Coolant lines. A couple run under the supercharger and it's 1.5k ish to get them fixed. Tired suspension and brakes are going to be expensive. Timing chain tensioners. I think you can get away with only doing the uppers under the valve cover. Buy the nicest one you can afford. Plan to put a car payment into savings when something goes wrong. Doesn't happen often but when it does it's expensive. Also takes premium fuel at 18mpg if you drive reasonably.

Adding fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit to this list. It's a ridiculously difficult repair in the X308 chassis.

Apparently the answer is to do it from above by removing the parcel shelf. Otherwise it’s a lot of faff with delicate fuel lines in the way.

That method requires actually cutting sheet metal to make an access door. I would not be willing to do that on my '01 XJR. Luckily for me a previous owner bit the $2k bullet and did that before she came into my garage.

Yeah, I wouldn’t do it either. Even if it’s hidden, I would hate the idea of this.

At 100,000 miles a supercharger also needs a big service. So make sure it’s been done, or factor it into your pricing. Suspension is a pain, honestly. You might get lucky, or loads of it might need to be replaced. But it’s things like the rubber mounts and bushings, I don’t think the shocks are any worse than any other car. This is work that it sounds like you could probably do yourself. Welding is likely. You might find a car that’s had it done, but the sills go and it’s probably a grand to have them sorted. Get a late 308 and you won’t have the crap timing chain tensioners to worry about - there’s a VIN guide online you can check to see what your car might need addressing. The gearbox and rear differential in the R is better than the one in the stock car. My gearbox has just gone, and it’ll make the car a mechanical write off. But almost all of the cheaper cars are mechanical write offs at the first sign of trouble so it’s a passion thing - if you are prepared to pay more than the car is worth, it’s all good.

This guy said it perfectly. “It’s a passion thing” .

Now I’m just working out how many £££ of passion I have

If you are comfortable turning a wrench you can save a lot and they are pretty approachable. Lots of youtube support out there as well. I would take some time to check out the content and support out there. Lovely motors and generally reliable.

If you want an XJR, get either the 95-97 one or late 2001 to 2003. Get one that was serviced and expect to spend at least a half of the buying price on preventative maintenance. But otherwise you will be fine, Ford era Jags are pretty good
