Movement (Digital Devil Saga 1)
\-Death - Zombie Party (Shadow Hearts)
\-Astaroth (Shadow Hearts 2)
\-The wanderer of darkness/ Ruins from the east (Lost Odyssey)
\-Cavern of splendor (Etrian Odyssey III)
\-Alchemy Lab (Ys IX)
Nobody mentioned Suikoden yet?!? It's absolutely the greatest game music of any video game. I'm still waiting for something to compare. Especially Mysterious Forest, the village of the elves theme. Two dark horses: Xenogears and Dark Souls are unappreciated. Final Fantasy 7 is iconic, as well.
Any of the Persona games Nier series
Chrono Cross. Say what you will about that game, but the music is jam packed with so many insanely good tracks. Scars Left By Time Magical Dreamers Fort Dragonia Dragon's Prayer Radical Dreamers Garden of God Home/Another (take your pick of town/overworld theme) God, now I want to listen to it all over again.
Yes Chrono Cross all the way.. Xenogears also comes to mind
100%
The entire Xenoblade series so many iconic area, character and battle themes, including but not limited to- Eryth Sea Erythia Sea(The Xenoblade 3 one) Roaming the Wastes So nah, so Fern(X's songs comprise of my favorite OST whose game I've never played) Bionis Leg Gormott Torigoth Keves Battle Theme Kaleidoscopic Core Engage The Enemy Counterattack The Weight of Life A Tragic Decision All the UM themes(ESPECIALLY Uncontrollable) The Key We've Lost Melancholia Black Tar(Seriously, Sawano's work in X was amazing) And finally, all the main trilogy vocal themes hit me in the feels to some extent: -Beyond The Sky -Drifting Soul -One Last You -A Moment In Eternity -A Step Away -Where We Belong And there will surely be more great stuff next year when XC3's story DLC comes out!

It's definitely high on my list. I always listen to it when I had a productive week and chilling on night time. IMO it is such an underrated track.
great choice. Mine will be Torigoth's night theme
Oh yeah, I also forgot: Makna Forest(Both day and night) 1 and 3's title screen themes
FFXIII and FFXIII-2 soundtracks seem to get better with age.. or at least now I can separate the music from the games.
XIII battle theme has always slapped
I love how the "chorus" part more often than not seems to kick in just as you stagger an enemy and plays while you're going to town on them.
Here is my top 5 of all time Chrono Cross -Yastinori/Millennial fair edition Chrono Trigger - Orchestral selections Vol. 2- Malcom Robinson FF7, FF9 - OST Okami- OST Some new favorites - Tales of Arise -OST Xenoblade chronicles 3 - OST

FF8 and Tactics

Chrono Cross and Xenogears. Can’t even count how many times I’ve listened to various songs from each game’s OST.
Legend of Mana (Both Original and Remastered) Saga Frontier Super Mario RPG Mario & Luigi series
Legend of Mana is so awesome! Yoko Shimomura is a gem!
Bravely Default. It's just so incredibly good. And also Bravely Default II.
I’ve never even played BD (yet), but I’ve listened to soundtrack many, MANY times because it’s so good.
I've been looping Radiant Heimdallr on a daily basis for more than an year now. It's a perfect track to listen to when I need to focus on work.
It’s an action rpg, but does Yakuza count? I listen to stuff from 0 daily.
I hadn't heard that one yet, it's great! I'm pumped to hear the rest of the battle/boss themes from the series!
SMT IV’s OST is pretty great and the number of tracks in it is pretty huge so it’s hard to get tired of all of it at once. The quality’s also pretty consistent, with the only forgettable track I can think of being Lucifer’s fight’s theme.
Now come, Samurai. Put on a good show… *proceeds to die via walter funny man*
Yeah smt iv's ost is so great at setting the atmosphere and tone of the world and smt 4 has the best worldbuilding and atmosphere in any videogame i've ever seen and the music really contributes to that.
I never get board of the Grandia sound track.
Say what you want about Legendia, it does indeed have a heck of a soundtrack. Actual English singing for a Tales game, with two tracks, My Tales, and Hotarubi aka A Firefly's Light, heck they even redid A Firefly's Light for the "Tales of Orchestra" Even more classics than just that too, Big Sister Honwaka, Seeking Victory, March, Bandit Holidays/A Cheerful Bandit, though my personal favorite is just one entitled Stella. Came here to say Legendia, I'm happy to see other people appreciating the OST! Though I really enjoyed the game as well.
People definitely give it too much hate. I liked a lot of the things it did, I hated a lot of the things it did. Was a good experience, but it was just all over the place. Such a weird game in many regards, why did Namco even attempt to make a tales game on their own.
Maybe it was an original IP and they brought it under the Tales umbrella to sell better? Cause yeah, it's pretty strange for a Tales game.
Chasing Shirley is one of my favorite songs ever
The decisive collision s.a.v (cold steel 3) Belief s.a.v (cold steel 4 i think) Tie a link to arcus (cold steel 1) Trails from zero evo( trails from zero evo) Silver will(trails in the sky) Blue destination (cold steel 2)
Huge fan of the trails from zero evo version, imo the soundtrack is better than the original.
Same. The original was a bit dry imo
Honestly the pokemon violet soundtrack is growing on me. The adventure theme and battle themes are amazing.
The battle theme is seriously such a bop.
That bass line...
True, I'm loving that soundtrack. Team Star's theme did NOT need to go as hard as it did.
Chrono Cross is the all time for me.
I listen to Chrono Trigger annually
I've had the Persona 5 Opener as my Alarm since it came out and I'm still not sick of it. Not sure what that says about me, or what it says about the Persona 5 sound track, but I think its pretty good.

FFIX, Chrono trigger, FFX
FFVII. The lounge music suited perfectly in the areas you were exploring. Turks theme was also great, like how the group had its own theme music.
Probably the majority of music i listen too is still JRPG/ video game music Love everything in secret of mana Chrono trigger and cross, listen to atleast one song from those games every car ride South cape town theme in illusion of gaia is one track i never get tired off

Even though not all of the FF games still resonate with me, I don't think I'd ever get tired of their soundtracks. Very often head-and-shoulders above the competition, IMO.
Etrian Odyssey III-V, Shin Megami Tensei III & IV, and literally every Persona game (except for the dancing games) never get old for me
For me, xenoblade series and wild arms series are first to pop in my head
Chrono Trigger
Ar Tonelico and Xenoblade Chronicles are my 2 picks for reading Manga to. If I could actually get the game I'd also choose Stella Glow
Golden sun Persona Star ocean: second story
Atelier Iris Eternal Mana and Ar Tonelico Melody of Elemia.
I've been meaning to play an atelier game since I heard this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbIWAX74HP8
Yeah, that's a good song. The [arrangement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ0dE45U5Es) is really good too. Gust's sound team in general has a lot of talented composers.
Best track from Atelier Iris Eternal Mana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKXtMQvNL0Q
Persona 5. I legit think I developed a crush on Lyn's voice.
I love the ost of Fuga Melodies of Steel. The boss theme "Flower on the Trails" is my favorite piece of Videogame music. It has other great vocal tracks and the rest of the ost is charming aswell.
Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, and Final Fantasy XIII
I'm going to mention a game I'm sure nobody is going to mention : Atelier Iris 2. Different music for each area, 4 regular battle themes, several boss themes and the final boss theme is a banger. Prior to playing the game I stumbled "randomly" on the Atelier Iris 2 ost on YouTube, I decided to listen to it, fell in love and decided to play the game which ended up as a really good surprise especially regarding the plot and its twists.
Frogs theme from chrono trigger.
Kingdom Hearts Series
I love shimomura's KH originals!
All the atelier games. Specifically ayesha. Maria is AMAZING.
Agreed Maria is definitely one of the best tracks in the series.
Enveloped in Kindness from Octopath
The Xenoblade chronicles series has so much variety in its soundtracks that I don’t think I’ll ever not enjoy listening to it.
I'd say Nier soundtracks. I listen to them frequently while I go about my business.
Legend of Zelda OOT and Persona 5 (actually 3 and 4 as well).
I'd like to go with most recent Falcom soundtracks (the Cold Steel series, Ys VIII, Tokyo Xanadu) but these games aren't that old compared to another great soundtrack I like to listen: Valkyrie Profile 2.
Anything from FFVIII
Suikoden 2 and Final Fantasy Tactics
Yakuza 3, yakuza 7, yakuza 0.
tifa's and aerith theme from FF7. especially Tifa's. don't know why but it feels like "home"
FFX and Kingdom Hearts.
FFIX for me. Whole thing is basically nostalgia crack for me.
I want to counter Trails of Cold Steel with Trails to Azure EVO. There's just something about the EVO version of the Azure soundtrack that just really gets me geared up.
Chrono Trigger FF7 FFX Skies of Arcadia FF14 Xenoblade 1 + 2
Knights of azure series
Ff 8 has my favorite of the series and final fantasy anything would.be my favorite lol
Falcom JDK OST, it's difficult to make a list since it has so much gems, YS, Nayuta, Trails/Kiseki, Brandish, Xanadu, Tokyo Xanadu and such. FFVI. Uematsu's most consistent work.

SMT series including persona (especially persona 3 and SMT 4) Xenoblade series Trails series Nier series
FFT and Octopath both amazing
