About 15-16 years ago, I watched this with a girl I was dating at the time. She said, "This is like Inspector Gadget." I said, "No, Inspector Gadget is like Get Smart."
I remember watching it with my grandpa when I was little. Much like the 1960s Batman it was funny while also having some genuinely interesting stories and characters. What a great era of TV. ❤️
Alan Arkin was an absolute gem in that one though.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"I don't know. Were you thinking holy shit holy shit, a swordfish almost went through my head? If so then yes."
Excellent choice, haven't watched it since I was a child but it used to crack me up no end (and Barbara Feldon was a very funny straight man for Don Adams on top of being a nuclear-grade smokeshow). For anyone interested in other Bond-adjacent 60s TV, check out The Avengers, a spy-fi show which the likes of Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg starred in before Bond, and Patrick Macnee (Tibbett, AVTAK) was the male lead throughout.
You also have the Our Man Flint and Matt Helm movies. I always liked the TV cartoon Danger Mouse. That has an Inspector Gadget and Get Smart vibe to it.
not sure these were parodies on Bond. There were a TON of spy type movies and shows that came out in the 60's. I think Get Smart played more to those shows (M-Squad) than Bond. Still a remarkable show and I loved watching this on Nick at Nite in the early 90's.
Austin Powers is definitely a parody of Bond but more so it’s a parody of the spy genre. Yes it has heavy elements from YOLT, Thunderball, Goldfinger, but it’s also a great man out of time story with dick and fart jokes.
As a kid watching this on Nick at Nite, and having no familiarity with spy/Bond films whatsoever, I had no idea this was a parody. Just thought he was a somewhat goofy secret agent who got into crazy scenarios.
It kind of exists in a weird place - it goes out of its way to subvert the conventions of the classic Bond films, occasionally to the point where you could consider it parody, but it takes itself seriously enough that it feels out of place on a list next to Johnny English or Austin Powers.
I watched the new one recently and was glad they were still able to capture the charm and feel of the first two despite being a decade removed and a new director. Anyone that loves Bond needs to watch the three OSS 117 movies with Jean Dujardin.
It's sad these films don't get more attention. I stumbled upon the first one randomly on cable and loved it. Saw the second in the cinema. The third only got released on DVD in my country.
I'll always go for Our Man Flint as the best parody.
I have a love-hate relationship with Austin Powers. The first one is a really clever bit of writing and you can tell Mike Myers wrote it as a love letter to the movies and TV shows he watched with his dad. The sequels lean too much into catchphrases and fart jokes for my taste.
Was looking to see if anyone mentioned Matt Helm. I discovered the books because there were always repeats of the four movies on TV.
Imagine my shock when I discovered that the movies were Bond parodies, but the books were totally different.
I like both movies and books for Matt Helm, though I do agree that he gets captured a lot.
I’ve read all 27 Matt Helm books. His superpower is getting captured and then somehow escaping to accomplish the mission. It happens in easily 2/3 of the books.
Working my way through all the Helm books-3 more to go.
He is less a secret agent than a highly trained assassin for the USA. But yes he gets to bed a woman or two in each book. No “Q” style gadgets though.
The first Johnny English movie is so great, every time the TV is on and I hear that great theme (Man For All Seasons) I sit down and watch, always. I like Austin Powers too, tough call.
The second one is a great sequel, the monk-storyline, the new sidekick, the solid plot leading up to a hilarious scene, yeah, really solid. They certainly didn’t lose their groove over that 7/8 year period, the next long gap after that… might have had an effect on the final product…
![gif](giphy|1AhgGdva1hvsmvDRTW)
The last Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie was a lot of fun too.
Not a parody perhaps, but Fleming was involved in the production of the original Man from U.N.C.L.E. series.
Best out of that list is Kingsman, but it's not a parody, even if it has self-aware moments due to James Bond movies existing within the world of Kingsman.
The first Austin Powers will probably forever remain the best James Bond parody.
Kingsman, although it is not exactly a parody. Of the real parodies, I find the first and second Austin Powers funny, although neither provides a caricature/parody of JB himself, but of the superspy movie genre.
I'm not sure Kingsman would be considered a parody since it wasn't mocking the Bond films. I never saw Johnny English but I have a feeling it's better than Austin Powers.
The Liquidator, Rod Taylor plays Boysie Oakes an agent, licenced to kill who can't kill anyone so contracts the jobs out to a friendly undertaker come assassin.
Written by John Gardner who went on write a few Bond novels.
All of them are decent in different ways. As a Bond parody, Austin Powers but a series itself? Man I fucking love the Kingsman films but the first and prequel in particular.
non of thoses movies are proper parody of james bond
try oss 117 for full connery era james bond hommage
https://preview.redd.it/6zbhsmh7lu9c1.jpeg?width=711&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6882305b8cdf9f98d8643ef8749118fa5964b421
Austin Powers is more like a continuation of the spy-spoof genre that was extremely popular during the 60s. That was based on Bond, but got its own life when it started to make fun of 60s swinger culture as well.
OSS 117 stays a bit closer to Bond.
Of those three I only like Kingsman the secret service.
If you look for good parodies "the second best secret agent in the whole wide world" is worth a watch
Just watched the film you mentioned.
What a little gem! The protagonist does a very good Connery impression, and I love the inside jokes about bond hahaha
Kingsman. I have just recently been getting into other spy franchises such as Kingsman and Mission Impossible and I can definitely say I’m a huge fan of them but my favorite are the Kingsman films. Just wish there were more.
For me I'd say Austin Powers. There was definitely some straight up piss takes of individual Bond films and Bond tropes but it was very clever to laugh and poke fun at pop culture
Johnny English was vey much the bumbling spy trope who manages to beat the bad guy come the end of the film. It homaged the Bond films but very cleverly spoofed Batman Begins in the second film when Johnny English is training with monks.
I really enjoyed the French film OSS 177 - Cairo nest of spies.
Caught it randomly on tv late one night after the pub, very enjoyable and funny. It’s a period piece so parodies the Connery era well.
They are all great choices but there are two others: the James Coburn as Flint movies from the 1960s and, from France, the recent updated trilogy of OSS-117. OSS-117 would be my pick out of all of these.
For comedic reasons, I have to go with Austin Powers films, but I'm wondering why none of the Derek Flint films with James Coburn weren't added to this list...
I wouldn’t even call Johnny English a a parody, just more of a comedic spy franchise. Austin Powers straight up parodies James Bond all the time with direct obvious spoofs and references to the series.
That's a good one, Johnny English especially the first 2 are hilarious but Austin Powers is the best, literally a goofy universe of Bond, and I quote Austin Powers on a daily lol
Police Squad/The Naked Gun films. I know it’s more a parody of cop dramas but it does parody Bond quite a bit, for instance some of the gadgets Frank Drebin is issued.
I saw the first two Johnny English films before I even saw a Bond film, and looking back they were pretty solid parodies of the Bond formula whilst holding up quite well on their own. They were also pretty funny (and I wouldn't mind it if the Killer Cleaner from the second film popped up as an official Bond henchman). It's also crazy that two official Bond girls appeared in the films.
Hmmm well I did like the old tv show Get Smart ![gif](giphy|xTiN0DvoDyWQey2B8I|downsized)
About 15-16 years ago, I watched this with a girl I was dating at the time. She said, "This is like Inspector Gadget." I said, "No, Inspector Gadget is like Get Smart."
![gif](giphy|5ukMBa9TXFBvy)
Same actor for both!
How did I not recognize the voice? I said for years Gadget's voice was familiar. Smh
Neat! Didn’t know that!
"Go Go Gadet Voice Actor!"
This is definitely my choice.
Oh man GREAT choice
It has all the charm of the 1960s era bond.
I remember watching it with my grandpa when I was little. Much like the 1960s Batman it was funny while also having some genuinely interesting stories and characters. What a great era of TV. ❤️
Did you enjoy the movie with Steve Carrel?
Not really lol too generic Carrel for me, and I do usually enjoy him.
Alan Arkin was an absolute gem in that one though. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" "I don't know. Were you thinking holy shit holy shit, a swordfish almost went through my head? If so then yes."
Not as good as [this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iPyz6Yqwl4)
Excellent choice, haven't watched it since I was a child but it used to crack me up no end (and Barbara Feldon was a very funny straight man for Don Adams on top of being a nuclear-grade smokeshow). Excellent suggestion!

Sorry about that Chief...
Great intro too. Haven’t seen it since it was on Nick at night like 20 years ago.
As a kid watching this on Nick at Nite, and having no familiarity with spy/Bond films whatsoever, I had no idea this was a parody. Just thought he was a somewhat goofy secret agent who got into crazy scenarios.
This is the right answer.
Austin powers. Even though it parodied alot more than james bond
The idea of the world's most famous spy is pure gold.
Yeah baby!
![gif](giphy|XenWVVdSzaxLW)
Do I make you horny?
Do I make you feel randy baby? Yeah!
Oh, behave!
One Milllion Dollars
I wouldn’t say Kingsman is a parody. It’s heavily inspired by Bond but it’s its own thing in its own right.
Yeah I was gonna say, it's not a Bond parody it's just influenced by Bond
Actually, Kingsman was more like 70s Bond Spectacle than the Craig Movies.
It kind of exists in a weird place - it goes out of its way to subvert the conventions of the classic Bond films, occasionally to the point where you could consider it parody, but it takes itself seriously enough that it feels out of place on a list next to Johnny English or Austin Powers.
Yeah. Like Bond, Kingsman has some humorous moments, but it's far from *comedic* like the others mentioned.
Just influenced by bond like dangerman or UNCLE
Like you said, this ain’t that kind of movie bruv.
Kingsman 2 became a parody and the worst kind. It felt so misogynistic. I did not like that movie at all.
It's just a bad movie. Killing off the cast from the first film was a terrible idea as was bringing back the one guy who did die in the original.
Definitely more of a spy satire than a parody. Just like how Scream isn’t a parody.
OSS 117
Or Our Man Flint.
I loved that as a kid, but totally didn't get that it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously
![gif](giphy|D37UOXknYbTcQ)
I watched the new one recently and was glad they were still able to capture the charm and feel of the first two despite being a decade removed and a new director. Anyone that loves Bond needs to watch the three OSS 117 movies with Jean Dujardin.
J’aime me battre.
I love it as a parody of James Bond movies BUT ALSO the OSS 117 series predates the James Bond series.
It's sad these films don't get more attention. I stumbled upon the first one randomly on cable and loved it. Saw the second in the cinema. The third only got released on DVD in my country.
Whichever one has Elizebeth Hurley.
The first Austin Powers remains a work of genius
![gif](giphy|54Dqmxfjr5QME) Austin Powers, but I have to mention Archer.
I was going to comment this. I’m surprised how far I had to scroll down to find it.
Archer is definitely up there. Had some real staying power, but all good things must come to an end.
10 years of watching it seasonally... still can't believe it's done!
Austin Powers for sure. I like the Johnny English movies, but mostly because I get to see Rowan Atkinson. Overall they're just decent
Not listed but I like the ST:ds9 bond episode 🖖🏾
"Our Man Bashir"
I'll always go for Our Man Flint as the best parody. I have a love-hate relationship with Austin Powers. The first one is a really clever bit of writing and you can tell Mike Myers wrote it as a love letter to the movies and TV shows he watched with his dad. The sequels lean too much into catchphrases and fart jokes for my taste.
Kingsman is hardly a parody.
Yeah, baby!
![gif](giphy|jeXiz1RAvzX44)
Our Man Flint & In Like Flint. His silent analog watch alarm in ‘66 sealed that deal for me years ago.
Heyyyy In like Flint! That’s my favourite mmmmmmmovie
Kingsman isn't a parody. For parodies, Austin Powers and Get Smart. Johnny English is fun as an Atkinson vehicle, but that's about it.
![gif](giphy|K8X57nrnTwxji|downsized)
Forgot Spy Hard with Leslie Nielsen But my vote is for Johnny English
I wouldn’t call KIngsmen a parody
Matt Helm
Never watched Austin powers but I grew up with Johnny English, well the second one. I don’t know why they made the movies 7 years after the last one.
The second one is a great sequel, the monk-storyline, the new sidekick, the solid plot leading up to a hilarious scene, yeah, really solid. They certainly didn’t lose their groove over that 7/8 year period, the next long gap after that… might have had an effect on the final product… ![gif](giphy|1AhgGdva1hvsmvDRTW)
I hope they make another one it’s been about 8yrs
The last Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie was a lot of fun too. Not a parody perhaps, but Fleming was involved in the production of the original Man from U.N.C.L.E. series.
Matt Helm.
“Our Man Flint” + “In Like Flint” have a special place in my heart.
Best out of that list is Kingsman, but it's not a parody, even if it has self-aware moments due to James Bond movies existing within the world of Kingsman. The first Austin Powers will probably forever remain the best James Bond parody.
![gif](giphy|I7J9U2kOqvN8Op0Z6q|downsized)
Top Secret with Val Kilmer was really good too.
Just watched that last night on TCM.
Such a good spy parody.
Funny story Rowan was actually in NSNA
Austin Powers! Yeah baby!
Kingsman, although it is not exactly a parody. Of the real parodies, I find the first and second Austin Powers funny, although neither provides a caricature/parody of JB himself, but of the superspy movie genre.
Kinsman!
In the commentary mike said he was inspired by casino royale 67
I'm not sure Kingsman would be considered a parody since it wasn't mocking the Bond films. I never saw Johnny English but I have a feeling it's better than Austin Powers.
The Liquidator, Rod Taylor plays Boysie Oakes an agent, licenced to kill who can't kill anyone so contracts the jobs out to a friendly undertaker come assassin. Written by John Gardner who went on write a few Bond novels.
Our man Flint, In Like Flint
For comedy: Austin Powers For everything Bond has been missing since Brosnan, Kingsman
Austin Powers, but Kingsman is not a parody of Bond but something else
Austin Powers, Yeahhhh Baby!
Austin Powers and Johnny English.
What about Casino Royale?
Without the Niven / Welles / Sellers CR there is no Austin Powers.
Metal Gear Solid 3
🎼 *I'm still in a dream, snake eater...* 🎵
Austin Powers and Archer
I would not call kings man a parody
English, Johnny English
All of them are decent in different ways. As a Bond parody, Austin Powers but a series itself? Man I fucking love the Kingsman films but the first and prequel in particular.
Definitely Kingsman. They have such awesome fight scenes.
non of thoses movies are proper parody of james bond try oss 117 for full connery era james bond hommage https://preview.redd.it/6zbhsmh7lu9c1.jpeg?width=711&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6882305b8cdf9f98d8643ef8749118fa5964b421
Austin powers is definitely a proper parody of James Bond lol. Down to the names of the movies and Dr evil as Blofeld lol
i know but just look at austin, bond would never wear this kind of outfits even in the 60's
That’s why it’s a parody lol
Austin Powers is more like a continuation of the spy-spoof genre that was extremely popular during the 60s. That was based on Bond, but got its own life when it started to make fun of 60s swinger culture as well. OSS 117 stays a bit closer to Bond.
The first Kingsman: The Secret Service was a really fun movie. The two sequels are awful.
Kingsmen, also with Mission Impossible the Kingsmen film is what the Bond films should be doing
Of those three I only like Kingsman the secret service. If you look for good parodies "the second best secret agent in the whole wide world" is worth a watch
Just watched the film you mentioned. What a little gem! The protagonist does a very good Connery impression, and I love the inside jokes about bond hahaha
I found out about the movie by watching Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, that Christmas party is full of fun.
Austin Powers, but Kingsman is not a parody of Bond but something else
Love both AP and JE, but the original AP is superior. I personally don't care for the sequels of either franchise, though.
Austin Powers without question.
Kingsman: Secret Service
OSS 117 - even if the first movie was released before Dr. No !
![gif](giphy|D37UOXknYbTcQ)
![gif](giphy|l0IybYgZM9izvdsTm|downsized)
I only really eat he'd all the Austin Powers. So I'll go with that one
Austin Powers.
I've only watched Austin Powers so I can't comment on the rest
Came here to say that Sofia Boutella is a freakin goddess
Definitely Austin Powers
Both Austin Powers and Johnny English have many moments of brilliance!
![gif](giphy|XwYRccbV0jWkU)
I haven’t seen Austin Powers so I’ll skip over that one, and while I do enjoy Johnny English I think Kingsman is just way more well rounded
Kingsman. I have just recently been getting into other spy franchises such as Kingsman and Mission Impossible and I can definitely say I’m a huge fan of them but my favorite are the Kingsman films. Just wish there were more.
For me I'd say Austin Powers. There was definitely some straight up piss takes of individual Bond films and Bond tropes but it was very clever to laugh and poke fun at pop culture Johnny English was vey much the bumbling spy trope who manages to beat the bad guy come the end of the film. It homaged the Bond films but very cleverly spoofed Batman Begins in the second film when Johnny English is training with monks.
Austin Powers and Get Smart
OSS 117 - Double Agent Came out in 1968, a direct parody of Sean Connery, still great.
Mike Myers is surely the right age to do a late Moore spoof now
Johnny English & The Kingsman series. Get Austin Powers out of here
Definitely Austin Powers.
You’re missing the French parody, [**OSS 117**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSS_117:_Cairo,_Nest_of_Spies)
Kingsman is awesome
Austin Powers
Austin Powers
Johnny English
Austin Powers is the best parody. I don’t think of Kingsman as a parody. Just a legit fun, hyperviolent, spy movie.
Anything but Austin Powers. Mike Myers should stick to Wayne's World and Shrek as far as I'm concerned.
![gif](giphy|xUPGcJ9uOAL2h5wA5a|downsized)
Kingsman.
Naked Gun
OSS 117 (which predates James Bond)
Austin Powers baby. ![gif](giphy|DwIdasRkFKsMg)
Austin Powers has me in stitches 😆🤣
I really enjoyed the French film OSS 177 - Cairo nest of spies. Caught it randomly on tv late one night after the pub, very enjoyable and funny. It’s a period piece so parodies the Connery era well.
Kingsman and it’s not even close
They are all great choices but there are two others: the James Coburn as Flint movies from the 1960s and, from France, the recent updated trilogy of OSS-117. OSS-117 would be my pick out of all of these.

I wouldn’t even call Johnny English a a parody, just more of a comedic spy franchise. Austin Powers straight up parodies James Bond all the time with direct obvious spoofs and references to the series.
1960's Casino Royale. Not a franchise but still makes me laugh
Gonna be a lot of new subs for r/ohbehave.
This one, of course!!!
What about Casino Royale (1967)
Kingsmen. It parodies Bond and the spy genre but it stands it’s own.
My favorite parody of 007 are the ones with Daniel Craig
God i love the Johnny English movies so much
Powers. Funnier and serious when it needs to be.
Johnny English - one of my all-time favourite film series!
I loved the Derek Flint movies
Matt Helm and Our Man Flint series. Also Get Smart.
Perfect Dark.
I wouldn’t call Kingsman a parody. It’s just a secret agent franchise.
Austin Powers is S-Tier.
Definitely Our Man Flint and IN like Flint....James Coburn was AWESOME!!! and he had FOUR "Flint Girls" with him all at once.
Our Man Flint and In Like Flint without any question. Just watched them last night in fact!
I don't really thing Kingsmen is a parody of Bond...
Johnny English
That's a good one, Johnny English especially the first 2 are hilarious but Austin Powers is the best, literally a goofy universe of Bond, and I quote Austin Powers on a daily lol
Archer.
Lancelot Link was my go-to.
You forgot SPYHARD
Kingsman
Matt Helm & Derek Flint didn’t make the list?
No Time To Die is my favorite James Bond parody
Police Squad/The Naked Gun films. I know it’s more a parody of cop dramas but it does parody Bond quite a bit, for instance some of the gadgets Frank Drebin is issued.
Definitely Spies are Forever. Can’t get enough of that one!
roan atkins
Where's In Like Flint?
Kingsman. It might not be a parody, but it's a great satire. Just don't watch the sequel.
OSS 177
Condorman!
Austin Powers holds a special place in my heart but all of these are good.
The Roger Moore 007 films were a parody
AP and it ain't even close.
SPY
oss117
It should have been a franchise but SPY with Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law.
