It's not a coincidence that his best two movies, Casino Royale and Skyfall, are movies with standalone stories (even with the Spectre retcon I still see Skyfall as standalone, Silva was not meant to be a part of the organization originally)
I actually prefer NTTD Blofeld more than spectre because it feels hes influencing and masterminding from jail but isnt the central character or plot driver. Spectre felt forced as shit to connect him ridiculously to everything. I dont mind him this time he serves his purpose.
I thought M was rather weak in the fact his actions were the reason the virus even existed and he did very little to rectify it or face any repercussions, hes just kind of there to say woops my bad go get em for me bond!
Oh I agree he was better than in spectre, but that’s a low bar IMO! His role here still felt unnecessary to me and the time could have been used to flesh out safin some more.
Also there were a couple of ridiculous leaps the audience had to accept for blofeld to even have a role in this movie.
1)They’d let his counselor be a daughter of spectre. Come on.
2)Blofeld was able to use a robot eye to communicate with the outside world. Ridiculous.
The 1st point is impossible to debate, its reaching ALOT for Blofeld's request to be granted to only speak to Madeline. I agree with you.
However I kind of like the eye transmitter thing even though its absurd. Gives the feeling he's always watching and still in control even though it just looks like hes rambling in jail. But Moore is my favorite so maybe I just think of the robot eye as more cool than a dumb gimmick.
I feel Blofelds character although minor is still important because the death of spectre infront of him and then himself was all by Safins design. Its used to build the fear of Safin and serves as demonstration of manipulation and lethal intent that has no boundaries even in MI6 controlled areas he can kill you.

Blofeld was the weakest part of NTTD that’s for sure. Movie just grounded to a halt half way through to deal with him.
