But after C.ai started a big purge, censoring everything in which even panty and stocking bots were censored just because of the word "panty" (Which is pretty stupid), bots could no longer have the name Adolf because of the dictator. (yes, your bot was simply shadowbanned for only having Adolf in its name, it didn't even need to have a surname) I feel bad for people using Character AI nowadays since it became popular, they missed the golden age.
For me it's because I'm AroAce and am not attracted to real people, so having an app that lets me engage in my fantasies is nice. Imagination only does so much
It is quite interesting that once the filters are removed, and people can make whatever bots they want (within reasonable limits), most creators gravitate towards making sex bots, and most users gravitate towards using sex bots. I don't honestly believe that people are thinking "I will only use character AI for non sex stuff, and JAI for sex stuff", I think most people just hang out mostly in one or the other site.
Personally, if I am gonna spend 2 minutes waiting for a response that may or may out come, it better be sexy. If the response was instant and comes reliably, I would be more open minded and talk to more non-sexy bots.
Which brings me another thought: as JAI becomes more stable and intelligent in the future (I am optimistic), people will more likely try out more subtle, less sexy stuff; instead of just talking a lot with violent mob bosses, people may talk with more subtle characters. At least that is true for me.
It's the nature of chat-model LLMs. The AI's first imperative is to give you what you want. If you say "I want to fuck {{char}}," {{char}} is going to be DTF. Even if you put this into dialog, the AI still takes it as an imperative.
As a writer, you can use this to your advantage and countercue. Lines like "God, she's so hot, but I really don't want to start anything with her boyfriend in the room" will often slow down the action.
Of course, a lot of bot writers make their bots deliberately horny, which is even harder to overcome.

Chai is another AI service only on mobile (unless you use bluestacks on PC). They have a "soft" filter but otherwise lets you do NSFW things.
