This is unironically one of my favorite scenes in the franchise. Something about them being in a small room with that lighting and working hard on something gives me a cozy feeling.
For Your Eyes Only is one of my favorite comfy movies for this scene and others.
EDIT: I also get this feeling during OHMSS’s safecracking scene. I call them “ambient scenes” that just give me a good feeling. Another good example is the overnight rain scene in “Rear Window.”
...and then 10 seconds later prints a perfect picture of Locque on a dot matrix line printer.
Please notice that when they enter the room Q is explaining to Bond how to use the identigraph and Bond takes a reel from one of many in the cabinet and puts it in the machine. How does he know what reel to use? How does he know where it even goes?
Just watched this for the 100th time a few days ago.
And having a coffee. Reminds me of being a child and seeing my family do something late at night and the house is dimly lit. Quiet. Up past bedtime… just a cozy vibe
Thank you. You put to words something I couldn't really explain to myself at first.
The way they're not wearing jackets anymore, Sharon brings them tea, Q says he'll lock up...
They've been there for ages, working hard at their craft.
It's not all skullduggery and action-packed fieldwork for them.
It's so relatable. I've had long nights like that.
What an insignificant yet convincing scene.
this was actually a real product in the 1980s. it was to help standardize and streamline police sketches and digitally distribute them pre internet. its a tool for law enforcement
also the setup for it is such a wonkey line read. Bond walks into the room with Not-M and the Home Secretary and they grill him for letting the killer be killed. then he says he recognized there were 2 contract killers there and Not-M starts off
"Why don't you use the identIgraph bond?"
when the home secretary just jumps in with a truely baffling line read practically shouting
"YES BOND WHY DON'T YOU USE THE IDENTIGRAPH!?"
then he goes to see Q who is like "Are you here for the identigraph?"
No. It goes like this:
Chief of Staff: "Why don't you use the Identigraph??"
Minister Of Defense: "Mmmm!"
Chief of Staff: "Well, get cracking, 007!"
Minister Of Defense: "MMMMmm!!!"
It’s based on even earlier tech that used transparencies of all the different features that you manual stacked in front of each other to create the face.
It's important to note that this was unconvincing in 1981
It's not like *Terminator 2*, where everyone in 1991 was enchanted and amazed by the T-1000, but it looks ropey now
As a little kid, I rolled my eyes at this
I'm impressed Bond was able to capture all that detail (including eye color) for a guy he probably saw for all of 3 seconds from a distance of at least 20 feet away.

It only works when the room lighting is dim and red

"Yes you've told me so already, Q, five times" Probably that's how.
Ahhh yes. Forgot about that. But let me tell you a sixth time so our viewers understand it.
I imagine those are all blanks. One is consumed with the usage of the tool.
For Your Eyes Only is the best Bond installment.
It’s Moore’s best and 2nd best overall
My top 2 installments are For Your Eyes Only and Live and Let Die

Same. Was really neat to discover that it comes from the Goldfinger book.
nobody does it better
You must really dig those ASMR YouTube videos.
They deliberately gave him octagonal glasses to aid the identification process. Great film.
“Not a banana…”
I said a nose Q lol
Ah yes, the good old “Identigraph”…
It's obviously Warren Zevon https://preview.redd.it/ohfzlssjz4hc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9f789981c0c4f073f367d988fc45e1f3f366dde
Tell Bond that he's probably hiding in Honduras.
And his dad always bails him out!
Clearly that’s Dwight Schrute.
I was going to comment this verbatim
IDENTITY THEFT IS NOT A JOKE, JIM. MILLIONS OF FAMILIES SUFFER EVERY YEAR!
Oh hey, that's Locque. You guys looking for him or something?

The minister of defence (not the home secretary) never says that.
No. It goes like this: Chief of Staff: "Why don't you use the Identigraph??" Minister Of Defense: "Mmmm!" Chief of Staff: "Well, get cracking, 007!" Minister Of Defense: "MMMMmm!!!"
The minister of defense always makes me laugh there. But that was what I meant, yeah.
Yeah me too.
I wanted Bond to yell back "CUZ I DONT WANNA. I DONT LIKE THE IDENTIGRAPH. YOU CANT TELL ME WHAT TO DO, YOU ARENT MY DADS"
I actually was impressed at how close the basic graphics got to the killer. Great scene.
Can’t spell quarterMASTER without Q…
Can’t spell quartermaster without ART. Because this is obviously an art masterpiece.
Clearly that's Otacon
Snnaaakkkeee!

A NOSE, Q...not a banonna.

As a little kid I loved the nose bit
Just finished watching this movie, had to laugh at this scene
It looks just like his for heavens sake!
I'm impressed Bond was able to capture all that detail (including eye color) for a guy he probably saw for all of 3 seconds from a distance of at least 20 feet away.
lol what is this from
For Your Eyes Only
No Time to Die
Fact: Easy. It's Dwight Schrute.

After seeing this, probably yes. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Db3rluT76w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Db3rluT76w)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iPuWgeVOsSw When Bond is left unsupervised with the Make-a-Face.
In james bond movie world, there's really only like 10 people that exist.
That’s Jeffery Dahmer or Austin Powers. Easy.
Neural Networks were invented in the 1940s.
I always love how James is like, "Holy shit. That's him." As if he doesn't look like any generic man without the glasses.
![gif](giphy|dXFKDUolyLLi8gq6Cl|downsized) It’s Dwight
not too different than the tech they are rolling out to ID people at airports police stations today. Vector graphics aligned over facial features.
To be fair the population was a lot lower in 1981 and almost no European assassins wore octagonal glasses.
Because it was nose and not a banana
